Well, the thing is, I just joined SWRP, and I wanted to let my character age at the rate of my participation. This new event coming out just seems to be a sudden change for my character, but I don't want to be a spoil sport by not aging him...

Aging your character is your choice. It's not forced at all.

For instance, some of my characters have played out an arc which is longer than the 'site canon' and is now more like 15 years.

It's all personal choice. As Tef said in his blog, we only look askance when people come by with thousands of years of age. That's usually quite silly, especially if a writer has several like that.
