As the mornings light broke through the window, Aerin's eyes opened finally. Her head turned to find Mikhail gone, which she had expected. She sat up slowly still a little weak from the nights activities and loss of blood. She stood and walked to the water storage and drank heartily her body wanting it to replenish that which had been lost. She stood there for a moment supported by the bench going over the events of the nights, not just the love making. He had not really lied to her, he did not really tell her anything however, she was disappointed that he was predictable in the behaviour, she thought him stronger then that. Not that she wanted anything from him.
Although he had told her one untruth, he did not stop to look. But no matter, she knew .. for all his lies he is only really telling them to one, to himself. A smile formed on her face, Aerin is completely different to most on Midvinter, different to most women, her perspective entirely different, and if he thinking she would crumble in a heap or get angry then he had the wrong girl. But she had something to thank him for, and as it would turn out far more. He had shown her life .. she began to live and with his bite, more given to her through it, as life is now more precious to her, not just hers. The threat of the loss of it drove that home. In his mind, she might be consider a trophy a novelity of sorts, something different maybe, but she knew she had remained truth to herself, she had always wanted to give her virtue to one she loved as she had done so. No school girl crush or in love with love but a deeper thing then that and even she could not understand how it had happened .. but it did. Even if she never saw him again it would remain.
She pushed herself away from the bench and went to the other room to wash her own blood from her body. A designed place, with warm water supplied by hot springs below the house she filled the pitcher and bathed. Oils for the blue mountain flowers scented her body and she dressed into her leather clothes. As she entered back into the common room, a quick look to the hearth told her it was in need for wood .. a chuckle escaped her lips at the sight of the venison. A metaphor for the evening events, yet deep inside the meat still a little goodness was to be found.
To the door for wood and on opening she discovered more. A surprise crossed her face at the body at her doorstep, she looked over it and then around the village. Then she remembered he was hunting a man and he had placed it her, like a feline bring home a catch of a rodent and presenting it as a gift. She puzzled at this for a moment, why would he do that .. it is on purpose. She walked around the body looking closely at it, her calculating and discerning mind working hard. She noticed the note and read it, only a smart gibe scrawled over it and she disregarded it. Her interest now in the corpse, she knelt down and closely looked over the man's face, bald head, strange markings over his face like she had never seen before, an air of evil about him even in death. Her eyes went to the village again, Mikhail had save them from something more horrific then imagination could conjure, whether on purpose she could not tell .. a good act? even if he also was not aware of it? She looked back to the body, the markings the attire everything about the man she put to her memory, something Offworld that one day she would face again and Mikhail had provided her with the knowledge of it's existence, yet another gift.
She reached out and threw back the robe that concealed him, it was hard to ascertain how Mikhail had killed him but then something caught her eye. Underneath the man the sun light hit a something metallic .. she reached for and took it up. For all purposes it looked like the hilt of a sword but without a blade. She turned it over and around noticing strange buttons on the side. It was sheer dumb luck that she was holding the hilt away from her .. her finger pressed a button and the saber blade sprang to life. A hissing red glowing blade. Her eyes widened and it took her strength to not throw the thing away. She began to move the it, the hum protecting through the air yet she continued. Then his words came back to her, ones he spoke in the forest when they met. A lightsaber, she did not know what he meant then .. but now. A Saber!
Aerin looked back through the door her eyes fell on her sword still resting by the wall, then back .. she lowered the red blade toward the wooden railing of her home and it cut like a hot knife through butter. "For the love of the Gods!", she said out loud, and she knew her long blade is now obsolete.
"What an extraordinary man you are Mikhail", she said in a soft whisper and smiled. He had given her much more oh so much more that night .. that day .. and he probably did not even realised it, for if he did.. he had done something .. good.
The End!
