- Chemical combination creates a powerful incendiary explosion that can burn on watery surfaces and likewise cannot be extinguished by water
- Can be extinguished by sand or any method that deprives the fire of oxygen; i.e. an absolute vacuum
- Powerful Explosive: Nereus' Breath is an extremely potent and highly volatile incendiary chemical that ignites on all nearby surfaces, even persisting over water for prolonged periods of time. Hot enough to burn down to the bone and unextinguishable by water, Nereus' Breath is a truly heinous weapon employed by the Blackblades.
- Uncontrollable when Released: The volatile nature of the chemicals imbued within the grenade is uncontrollable once released into the open, burning wildly and unconcerned with allegiance or righteousness. It could very well burn the handlers just as well as it could burn those it was intended for.
Discerned from ancient sources, Nereus' Breath is a powerful explosive that burns until the chemical substance is burned up and cannot be quenched by water. Using a combination of Baradium, Naphtha, Sulfur, Calcium Oxide, and Calcium Phosphide, the substance compressed within the grenade is powerful enough to destroy anything in the radius of the detonation. The explosion itself flings burning green flames in every direction, coating almost every surface and burning through flesh within seconds.
The Emperor of the Sith helped design the material by pouring over various scrolls recovered from an ancient cache uncovered on the moon of Hora, Tafos. By piecing together several different references to the substance in other recovered literature, the Emperor's Court Alchemists were able to replicate the chemical combination commonly referred to as Hellynic Fire.
Augmented with several more modern chemicals, the explosive potential of Nereus' Breath was amplified to excessive destructive levels. Wishing to covet this new technology, the Emperor gifted it only to his personal army; the Blackblade Guard.
