I assume he assumes that as a minor faction it could rebel against an OS dominion, go major etc.
Though the way I read it I think it's just for story purposes and the Republic is planning to dominion their way back into the core or something?

Rebellion Rules

4. If a Minor Faction is declared victor of the Rebellion, that Minor Faction is promoted to Major and is given a new influence cloud over the targeted hex*.
*The minor faction may choose to decline, which would revert the entire hex to neutral.

am not too sure you can have someone from GR fleeting with ships from a minor faction.
The Directorate does it all the time. In character we are not part of the Republic or the SSC or the GA but we support all light side factions with fleet support if needed. But we are members of the factions also just not In Character. As far as using ships from a minor faction goes it all depends on the production level of the ship. If it is not limited to a certain factions it can be used by anyone. If you do not want your ships used by others make them closed market and limited production to your faction. If they are open market anyone can use them.

SO if the ships are open market or not limited to a certain group or faction, yes a major faction writer can use them

[member="Matier"] In the rules you quoted, it clearly indicates large fleets and armies.

So a Minor Faction, and indeed anyone, can have fleets and armies. They just can't be subjectively large in comparison to a Major Faction, who will always have a bigger fleet/army.

I was mentioned, so I joined to read my tags, and I saw something I could clarify.

Also a suggestion, since I saw mention that literal mergers between factions were impossible, if by some miracle the Republic and this minor faction hoping to become Major, wanted to merge with the Republic. They could begin the slow process of diplomatic "Invasions" which slowly re-incorporate old worlds into the Republic. So essentially, Dominions, except they are protected in a "queue" by an allied faction. If that makes sense.

Food for thought!

No one has stated this was a minor faction going major...

A rebellion which wins is still a minor faction going major (*if it chooses to), so I'm not sure exactly what you mean.

But I digress, I'm not part of either of these factions, but I was brought up so I jumped in.

The * was in small print in the original post

I would presume writers of Major factions would try and work with those who are involved with the systems in question that are being dominion rather than just "HARR WEZ A BIG FACTION AND GONNA KICK YOUR SAND CASTLE AND DO WHAT WE WANT" kinda style.

This is simply a minor faction acting as a subfaction due to the IN CHARACTER situation, which in all honesty is frakking headache because a good portion of us OOC as writers were fairly invested in our worlds and the OOC map changes has generated this situation where our worlds are suddenly vulnerable to the big ole powers.

[member="Fatty"] just summed this up beautifully.

The Character involved were leadders in some way shape of form of their respective systems. A single system has a kark ton of resources. However major factions can call upon the resources of whole sectors and such to bear.

Diplomatic Invasions would be the fastest way, I think, to recover lost ground for your influence cloud. Rebellions would be faster but it takes too much effort to get it set up and there's a lot of risk involved.

I'll look into some ideas for cloudbreak recovery, its an interesting dilemma. The problem is, if cloudbreaks didn't exist, you octopus factions would be practically immortal.

[member="Elaine Thul"] Yes, that's exactly what it's for. If the FSC wins a rebellion, then it can go major to hold the territory. Ideally, it would merge with the GR to reclaim those lost planets. If it became major, I'd put up Caius as FO if he was up to it.

The confusion I've always had over fleet sizes and force allotments between Major and Minor factions is that when it comes down to combat, force sizes are usually agreed upon anyways, removing any need for limitations.
Additionally, with the new combat rules in place that focus solely on story, does it even matter how big our fleets are, regardless of our standing as Minor or Major?
