NFU's Unite!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpvUqzPixAU
Now that I got your attention. Lets talk about the limited numbers of NFUs on this site and how we can change that. I know its a personal preference to be NFU but how can we as writers make it more attractive for folks to write the Smuggler with out a glow rod, the bounty hunter that is not a space wizard or the soldier the relies on his own gut and not the force?

I have always written a NFU, mostly a mandalorian and now I have broaden my horizons to the underworld of smuggling and freelancing as a space cowboy.

Pros to writing NFU:

  • No rank system for level of badassary. The freedom is glorious
  • Very Unique on a site flooded with FUs
  • The Challenge is also rewarding

You guys have the ability to out-match the FU's if you can plan ahead far enough, now I may play FU's only and I may be an outsider to you guys but hear me out, you guys *should* be the majority in the universe, and that may be the case if NPCs are counted, the only things you guys are counting though are PCs, you guys are the many, and the forcers are the few, use numbers against strength and eventually numbers win out, just be smart with your numbers.

Four of my six characters are NFUs. I find that giving characters special functions that stand out makes them more enjoyable for me to play even if said functions do not render them gods on the battlefield:
  • Charzon Loulan, running a shipyard building mostly non-combat ships
  • Dunames Lopez, running a spaceline (the only stand-alone PC-run spaceline in the game that isn't simply a front for smuggling, Star Tours)
  • Jessica Med-Beq, a woman that designs crazy gadgets and, at the same time, seems more comfortable wielding high-recoil weapons (personally I find that she has the most slippery slopes)
  • Klesta, a Jawa senator that is more concerned about the economic aspects of the Republic
My FUs play roles that are pretty uncommon (and not only by FU standards):
  • Ugohr who is either a minesweeper commander (using tanks to do his minesweeping) or a realtor (lately he has been focusing almost entirely on his realtor activities), both of which have no other known active characters doing either role
  • Cathul who is a therapist (and also a Witch with a crazy set of spells) - only one extra active character in the system doing it: [member="Deja Bloom"]

3/5 initial posts are FU characters here. Practice what you preach. Be the change you want to see.

I fully support any and all NFUs. Its my opinion that we are infinitely more interesting than the lolwizards. NFUs make things feel more ...real.

Hmmm. I have a couple of NFU ideas, but the thing is, they have connections to factions / associations I do not see strong representation in. Like, for example, I have two characters that fulfill the role of a mercenary. Sure, we have Mandos abound, but I notice a lot are very FU as well. Plus, most factions appear to prefer using their own soldiers over a hired gun. The other one I have is more of a criminal element, a gangster (as in someone who legitimately is apart of organized crime, not some slang term). However, I do not see many criminals on here. We need more legit, NFU criminals. Drug dealers. Hitmen. Mafiosos.

NFU's i find are some of the more entertaining reads. Most of them are more story orientated then my "schwartz is bigger than yours" kind of stories/action threads.

[member="4ND-R0"] And yes i have seen the steady increase of Beskar clad force wizards/witches. I also appreciate [member="Ra Vizsla"] view on such and how he is handling it.

I used to be part of a site where it was decided there were too many Force users, and other members (including me) were forced to have NFU characters, so that NFUs became the majority of the membership.

Sad, sad times.

[member="Wolf"] not talking about forcing others. Thats the wrong way of doing it. Just how to make it more attractive. I mean star wars is way more then just Space magic but for some reason everyone wants to be able to move star destroyers with the power of their minds.

Oh yeah, I know you weren't talking about forcing people. It was just one of my vaguely relevant anecdotes. :p

Playing NFUs is fun, just as playing FUs is fun.
