So many others beat me to it. The Jedi Order are part of the Galactic Republic as far as Factions go - so similar to how you'd expect. The Republic is run by a triumvirate rather than one person who could be corrupted.
The Order serve the Republic and six months ago lost quite a few worlds and were facing some rocky times. But since then we've gone from strength to strength. If you have any specific questions you can ask here and someone will help you out - or you can PM me if you'd prefer.
