Not one homogeneous people…

Corvus smiled. “Broadly speaking yes. Emotions are a natural part of living. Jedi are not immune to feeling emotions, so this line is not to say that emotion does not exist but that it ought to be set aside. Emotions must be understood first, and it is a young Jedi's duty to explore her feelings. Unless a Jedi can confront her thoughts and feelings, she will never achieve peace. Emotions, then, are not to be overcome or denied, but rather understood and dealt with.”

"So what of the next line, 'There is no ignorance, there is knowledge?'”

"A Jedi must understand the world that is surrounding her. That ignorance does not exist is, of course, impossible. Ignorance is a part of life but it must not be feared. Our Archives contains possibly the single largest source of information in the galaxy, but knowledge can be taken from the most unusual places."

"This line is what gives the Jedi her open mind and ability to accept what other beings would tend to see as unacceptable. In other words, a Jedi must use not only her rational mind but also her intuitive mind in order to ascertain the truth of a situation. And never forget the difference between knowledge and wisdom."

"So, the next line, there is no passion, there is serenity? Take your time. If you need to consult a datapad, do so."

Corvus smiled. "This line is in many ways a repetition of the first. But this refers more directly to situations of extremes in which a Jedi might be tempted to react strongly. That a Jedi must draw her weapon only in defense is an expression of this tenet. While emotions and intuition must be understood and utilized in a Jedi's daily life, she must never act rashly. Passionate use of power leads to the Dark-side. A Jedi must always act with a calm hand and an even temper."

"So, the following line, There is no chaos, there is harmony?"

[member="Lenia Odinson"]

"This statement reflects the Jedi Order. Whereas many see the universe as a chaotic and disconnected place, we realise that all things are interconnected and, more importantly, interdependent."

"While others see sorrow and tragedy in the workings of the universe, through the Force, we are able to interpret and understand even the most painful of life's events. Without this, the first line of the Jedi Code would be meaningless."

"Every event has a purpose. Minor inconveniences such as failure, disappointment, and disagreement are also inevitable and should be taken in our stride. Jedi do not deny the fact that tragic and terrible things happen; they merely point out that tragedy is simply another part of life."

"So, would you like to consider there is no death, there is the Force?"

This time Corvus did not fill in the space. "Just say whatever you think. There is no shame in a wrong answer. But you may surprise yourself in your ability to understand the line."

Corvus nodded. "I think a session on Ossus learning the Force would be an ideal start for you. And I'd encourage you to mix with fellow Padawans before starting any formal training. Learn from them about life as a Jedi. It'll do you the world of good."
