I'm planning to do what I call a half-NaNo. My writing group did one back in February and that's how I finished my first book. This time around I should get the majority of my second book done. I can't dedicate the time necessary for a full NaNoWriMo experience because of my obligations here, but I can certainly do a half one.

I took a stab at NaNo a couple years back, couldn't find traction, but this time around I'm doing it -- sorta. Between various IRL pressures and influences, I took the last week or so to start a short novel just to see if I could do it again, and I'm 20,000 words in. (My last novel project ended a year and a half ago after 160,000 execrable words.) I'm going to attempt to use the end of November as my deadline for the first draft.

160,000 words is a lot... My first book was a bit over 70,000.

Still, always good to try your hand at things. I just want to make good progress on book 2 in my series.

This time around I'm aiming for 80,000, which is sort of industry standard for the subgenre in question. So, basically, when the first comes around, I'll have about 50,000 words left to cover over the month of November. Doesn't that fit together all tidylike.

I don't know if any of the rest of y'all write for fun or to try and get it published. But either way y'all should check out scribophile.com for online critique to improve on what you already have and maybe even get some inspiration.

I'm attempting the 50K via RP posting. The way my life is right now... doing something new simply isn't feasible. I can't brain it, at the moment. But RP, which is comfortable and familiar? YES, that I can do.
