Based on the QV-3 disruptor technology and expanding upon ion technology, the Nerys-type disruptor beam creates a sustained beam much like a particle beam. But, rather than fire traditional particles, it fires a singular [SIZE=10pt]verdant hued[/SIZE] plasma beam. The plasma beam upon reaching its target is able to disrupt most shield technologies. When fired against a hull the plasma was known to create scorch marks and disrupt onboard electrical systems.
The Nerys makes use of the enhanced catalytic conversion that all blasters and disruptors go through to convert the plasma. Equipped with Aurora Industries’ [SIZE=10pt]sianium[/SIZE] power generator in combination with uprated [SIZE=10pt]galven[/SIZE] coils, the sianium power generator is a critical component of the principle energy inducer which is used to create the primary energy source.
The beam’s effectiveness is comparable to a three turbolasers, however; rather than have a direct impact on the hull[SIZE=10pt],the[/SIZE] disruptor beam’s goal is to disrupt enemy shields. The ability to disrupt shields comes from heated ions within the plasma’s beam. In this case a standard deflector shield comprised of particle and ray components could become vulnerable after a few hits from the beam.
Equipped with heuristic data processing this enables the weapons crew to learn from an engagement more effectively. By knowing when shots hit, miss and how much damage the weapon dealt during a battle. Coupled with internal tracking and targeting sensors crews can better gauge the weapon’s effective range and favored targets.
Strengths:
Disruption: The Nerys excels at disrupting most shield technologies rather than trying to bring them down or by-passing them outright.
Splash: The target not only receives the intended damage from a hit by the Nerys, but it also receives splash damage. Much in the same way a high-explosive kinetic round would create splash damage, the Nerys too creates such damage via the plasma end of the plasma disruptor.
Firing Arc: A wide firing arc allows the Nerys to strike, track and target opponents from a variety of angles.
Counters: The Nerys may be countered by an ion shield, and/or an anti-ion mesh. Additionally, molecular and retribution shields were able to withstand the Nerys to a fair degree, with molecular being perhaps most effective of all shielding types.
Range: Intended for long range combat, the Nerys becomes less effective the closer the target is to the vessel/platform.
Crystal: Reliant on [SIZE=10pt]siaber[/SIZE] crystal technology, the Nerys is prone to overheating which may cause a broken siaber crystal which then turn would have catastrophic results.
Size Matters: Less effective on targets smaller than a hundred meters - while able to hit targets that are above a hundred and one meters the weapon has a better chance of hitting the larger the target is.
