Faction [NJO] Knighthood Ceremony — Ko Vuto

Knighthood

Valery looked around the room and smiled welcomingly despite the lingering grim thoughts. This could very well be one of the last Knightings at the Coruscant Temple for the foreseeable future. The Dark Empire was simply too close and she wasn't going to risk bringing this many Jedi together for each and every knighting. But even the Dark Empire needed to lick its wound after a battle, so the Jedi still had some time to wrap things up before relocating the young. What better way to let the Galaxy know there was hope by knighting one of the most promising young Jedi?

Ko Vuto Ko Vuto happened to be a Jedi Padawan Valery had interacted with herself on occasion. He had always come across as kind and respectful. Eager to learn and gifted with skills not easy to control. It had never stopped him from doing his utmost to live up to expectations and work hard as a true Jedi.

Now, surrounded by friends and fellow Jedi, it was time for him to take the next step.

...
With the gathering of Jedi watching her every move, Valery stepped closer to raise her violet blade high above the ceremony, before carefully lowering the blade down to hover just above Ko's left shoulder. "By the right of the council.."

Slowly, she re-positioned the blade to rest just above his head. "By the will of the Force.."

Finally, Valery lowered the blade again, hovering it over Ko's right shoulder. "I dub thee..."

"Knight of the New Jedi Order."

A final salute of her blade followed before she disengaged it and returned the weapon to her belt. Her eyes were still focused on Ko for a moment longer, but with his new rank official, it was time for others to recognize the Order's new Jedi Knight. Valery turned, her eyes shifting to Jonyna Si Jonyna Si before she dipped her head. If his Master wished to add to the ceremony before his friends congratulated him, now was the time.

This was his moment.

Jonyna had been absent all morning before the ceremony. One might guess it was emotions overwhelming her, but in reality, she was preparing. Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble had told her to seperate herself from her culture, but Jonyna couldn't describe to him how impossible that was to ask.

To her, her culture was just as much a part of her as her fur was.

But...

This moment she knew would come. Ever since their Blood Hunt, and subsequent adoption, Jonyna knew that Ko was soon to become a Knight. Soon to become a jedi of his own. She needed to prepare. A visit to Stomme, a trip to the salon, and an hour in the bathroom, staring at a mirror.

To her, the traditions of her people were just as much a part of this as she could ask. Her appearance would mean everything.

When she finally did arrive for the ceremony, one might mistake her for a "real" jedi. At least, one who wasn't so unorthodox as Jonyna.

<Ko.> She spoke in her native tongue, smiling with a look only a mother of choice could. <You spent so long trying to reach this point. I've seen it, the effort you put into this.> She smiled, switching back to Basic for the sake of others. "Ko, you are a Knight now. And while that may be true, you'll always be my son, padawan or not. I'll always be there to teach you when you need it, and you'll always have a home on Cathar, and on my ship."

She couldn't help it. She ran over and hugged the new Knight, letting the tears flow.

This was his day. She didn't want to distract by becoming a blubbering mess, but...

Can you really blame a mother?

Ko still couldn’t really believe it. For one reason or another he imagined that he would feel more assured in rising the ranks or just growing up in general. As if he could mark a specific moment in his life from childhood to adulthood. But as he was learning still it was a bit more blurry. More so something he would only be able perceived in hindsight.

Keeping track of his trials hadn’t really been a conscious effort on his part. Yet he had completed all five at one point or another. Just without even knowing it at the time. Now he found himself before Valery Noble. A woman he looked up to a great deal and still felt grateful for her aid back on Nubia. Back when he still struggled just to shove someone a few feet a simple Force Push.

Once it was completed and official Ko stood up and gave a low and respectful bow to the Sword of The Jedi. With his missing eyes he could sense those around him. Given recent events and what was on the horizon Ko was surprised over who had shown up for this. Taking precious time out of their days to be there for a simple farm boy like himself.

The cathari words drew his attention back to his master. Jonyna. His sight through the Force has now gotten clear enough to see the detail of her wardrobe. He honestly didn’t think that she even had any traditional jedi robes. Still though his vision lacked the bright and pure colors of her robes. Did she really wanna wear that just for him? Hearing her encouraging words he almost got a reply out before he was enveloped into a loving embrace where he gently hugged her back. She was crying too? The act made his own emotions well up as well. Soon a bit of excess moisture leaked from his protective goggles as well.

He couldn’t really say anything at the moment. He just felt so thankful. To Jonyna, to Valery, to everyone…

Off to the side, amongst the other initiates within the Beetle Clan, stood Jin'lian, watching in awe. The sounds of blades clashing in ceremony cast their colorful glows. They remembered Ko from the times the Kel'dor read tales to the initiates before he moved off to the agriculture corps. It felt like ages ago. Their tail stood tall, curved at the end like a question mark, a note of the happy emotion of such a joyous occasion. Admittedly, this was the first Knighting event Jin had come to witness, but Ko was worth breaking away from the clinic to congratulate and cheer.

Watching the blade come down, Jin moved up onto the tips of their toes in suspense. They watched it move three times, from left, above, then right. It was also funny and quite endearing to see Ko's master's outwardly emotional behavior. The two seemed an odd pair, but the Force knew what it was doing, clearly. Like a normal being, Jin gave applause to the story man, resting back down on their feet.

Courscant was a planet which he had avoided.

Yet he couldn't avoid it, not on a special day. He wasn't entirely sure if he was invited or not, but once he had heard the whisperings that the ceremony was going ahead there was no single way he was going to miss it. He was a Jedi, he was fairly certain that meant that he would be allowed access into the temple and into the ceremony itself.

He remembered his own Knighting ceremony, and it flicked through his mind as he walked through the Jedi Temple. He remembered the words being said by Coren Starchaser Coren Starchaser and he remembered how proud he had felt that he had been named a Jedi Knight of the Jedi Order. He rememered the celebration afterwards and how amazing it had felt to achieve something.

It was a special day in the life of a Jedi, and none deserved it more than Ko Vuto Ko Vuto .

Caden had met the Jedi years prior, when he was a Padawan with no real master or direction. Caden had instantly taken a liking to him and had almost felt protective of him. Ko was one of the few Jedi that Caden regretted losing contact with. He would have loved to have monitor the progress of the young Kel Dor, see how he was doing and offer what learning he could.

Instead, he got to see him be Knighted. That was special in of itself. Caden managed to get into the room just as Valery said the words. He was one of the first to clap for the new Jedi Knight, a moment of joy and of hope in an otherwise galaxy overcome by darkness and on the brink of all out war between the Galactic Alliance and the Dark Empire.

Walking over, he clapped the young Jedi Ko Vuto Ko Vuto on the back and offered him a smile. He cast his eyes towards Jonyna Si Jonyna Si with the same smile. "You must be the Jedi responsible for getting this young lad to where he should be" he offered a low chuckle. "Always knew you had some potential kid" he said again, addressing the knew Jedi Knight once again. "Congratulations, Knight Vuto"

He didn't monopolise the new Jedi, choosing to take his leave afterwards so that others could have the chance to congratulate the young Jedi. He was weirdly proud of the young Jedi, and interested to see how he would continue to develop in the upcoming conflict that loomed over the happy day like an unhappy shadow, or a bad smell that wouldn't go away.

Ko Vuto Ko Vuto Jonyna Si Jonyna Si Jin'lian Jin'lian Caden Evesa Caden Evesa

In the crowd of Jedi that encircled Ko and Jonyna, Cora looked on with a fond smile. Not just fond - proud.

The tender moment between master and student softened her expression further.

The Kel'dor had been a steady, level presence in both her life and the Jedi Order. He'd offered his own congratulations at her Knighting, and had even bid her farewell with a parting gift when she'd left the Order for her marriage. Upon her return, the two had bonded over a mutual appreciation for gardening.

Some of her favorite memories could be found in working the soil with Ko. And, of course, the time he’d accidentally hotboxed their entire wing of the Padawan dorms.

Cora waited until the ceremony had completed, not wanting to interrupt the interaction between Ko, Jonyna, and those who’d come to offer their well wishes. When the appropriate time came, she approached with a warm smile.

"An achievement well earned, Knight Vuto. You have my sincere congratulations."

A nod to Ko, then Jonyna. Her head tilted slightly, lingering over the cathar's choice in clothing before nodding once more in approval. Even though she was nothing but pleased, decorum kept her outward joy somewhat muted.

"You've done an admirable job in guiding him, Knight Si. I look forward to seeing where you both go next.”

in the footsteps of a stranger

The occasion of a knighting was always special, to the individual being honored as well as the witnesses, but this one represented even more. Hope wasn't a big enough concept to capture it in entirety. Efret thought it both wonderful and unfair that the timing of Ko's ceremony had selected him unconsciously as the last to be so publicly knighted here for an indefinite amount of time.

She had first seen Ko a few days ago. The master thought was he had had to say at the recent conference had put the entire discussion in a shocking context, but one that needed to be understood. For that reason, she still carried his words with her.

When she could without interjecting herself into another interaction, she would likewise approach the new knight and his former master. "Congratulations to both of you," she said. Nirrah, on her left shoulder, chirped in agreement. "I meant to tell you, Knight Vuto, how much I appreciated hearing your thoughts the other day at the all-Jedi meeting."

She smiled at Ko. "When this war is over and research can resume, I would love to welcome you onto an archeological expedition team."

Kahlil stood with the other members of the council; in the background. He knew Ko, but not well enough to truly be part of the celebration at hand. But he did lock eyes with Jonyna Si Jonyna Si and gave her a simple nod. He'd never wanted her to exclude herself from her culture, but find a way to blend who she was as a Jedi with who she was as a Cathar.

If this moment was any indication, she'd done just that.

He was on his way out to go see Connel when Caltin had learned of a Knighting ceremony. So with a quick turn on his heel, the big man made his way there. He wasn’t sure who was being Knighted as the name escaped his memory, but these were always important to be a part of, the young Knight had a huge responsibility in these first few moments. They would show the Order who they are, and while Caltin did not doubt the young Jedi’s intentions, there was still the need to be there.

When he entered the hall, and saw the huge Kel Dor, Caltin immediately recognized him. They had only interacted (and quickly) once or twice, but he knew who the Jedi was.

dc-injustice-2-mobile-black-adam-reveal-trailer-dc-izfr7cxbg_82bm.2560.png
While he did not have much to say, the big man exchanged acknowledgments and short pleasantries with those who came up to him. He was waiting for his turn. When that came up, he offered a respectful bow.

So the question is, what are you going to do with what you have? I'm not talking about how much you have. But what you will do with it, what you will become. Perhaps you will find archaeology, fixed wing flight, become a theologian, healer, diplomat, or even lead the war front. You might have money, you might end up with it. You might have or learn patience. You might or have kindness. Even love. Whatever it is, whatever your gift is, what are you going to do with what you have? You are in an amazing point in your journey right now, do not live in the past, but carry it in you, use it to shape your future, to shape the future of a Padawan the Force might see fit to send your way.

No matter what, if “they” were to build a Jedi from the ground up, it would look a lot like you. Congratulations and May the Force be with you.
With that, he simply backstepped into the crowd.

Eku1KfW.png

"Speech!" went Makko from the back of the crowd.

As everyone else delivered quiet and solemn congratulations, he made the call and then looked around in shock as if someone else had said it.

Perhaps it was the pressure that everyone seemed to be feeling on a day of celebration. It manifested in a moment of silliness from the young Jedi Knight.

Someone was probably going to have a quiet word before the end of the gathering.

Well. Shan never saw this coming. At least, not anytime soon. Though he hadn't really thought about much of Ko's recent activities. Ko was one of the closest padawans in the temple to Shan. Though he supposed that wasn't true anymore. Ko was a Knight now. It was a strange thought for Shan. The Padawan group he had gotten close to were all slowly but steadily advancing through the ranks. Cora had been one, then there was Ko. Who was going to be next? The Mirialan had no clue himself.

There was a part of Shan that wanted to tease Ko. Say like offering to help him carry his Atrisan comic books out of the dorm but this was a special moment for his friend. He wouldn't dare embarrass Ko in a moment like this. The teasing could come later. Now was time for all of the official business and the like as Shan stood towards the back of the crowd, glancing over at the call for a speech from nearby. Clearing his throat for a moment before shouting out as well.

"Come on! It's not every day your favourite Kel Dor gets knighted! Give a speech!" Was it out of character for Shan to yell out like that? Maybe. But he was trying to be less passive in celebrations. Normally he'd just stand by and be quiet but he was going to make himself known!...At least for a minute, before regretting his life choices as he'd imagine everyone staring at him now for yelling out.

Ryana smiled as ko got knighted she was proud of him as she walked up close her happiness for ko was obvious he was one of the first friends she made here and only wanted to best for every jedi but especially ko. As she walked up and gave ko a hug as ko would also feel a hug around his leg as pip gave him a hug aswell "I tried to leave him behind but you know how well that works" she said letting him go as pip basically looked up at ko wanting attention before letting go as he matched the lethans gaze. "Congrats ko you deserved this" she said with a smile before she stepped back to let the others offer their congrats to ko aswell.

The sudden pat on his back had Ko ‘glanced’ back to see who it was. Not instantly recognizing Caden Evesa Caden Evesa . He hadn’t seen the Knight since losing his eyes. Hearing their voice and better focusing his vision through the Force allowed Ko to quickly recall who was addressing him and Jonyna. It had been some time since the two had crossed paths. Naturally Ko was elated to see Caden here for his knighting. Someone who Ko somewhat saw as a distant older sibling to himself. “Absolutely, I know I wouldn’t be here today if not for Master Si, Thanks Caden.”

Underneath Ko’s ever present antiox mask, he was beaming. Well at least what others on Dorin would consider ‘beaming’ or ‘grinning’. Considering that his mouth was on a completely different axis it would be hard to emote even without his mask and goggles on. Soon enough his fellow green thumb and friend, Cora, approached him as well. He was gonna need to get used to the title and responsibility of knighthood too. ‘Knight Vuto’ was still such a foreign idea to him. “You think so? I really appreciate that Cora.” In a deeper recess of his mind he felt a bit of sorrow over the shadow closing in on the capital world. If they were to leave this temple for any stretch of time, who would tend to the garden they cultivated together? Perhaps it was a silly and inconsequential concern. But after losing a home like this, those little nuggets of grief could really pile up.

Another approached to congratulate him and Jonyna, Efret Farr Efret Farr . Someone that Ko had only encountered once before during the sizable meeting prior. Ko had not realized that his words then had been appreciated so much. Especially by someone who he didn’t really know very well. “Oh, I'm glad to hear that Master Farr. To be honest, part of me had felt like I was sort of preaching to the choir if you get what I mean.” He took in her offer to assist her when things may finally blow over. And something similar to the peace that he grew up in and appreciated could be achieved once more. “I’d really appreciate that, thank you Master Farr.”

Soon once another opening was made Ko was approached by another he was less familiar with. Master Vanagor, a Jedi Ko didn’t really know all that much about, other than that they were seasoned Jedi. The newly minted Dorin knight bowed back to him and listened to what they had to say. It came off as a bit cryptic at first. But Ko quickly discerned the message behind what Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor was expressing. The last thing they said really stuck with Ko however. He didn’t quite know who “they” were. But being seen in such a way felt very reassuring to him. Being an individual that strived to live up to more classic and traditional jedi standards and values. Seemingly as soon as the man had approached, they backed away.

Suddenly Ko found himself hugged once more, both around his torso and his leg(?) It was the familiar lethan twi’lek and of course Pip. With one arm he hugged her back and with the other gave Pip some gentle head scratches with his claws. “No worries Ryana, he doesn’t seem to be getting into any troubles. And thank you too.”

Over everything Ko heard someone speak out among the mirage of light that surrounded him. ( Makko Vyres Makko Vyres ) Despite being able to perceive things in every direction through The Force, the number of fellow Jedi that surrounded him actually made it harder to actually discern who was who. But another had spoken up as well. Given the familiarity of their presence Ko could tell who it was. Shan, the considerably compassionate and altruistic Mirialan. However, they wanted a speech from him? Even though the spotlight was already on Ko he felt like that really put a lot more pressure on him.

“Oh a speech? Well uh… public speaking was never really a skill I believed I was very talented in but okay.” He wasn’t really sure what he could talk about. But maybe he should just speak from the heart. “Well firstly I want to express my gratitude once more, and thank you all for coming. After all… these are rather dire times. I would’ve completely understood if you all couldn’t have been here now. It really means a lot. I can't understate that. We all know that the future is uncertain and likely perilous for us all. Both within this temple and beyond.” Ko didn’t just mean the Jedi, but everyone. “Also, the achievement of my knighthood isn’t just about me. As shown by many of you who have also congratulated my mentor, Jonyna Si Jonyna Si . But I also want to extend my thanks to everyone who helped me to be here now. Master Valery Noble Valery Noble for her timely aid on Nubia. Knight Evsa, who looked out for me before I’d gotten legitimate mentorship. And Council Member Jasper Kai'el Jasper Kai'el whose critical instructions have saved my life, and empathy help greatly after the loss of my eyes. I also want to thank my contemporary padawans too. To you Shan Pavond Shan Pavond for always being a reminder that retribution has its time and place. Lily Decoria Lily Decoria who with the threat of sore knees, had pushed me to strive for excellence in my physical capabilities. Also Braze Braze and Loomi Loomi , who both taught me the value of responsibility.” There was still so much he felt like he could say. He he really knew he shouldn’t yap on forever. “I know there’s so many more than I’m thankful to have on my journey. But this little speech of mine is rather impromptu so I hope you forgive me for not being too comprehensive.” Ko added with a soft chuckle under his mask. “But from the bottom of my heart, thank you… everyone. Your support really means the world to a simple farm boy like myself.” Even now as a full fledge knight, Ko never forget his worldly background here in the NJO.

Also Braze and Loomi , who both taught me the value of responsibility.

Loomi was lucky to have shown up when Ko was asked to speak a little on his experience. To hear her own name brought up as one of importance, it really made her heart swell with pride to think that her friendship with the Kel Dor was just as important to him as it was to her. She really did look up to Ko, and it was so great to see him earn the rank that he had worked so hard to achieve. The Godoan would wade her way through the crowd to give her friend a big hug.

"I'll miss seeing you in classes," she noted. "You better teach a few."

The hug was very tight, and showed no signs of letting up.

It was surprising to hear that Ko was being knighted. Not because he did not deserve the chance. But it was just that Lily had not even thought about her and the fellow Padawans around her would be becoming Jedi Knights for years yet to come. Perhaps it was because she was still fairly new to the Jedi Order and still a long way from becoming a Jedi Knight herself, and perhaps it was because she wanted to keep hanging around her friends in classes and retain the fun, chilled environment that they had currently. Before the daunting responsibilities that a Knight held came at them.

However, she knew that Ko was more than deserving of this promotion. He was someone who worked hard and pushed himself to become better, Lily had trained with Ko plenty in sparring and she enjoyed helping him grow to be more proficient with a Lightsaber. She had kept to the back of the crowd, watching the Knighting event happen, her eyes were observing and attempting to think about how it would be for her to be there some day. Lily didn't feel like it would be anything major, she was a bit nervous with large crowds and she wasn't sure who would be interested in celebrating with her. It was also hard to picture herself standing as a Knight.

There was so much more than she needed to learn and develop as a Jedi.

Once the ceremony had finished, Lily clapped loudly for Ko, really pleased for the latest Jedi Knight and hopeful that he will continue to prosper as a Jedi. She wasn't sure whether to approach, or remain back and allow others to phrase the praise and joy she felt better than she could.

As Ko was making his speech, Jonyna was busy wiping her tears. She couldn't be more proud of her adopted son, and his climb to this point on the mountain. She was higher up, but she knew he would reach there eventually too. This was a big step for both of them.

But she knew her own traditions weren't over. She had one more thing to do today, in this ceremony for the boy she had taken in. It might not be a tradition of the jedi, but it was one of her family. One she had gone through herself.

"Ko." Jonyna spoke, looking to the boy. "There is one more thing I'd like to do with you as your Master, before you go out as a Knight, making your own adventures. As I said, you're always welcome back on the Reaper, but...I know you'll want a ship of your own someday soon, and so I want to do one more thing for you as my padawan."

Jonyna looked to the other masters of the order here. While she wasn't one herself, she did know one that wasn't currently present that she hoped the others would honor. Her eyes lingered on Kahlil Noble Kahlil Noble once more, a small frown forming at him. No, she wouldn't let that little thing spoil this. She wanted to do this for Ko, from one generation of Si to another.

Looking around finally at all the others there. "woah," gasped Jin'lian, there was so many in here, so many still and lots of words being exchanged. A small chuckle could be heard from them and a few other initiates at the Knight and Padawan shout for a speech. And what a speech it was, one that people could expect from the humble Kel'dor. Though the tall Echani lady to his right looked a bit hesitant maybe or unsure, he could not tell because Jin was no mind reader. Side stepping several times over to Lily Decoria Lily Decoria , Jin smiled a little lightly tapping the woman's arm. "Are you okay miss?" the initiate asked. "You are not feeling unwell are you?"

Braze was busy Playing God recently and had been out and about trying to find something to populate the amphibious aquarium setup he made to house the little bonsai tree he'd been cultivating as a surprise gift for his friend Ko Vuto Ko Vuto .

He'd been visiting a fair where they had little exotic creatures all about in various tanks that one could purchase or win and take home. This was perfect, and Braze decidedly needed to win one. And after much time of doing so, he ended up with a pair of what could only be described as oversized tadpoles. Braze had brought them to the massive tank and set them in it nice and neatly, and they seemed to swim about happily enough with one another. One was spotted, and the other was a pale-colored, almost translucent white. He thought they looked nice together. Next came the arduous task of moving the entire setup now that he knew it worked. He wasn't really sure where a good place to put it was and decided that the main living area in Jonyna's ship would have to suffice for the time being. He was sure to bring along his 'magic growth packet' that was just really a bottle of flake food with vitamins for the tadpoles as he went to clean himself up and any subsequent messes he made whilst levitating such a massive tank about... Thankfully, he had done this earlier in the day and had been present for the ceremony. He was rather quiet as he watched the proceedings, waiting for the perfect time to approach Ko to tell him about his 'surprise', Graduation gift.

Not long after giving his little improvised speech, Ko felt yet another sudden embrace. This time it was from Loomi. It was pretty tight as well. If not for some simple bacta patches under his robes he’d probably be wincing in pain from earlier conflicts. Not just from Loomi, but from everyone here who made some sort of contact with the young Kel Dor.

Ko chuckled some behind his mask as his Godoan friend expressed how she’ll miss studying with him. “Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll be able to pass on some insight or knowledge. Maybe sooner than we might expect.” He wanted to express a bit of optimism. Despite the threat that loomed over coruscant, nothing was truly set in stone. Ko simply gave Loomi a few gentle pats on her head since she didn’t seem to wanna let go. Being mindful of her antennas.

Then he heard Jonyna address him. He took in what his master had to say. She spoke about wanting to do one last thing for him as her student. He wasn’t sure exactly what she was trying to express yet. But to him it sounded almost like she wanted to gift him a ship of his own. Although that likely wasn’t what she had in mind. So he would simply see what it was that Jonyna wanted to do.

Um9wLtZ.png

Jonyna drew her saber, closing her eyes as she brought it up to her face. <Mother, show my son your face.>

Suddenly, a woman, clad in armor that looked almost ancient to those around, appeared in front of Ko Vuto Ko Vuto , stripes shining a bright blue, and eyes looking like pools of ocean water.

The woman looked to Ko, offering a soft smile.
"My daughter has told me much about you, Ko of Dorin. Now that you are no longer a padawan of hers, perhaps I could teach you a thing or two."
