- Designed to take advantage of the unguided nature of dumb-fire munitions. This is done by re-tasking matter-manipulative technologies such as tractor beams and repulsorlifts to gently alter the trajectories of high speed projectile ordinances before they reach their target.
- This software requires multiple units working in concert to work effectively. A lone ship, droid, or facility cannot push or pull an incoming projectile off course by itself. This can only be done by a third party with this software to push or pull a projectile on to a new trajectory, by exerting force on the object tangential to its path of motion.
- Makes itself difficult to predict by enemy gunnery. This is done by randomly fluctuating the intensity of the tractor beams/repulsorlifts to make it difficult for enemy targeting to compensate for the disruption this system causes to their firing solutions. Furthermore, it will also sweep the "disruption field" up and down the intended trajectory line of ordinance to further increase unpredictability.
- Optionally integrates with T.E.C.M.I.S. to create spoof tractor beams and repulsorlift projections that are intended to further confuse enemy firing solutions. Additionally, integrating these two softwares together can also help prevent enemies from using their own TECMIS algorithms to generate compensating firing solutions to counter OTAROCS. However, TECMIS is not essential for this software to function by itself.
- Designed to have the ability to inflict friendly fire on the enemy. This is rare, but is accomplishable when an enemy target is close to the intended trajectory of the ordnance fired. In this scenario, in theory, all it takes is a little push or a tiny tug to redirect a projectile that was intended to damage an ally target towards an enemy target.
- Updates are regularly available on the holonet. This way, the software can remain relevant and keep pace with modernizing military technologies.
- The user interface is highly intuitive and adaptable. This is done so that the software can be easily downloaded and used quickly in combat. The UI has settings that can be quickly adjusted for different race physiologies or computer operating systems.
- Preserves Defenses - this software gives a tactician a defensive option that can help save on shield, hull, or armour erosion by causing projectiles to miss entirely.
- Reduces effective range - this countermeasure software is most effective against long-range dumb-fire ordnance. Therefore, it can be used as a mechanism to pressure long range enemies into coming closer.
- Potent Against Solid State projectiles - because this system retasks repulsorlifts and tractor beams as a deflection countermeasure, it is typically most effective against solid state projectiles.
- TECMIS compatible - this software can be made more effective using some of the features in TECMIS, providing that the requirements for TECMIS are met. Implementing TECMIS also prevents enemies from using the same software to counter OTAROCS.
- User Friendly - this software is highly accessible to the open market, and the user interface is intuitively adaptable to multiple operating systems and species' physiologies.
- Fluid Dynamics - fluid state projectiles such as plasma weapons and turbolasers are significantly less affected by this countermeasure system than solid state weapons like slugthrowers and mass acceleration guns. This is because the fluidity of the substance fired seems to absorb the kinetic force of repulsorlifts and tractor beams more efficiently than solid state projectiles. In this case, more distance is required for fluid state projectiles than would typically be needed to affect solid state weapons to be effective.
- Shorter Range = Less Margins - while the main image shows an exaggerated example of the system altering the course of a projectile, the reality is that this system only changes the direction by a few degrees at best. Even less if it's a fluid-based energy weapon. The closer the attacking weapon is fired, the less effective this countermeasure can be.
- TECMIS - TECMIS is fully equipped to counteract and predict the effects of OTAROCS software. if OTAROCS is not integrated with TECMIS, then an enemy utilizing their own TECMIS software can generate firing solutions that compensate for this countermeasure system. (TECMIS is available on the open market)
- Self Correcting Ordnance - this system only inflicts a brief and minor alteration to enemy projectile trajectories. If the projectile has any kind of guidance system and the ability to course correct mid-flight (like a missile or magnetically guided shell), then it simply doesn't work.
- Selfless exchange - pushing, or pulling on ordnance does not change the trajectory of a projectile if it is heading straight at you. Force must be applied to the inertia of an incoming object from a tangential direction in order to change the trajectory. This protection can only be provided by a nearby ally with OTAROCS software.
For many decades, Dorneans sought refuge amongst the Elysium people, and later the Nomadic People's Coalition, whilst offering their expertise as navy traditionalists. As the aforementioned nations fell, the Dornean homeworld began to reemerge as a safe, and free planet once more. The Dorneans that were once refugees, or descendants of refugees, decided that it was time to return home and help rebuild. As they did so, they took back many military technologies with them and began to build on their successes.
One such technology was the TECMIS weapons software. They took the framework from this concept and adapted the programming method to retask tractor beams and repulsorlifts as countermeasures. This became a wildly popular concept, since it was somewhat effective in certain situations, and it utilized simple technologies that almost all spacefaring ships already implemented. Even civilian ships were known to equip tractor beams and repulsorlifts. This made the software highly popular and viable for the open market to be used in commercial applications as well. The Dorneans were quick to offer this software on the open market to quickly generate revenue as they endeavoured to rebuild their homeworld and their once formidable navy.
