  • Twelve Dropships
Special Features:
Cortosis Reactor - Much like the mass produced Watts-class, and the semi-unique Cira-class frigates, the Noble-class Star Defender is equipped with a sophisticated cortosis reactor designed by the people from Valen. This gives the ship incredible power for its various systems.

Maneuverability: 14
Speed Rating: 14
Hyperdrive Class:
  • Primary - Class 2
  • Secondary - Class 12
Strengths:
Terrible, Terrible Damage - The Noble-class possesses firepower considerably greater than its size would otherwise dictate.

Incredible Durability - As a stable of Corellian ship design, the Noble-class possesses significant durability, allowing it to engage in combat operations even with numerous compromised decks.

Weaknesses:
Weapon Placements - While the Noble-class has powerful weapons, its total emplacements are surprisingly few. Thus, any weapons fire that breaches the Star Defender's defenses run the risk of severely and suddenly reducing the ship's combat effectiveness.

Alignment - Much of the Noble-class' firepower lies with the Javelin cannons. As they are spinal in nature, the ship must turn bodily to line the cannons up to their targets. Thus any ship the cannons cannot hit has a significant combat advantage over the Noble-class, as compared to other heavy capital ships the Noble-class was designed to counter.

Description:
Design on the Noble-class began shortly after the seizing of Baktoid assets. Until then, the only contact the Protectorate had been given with advanced reactors had been the singular reactor from Roche and the two reactors given to them from the people of Valen. With such critical shortages of advanced reactors, the decision was made to simply use them rather than risk damage to the precious pieces of tech. While they were certainly put to good use, the Protectorate had no answer to the Baktoid-developed Watts-class.

With the seizure of Baktoid assets, the Protectorate got ahold of all the Watts-classes it could want. The ship design had been forcibly decommissioned by the Republic following Druckenwell's disaster and the revelation that Baktoid's CEO had utilized a programmed backdoor code. The product then reverted to Baktoid for ownership, and was subsequently taken by the Protectorate.

Now that the supply problem had been eliminated, Corellian Engineering set out to test its own limits with the technology. The result was the Noble-class Star Defender. Named after the aspiration of goodness, the Noble-class was designed to be superior in every regard to the Watts-class.

The primary weapon array for the Noble-class is its numerous Javelin cannons. Armed with two heavy LH-71 Javelin cannons and six heavy LH-39 Mini-Javelin cannons, the ship is capable of brutally tearing through shields to inflict damage directly to a ship's hull rather than wait for the shields to weaken sufficiently. This is the cornerstone to the ship's design of being a destroyer, a capital ship killer. Along with these cannons, the ship possesses five octuple turbolaser batteries to function as the main battery while the hypervelocity cannons are recharging.

Secondary weapons include twenty-five dual heavy ion cannons, thirty cluster missile pods, twenty heavy energy torpedo projectors, and forty light energy torpedo projectors. This powerful and varied weapon suite gives the Noble-class superior capital ship firepower as compared to the Watts and gives it a multitude of options to consider when engaging an enemy ship.

For starfighters, the Noble-class has sixty-five flak cannons and eighty quad laser cannons to ward off all but the most dedicated starfighter assaults.

The ship's reactor is carefully monitored and regulated to ensure that no spikes threaten the integrity of the ship. In the event that the ship's reactor begins to go critical, it can be jettisoned and a secondary reactor can take over to propel the ship to safety. However, this secondary reactor contains -no- connection to the weapons systems and thus cannot be used to power weapons. Its fuel supply is incredibly limited, leaving it as a last resort option to attempt and throw the ship back into friendly space.

A small hanger was eventually added to the underside of the ship, between the forward mandibles. While not large enough to allow the ship to carry any escort craft, it was large enough for the ship to carry several dropships to facilitate transport to other ships, stations, or the surface.

Development Thread:
  • Termination - Seizing of Baktoid assets, including Watts-class
  • Watt is in a Name - Reverse-engineering the Watts-class to develop the Noble-class for Protectorate and Republic use (technically ongoing, but the bulk of the tech work has been done.)
  • A Little Less Conversation - Discussion with Rave on the needed protocol to regulate advanced reactors
  • Cira-class Frigate - Development of the Cira-class was done as a proof-of-concept to develop a ship just like this occurred nearly a year ago, at the conclusion of the Valen conflict.
  • From The Ashes A Fire Shall Be Woken - Development of Protectorate shipbuilding facilities in an undisclosed system.
Intent: To develop a new state-of-the-art ship with recent developments and replace the decommissioned Watts-class.

Under review.

So far a quick run at maths puts this at:
130 batteries (80)
90 "warhead points" (unless cluster pods are x4) (60)
145 point defences (75)

It currently doesn't feel like this has had enough work compared to previous examples like the Dark-blade class to warrant this at minor production.

I'm going to need a little time to look at previous examples, I'll get back to you asap.

I've discussed this internally with the factory team. Even accounting for the Watts class, which was a reward for a competition where the republic put in ~400 posts, this is going to need more development for such a powerful vessel at minor production.

WITHOUT DEV THREADS
  • Reduce to Semi-unque(6)
WITH DEV THREADS
  • Bring the total dev thread post count up to 100
SUGGESTIONS

I'm sorry, but that hardly seems fair. Countless ships have been updated or remade without being asked for more huge development. Why is this any different? The entire Watts line was pushed out of service. I've already put more work into a redesign of it than most other ship updates/redesigns ever got.

As it is, the Watts-class is listed as being Mass Produced and I've already voluntarily brought it down to Minor for no other reason than internal consistency with the One Sith's version of the ship.

I talked with [member="Kiskla Grayson"] about doing something to get the Watts-class back on the field for the Republic. This isn't me grabbing at straws or doing something on a whim.

Alright, so here is the problem with this ship. It's true that the Republic has the right to special event tech after the Valen event.

The problem with this submission though? It's the fact that this ship ain't only for the Republic, but can also be used by the Omega Protectorate. Looking at your development threads you have roughly 30 dev posts across the board, some of 'em are sizeable, others are a bit smaller.

The Watts-class had 300 posts behind it and was distinctly made for the Republic.

This has 330 posts made, but is spread out between two factions.

The Dark Blade on the other hand had 200 posts and was also exclusive towards one faction.

Putting this all together I'd say it's reasonable to ask for more development, if you want the Protectorate to use this event tech too.

WITHOUT ADDITIONAL DEV POSTS
  • Reduce to Limited (And if we suddenly see a lot of these monsters popping up, it's gonna get pulled back)
OR
  • Make the affiliation strictly for the Republic and it can stay as minor.

WITH DEV THREADS
  • Bring the total dev thread post count up to 100

You have done around 58 posts of new development, on top of the 300 posts that had already been done for it. I was aiming for around 100, but looking through your threads most of your posts are -substantial-

Most people would go for the 100, doing 3-4 liners and calling it a day. You did less posts, but put more effort and depth into that, I feel that has to be rewarded.

So I am approving this, with the understanding that the 'minor' production is spread out over two factions. It's not two minor productions for two factions, which is an important distinction.

That said.

Have fun with it and make sure it doesn't get abused, otherwise it will get pulled faster th-- alright I ain't making that joke here.
