New X-wing?

Since we've lost Incom, the makers of our X-wings, I thought I'd get working on a new version of it (faction-owned) so that we could continue to fly X-wings without Incom's backing.

So I was wondering what people would like to see in it or would people would like it to look like.

The new trilogy has a slightly different X-wing, which I think might help differentiate our new X-wing from the old ones.

I was thinking of also maybe incorporating general-purpose warhead launchers into the new design to give us more flexibility in our warhead choices.

Thoughts anyone?

Are we able to do this? I'm only asking because I had made a similar suggestion via Skype when Incom first left and was told that the company has the rights to the x-wing, therefore we couldn't have another company create them for the Republic.

I thought it silly, since the Republic always had X-wings in the canon universe, but it was something I was told. Perhaps we can investigate this further?

Well, if it is based on real world patenting, the question would be what parts of the X-Wing are proprietary?

I'd assume that the basic shape of it isn't as that would be a hard thing to enforce. They might have possession on a patent for the wings shifting. I don't know how things like this work around here. If we can't make any sort of X-Wing, we could make a T-Wing and have it's outline be the X-Wing with each pair of wings together...

I have been thinking about this as well, we need a new fighter to replace what we lost with Incom. Getting the pilots involved is a goods thing also, lets see what they want in a fighter. Perhaps even where the IC stuff is concerned it can be a joint project between Lucerne and Nubia.

I like the warhead launcher. It gives flexibility for the situation. Even allowing different members if a squadron to loadout differently if needed.

As far as Chaos precedent, there's someone that makes a Y-wing out there, it's not Koensayr (Y-wing example), Now, it's important to note that the judge mentions some sort of ramifications, but I'm not sure what they were.

I'm glad you've asked the question in the factory discussion thread.

I need to get my Skype account working again so I can talk to you guys.

I think we could make the argument that this just looks a lot like the X-wing, even if it officially isn't known as an "X-wing" (and unofficially, everyone could refer to it as one). We can talk about copyrights and patents, but the basic design is several thousands of years old now in Chaos; if we're basing our laws off of star wars laws, the basic design probably can't be copyrighted, though the name could still well be.

I guess we'll wait on the factory discussion thread before we go on with this.
