Status lights slowly winked green in the corner of his heads up display, and after a few more seconds of sweeping his sectors with his MM100 raised Lieutenant Knight toggled his own green light and lowered his rifle slightly into a resting posture. He had been dimly aware that the freelancer [member="Zee"] had taken up position behind him, and a small irrational part of him was grateful for the additional cover as the towering frame of Commander Letham's Jaguar power armor thumped steadily towards him. All around them, marines were pouring out of their drop pods. Alpha and Bravo squads quickly converged on Isaac's beacon, Alpha setting up around them while Bravo moved farther out to establish a wider perimeter, just in case the calm all around them proved to be temporary.
"The last transmission we received was from MPD Lima 178 in this area. That was over nine hours ago."
Isaac listened to the transmission from Lima 178, dread increasing with every word. He could hear the terror in the recording's voice, could almost experience the world falling apart right in front of its owner's eyes. Quelling his body's instinctive emotional response, he tried to listen instead for more details concerning what fate had befallen the Jade Rabbit, or who these unknown hostiles were. But either that information had gotten lost in the static or, more likely, the transmitter had been too busy or too scared to provide any valuable intel. Neither option bode well for the prospects of this search and rescue mission.
"A lot can happen in nine hours," Knight said at last when the transmission had ended, noticing as well the tracks leading towards the mountains, "But my men are some of the best trackers in the Commonwealth. We'll find your lost bird, Commander."
