The look on Gress’ face suggested something, mischief? Curiosity? A conversation for another time.

Alright then. I showed you mine, you show me yours..

As they landed at the base, Gress smiled. "Alright then."

Landing on Fort Derik'Hur, it was clear that the GADF was still as active as ever. The base buzzed with activity, the small city that was the fort having men parading around in full kit, some of which were alien, and seemed to salute Gress as they passed. Gress however, led them further. Out of the immediate base, and towards the surrounding forests. The base was massive, and they passed several other officers as Gress led them into a massive clearing, where a walker depot stood, away from the base as to make room for the massive behemoths. Gress however, was only interested in one. A hulking beast that towered over the others, standing at least 20 stories up. Gress just smiled, walking up to a Dug who was working on one of it's massive feet, easily big enough to crush a starfighter under it, probably several.

"Frag, how's the work going?" Gress asked the Dug casually.

The Dug paused, smiling and adjusting what looked to be a translation device on his neck. "Good going Boss! I had to power wash the feet this morning to get to the internals. Turns out it was just a loose sprocket that needed some TLC. Who's your friend?"

"Admiral Angellus, of the SJC, soon to be GADF." Gress smiled, nudging Liram Angellus lightly. "This is our head mechanic Specialist Frag Duhan, Admiral. I don't do ranks 'round here. Everyone is family on the Cerberus."

Landing on the campus of the Fort, Liram was already impressed. He did not hide it either as he looked and upwards at the hulking beast that was no doubt “The Cerebrus”. Whistling in awe, he simply remarked. That’s a big’un.

Liram was still admiring his surroundings when he was nudged by Gress and explained how they did things around here. He could appreciate it as his command staff was made up of officers and pilots he had flown with. Offering a handshake, Liram simply said…

My friends call me “Liram.”.

"Nice to Meet'cha." The Dug offered a hand-foot. "I take it the Boss is showin' ya the big boys?"

"That's the plan." Gress laughed, gesturing up to the behemoth. "We got everything you could need in a walker like this." He pointed to the massive guns on the front, a turret that admiral would be very familiar with. "The mad bastard who designed her took a heavy turbolaser design off a star defender and strapped it to our chin. Those babies are designed to take out city blocks." He pointed then to the twin ball turrets on the belly of the beast. "Those are our anti-infantry guns. Sprays anti-material rounds out, rated to knock mandos out of the sky if need be." He then slapped the side of the massive leg, "And these bad boys, they're designed to crush other walkers through pure weight. The Cerberus weighs in around, what 250 tons?"

"Around that. I know we had to built them at a star-port before bringing them down to orbit."

I have a “Marine carrier” design that has been getting dusty. She can act in fleet operations and can land, bringing cargo and gear down to a planet. You think you could make use of her?

"Oh you ain't seen the half of it yet. Frag, call up to the bridge and have 'em throw some ropes down." Gress smiled to his mechanic, before looking to Liram. "Hope you practiced your ascending. Only way onto the bridge is by rope. Or hovercraft, but that's less fun."

A few second later, a massive rope was swung down the side of the walker, and Gress started climbing up it barehanded.

Laughing with an accepting nod, Liram looked at the rope and then as Gress began to ascend.

Sounds like some serious fun. Pulling his command jacket off and putting it on a nearby bench, Liram spat into each hand and then looked up before gripping the toe line. One hand over the other, the Admiral ascended cleanly. He DID attempt to use only his arms, keeping his legs extended outward, but… well… he’s not in THAT go
od shape. He made it halfway before using all available limbs

Fun.

Once they got up, Liram was met with six automatic blaster cannons on mounts sticking out the side of what was a display port that ran the length of the Walker, allowing a whole platoon of troops to fire at the enemy from within the raised walls of the Walker. “We got the training load out right now. Usually we got a few grenade launchers mixed in too. Come on, Lemme show you my office.”

He led them not towards the front, but rather into the center of the beast, a control bridge covered in grease, sweat, and bits of rust, sat at in the belly of the beast. Five gunner’s chairs were spread out across the room, and a sixth chair sat for the driver, with a stick for a gun of his own. Finally, a seventh chair, in the center of the room, watched a main monitor that seemed to wrap 360 around the chair. “Welcome to Casa Del Cerberus. The brain of the beast.”

Right now, it was empty. But it was clear it was well lived.

I’ve said it before and will say it again, ‘Sensible piece of machinery.” Stepping around the cockpit, Liram nodded several times as he looked at each chair and station. This clearly was not his area of expertise but the Admiral liked what he saw. Standing next to the command chair he smirked.

"Oh, you wanna see the baby purr? Alright, I'll drive."

Gress climbed into the driver's seat, and flicked a few switches. "We got 6 power generators for the various systems throughout the ship. One for the ion cannon, 4 for the turbolasers, one for the engine, one for the shields. Aaaaaand..." One more flick of the switch, and the whole beast roared to life, both metaphorically, and literally, the sound of the engines filling the cabin, before slowly settling to a low hum, as Gress slowly moved the driver's stick forward, the front legs shifting forward as the Cerburus took its first step, the thud of it's step rocking the ground below. Gress picked up a small intercom, calling down. "Frag, we're going for a walk. No need to be alarmed, just showing this flyboy around the base in style."

"Best ya buckle up bud, I got plenty more to show ya." The Davronion smirked, shooting the admiral a look to the commander's seat. "Take my spot, it's the best view in the house."

Game on. Normally ending his little saying with “yakhead” was not an option this time as it might come off as insulting to his host and he did not want to be physically thrown out of this thing. The ride was loud, but that was to be expected, it was fun.

Smooth ride. I like it.

Then his comm-link buzzed. Go for Angellus.

"Sir, the Senate office for military transfers contacted us. The paperwork has gone through." Hi second in command commented.

That was fast... Alright thanks. Keep things buttoned up, I'll be back soon.

They walked through the massive forest, eventually spotting a walker formation alongside tanks.

"There they are. My boys. The Hellstompers."

The walkers seemed huge in comparison to other GA walkers. A heavy beam cannon off to the side of each of them, and a pair of mortars on the back with rocket pods waiting for any sort of CAS to strike them. "There's the Thundercats. They're my boys' bread and butter. I take it you've messed with beam turrets before, yeah?"

Alongside them, tanks rolled through, also sporting a similar beam cannon, twin on each. The turret seemed to be sporting a rounded hull, ready to bounce off any rounds that hit it.

Liram was awestruck when he finally reached the end of the forest and saw what was being pointed out.

Game… on… YAKHEAD! The shout out was not an expletive, or pejorative directed at Gress, and if he watched the Admiral eyeing what he was looking at, the Devarnian would definitely see this. He wasn't a ground pounder, but he knew what he liked, and these were well made. His eyes were particularly captivated by the balance of the walkers, it was wild to think those cannons did not knock these bi-peds on their hind quarters,

It’s been my experience that the “small and fast” can often be a great distraction for a “hitter”. Or even vice versa… the old “tank and spank” strategy. This works even in starfighters and capital ships.

Bring it, big man. Liram always welcomed a challenge and this looked to be every part of one.

Then Gress was talking about some of the designs and new equipment he had coming a long, that was no doubt a hint that he really wanted to have some kind of fun. So Wargames were the key, he was right though, it was important to get his Marines up to date.

To tell the truth, I only really paid attention to those who fell under my umbrella and they focused on “rapid response” rather than “open warfare.” So everything is more about mobility, but still pack a punch. We may not be able to “tank” like others, but we can definitely “spank”. His turn to smirk now
