The breeze off the sea deepened as twilight settled across the beach, the horizon now a soft burnished line between dusk and shadow. Sable stood alone at the shoreline of Alakatha, where the ancient, sea-polished stones met the sand like the broken teeth of a long-dead leviathan. The ocean's rhythm pulsed steadily, as though the world itself still remembered how to breathe, even when she sometimes forgot.

Her cloak fluttered with the wind, a thin barrier between her and the creeping chill. The serenity of the place was deceptive—soft waves, golden skies, quiet gull cries—it was the kind of peace most beings craved. But Sable wasn't most beings. To her, it was a hollow lullaby, one that failed to quiet the thoughts moving beneath the surface of her mind.

She stared out at the water, eyes half-lidded but restless. There was no comfort in the view, no grounding in the salt air. Her presence on this beach wasn't happenstance—it never was. Every path she took had meaning, every detour some calculated move… at least, it used to feel that way.

Now it all felt like she was following a thread she couldn't see, one woven long before she ever stepped foot on this world.

She let her gaze drift down to the sand beneath her boots. Damp, coarse, clinging. She crouched, idly dragging her fingers through it, forming a small spiral, then flattening it again. The simplicity of the act only made the weight in her chest press harder.

The ruin still lingered in her thoughts.

Nar Shaddaa lingered in her thoughts.

That place had spoken in a way nothing else had—not through words, not even the Force, but through sensation. An oppressive presence, veiled and ancient, like something waiting just beneath stone and time. And Vendra... Vendra had felt it too, even if she couldn't name it. The woman's bravado had been a mask, but the unease was real.

Whatever was buried there, it wasn't done speaking.

Sable clenched her jaw. The Holocron had been shattered, but that didn't mean the knowledge was lost. Some truths were carved into the bones of places. Echoes. Fragments. She'd learned to listen to them. She had to.

She stood again, arms falling back to her sides, eyes tracking a distant storm gathering on the far edge of the sea. Lightning flickered faintly in the clouds—silent at this distance, but it would arrive eventually.

"Always another storm," She said to the air, voice low and toneless.

She thought of the path ahead. The growing sense of convergence. Whispers in archives. Shadowed names resurfacing in strange places. The pieces didn't yet fit, but she was beginning to see the shape of something larger—something that reached beyond this world.

And that scared her more than she'd ever admit.

But fear never stopped her. It just sharpened her edge. She set a hand on her mask, feeling the mask pop, the air hisses as she released the seal.

She takes in the smell of the air, wincing as the sun shines down at her. The damage from a precious engagement still lingered. The burns along her eyes, the singed skin didn’t take well to the air.

She paused, and went further, stripping away the armor, going down to the body glove, wincing as she exposed her damaged form to the fresh air.

It took several rather painful moments, before she had the armor removed, and stowed away. She steadied herself, clad in swim wear, though her body was a little worse for wear.

Several burns lingered about her arms, legs, and chest. The appearance of the damage was far worse than it was as in actuality.

She turned away from the sea at last, walking slowly up the beach away from her waiting speeder. The tide crept in behind her, reclaiming the footprints she left behind. As always, Sable left no trail aside from one thing. Her mask laid buried in the sand, as the waves slowly rushed to claim it.

Normally, the beach was a place of rest for Jonyna. A reminder of her fiance, and of peaceful times.

Today though, she wasn't looking for R&R. Today, she was on the border of the GA,SO, and the new Naboo Republic for a reason.

Scouting.

Walking on the beach, the cathar eyed the approaching storm. The Force was telling her something was coming. A sign from nature that the war was far from over.

Her eyes wandered slightly, as the sense of something, or someone, off in the distance. A dark presence, but one not immediately hostile.

As she approached, she saw a scarred visage. A woman that caused her to think about an old friend.

Zash Avvadu.

A face she hadn't thought about in years now.

What could've been an approach of hostility, instead became a casual jaunt towards the scarred face.

"Hey."

Sable remained in her own world for a time, unaware of the approaching Cathar, her gaze only focused to the horizon. She let the wind blow across her face, smell the scent of salt on the sea, and the small sting that accompanied her limbs as she stood there.

She tried to mask it, pushing the rising sensation of paranoia back down. She normally wasn’t so distant from her armor. She felt naked without it, vulnerable. But she had taken comfort in seeing she was the only living thing in sight, and that no one would-

The kicking up of sand shattered that illusion. Her body tensing as she turned to face the danger head on, and froze. Her breath hitched as she locked her gaze onto the Cathar, her stance remained tense, a thin veil of calm attempted to work away at a growing knot of tension inside.

She wasn’t sure what to say at first, her eyes dancing over the woman’s form, processing, trying to think of how to handle this situation.

She settled on the unconventional approach.

"Hey," She said, her voice almost too calm.

Well, it was unconventional for her.

Her eyes flicked behind the woman briefly, then returned.

Were they alone? Had anyone else come with them?

Sable gave a quick Look behind her, half expecting another individual to be enroute to her.

Yet, they seemed to be the only two people here. Her pulse quickened, but she attempted to remain calm. "The..weather is nice."

She managed to sputtered out, as the distant boom of thunder just barely would register to the pair.

Sable slowly relaxed her posture as she stood before the stranger, trying not to appear cagey, but there was not a perfect way to really conceal how one truly was.

"Yeah, it is." Jonyna nodded. The storm in the distance, the beach and the waves. Galactic politics aside, it was...nice.

Nice to see Lygala cared not for the idle stances of the galaxy. It was moments like this that reminded her of that.

"So what are you here for?"

Sable let the breeze carry a moment of silence between them, her gaze fixed on the horizon where the waves met the sky.

"…being honest, I don’t know," She said quietly, then glanced toward Jonyna with an empty expression. "I just have felt, lost on the path of life."

She looked back ahead, straining to see onto the horizon. She winced at the salted air as it struck her nose, the burns on her face stinging ever so slightly. For a moment, she could’ve sworn everything felt still. That the world had stopped spinning. That her mind was calm. That her life was her own. It was a nice feeling and a moment, she let herself believe in it. That small sliver of her, that longed for a purpose. The part of her that believed she could do better. Knew she could do better. Wanted to be better, and yet…had she?

It made her feel warm inside. Just for a moment, to think she was her own person. That she had finally done it, left her past behind.

It was a nice thought. But a horrible lie.

The rolling of the tides broke her line of thought. and as it receded back into the sea, she let all those warm thoughts, sentimental feelings, and optimism go with it.

Her expression noticeably soured, the tension in her body returning. The smile that has been on her face for a moment, vanished, replaced by a watchful gaze. "Are you looking for something, or just passing through?"

"Just passing through. Saw a pretty face, thought I'd say hi."

Jonyna's definition of beauty was always a bit skewed. Being pansexual would do that to you, but that wasn't it. It was more than just that. She tried to see beauty in everything, from a fly on the wall, to a model on a runway.

It was the cathar in her. Having lived so intune with nature, you learn to appreciate your place in it.

And everything living alongside you.

Sable tilted her head slightly, studying Jonyna with a quiet sort of curiosity. "That so?" She murmured, a phantom of a smirk tugging at her lips.

She let the words hang between them for a beat, then exhaled softly, gaze shifting back to the waves. "I appreciate the compliment." There was no bitterness in her tone, just something wry and self-aware.

Still, she didn't brush it off entirely. Instead, she glanced back at Jonyna, eyes sharp but thoughtful. "Picked a strange place to be looking for pretty faces." She remarked, crossing her arms, letting out a sigh.

"Trust me, I've met them in stranger." She chuckled, looking out along the surf. "You look familiar. Have we met before?"

Jonyna always struggled with faces. She tried to memorize everyone, trying to keep a mental list of the people she'd helped, but her memory was nowhere near to where it once was.

Sable hummed, considering Jonyna for a moment. There was something familiar here, wasn't there?
"Jo-nyna, but yes..."

A flicker of a memory wormed its way to the surface, and Sable felt her stomach churn.

Ah, so she met her.

"Maybe," She said, voice unreadable. "Or maybe I just have one of those faces."

She shifted her weight, her gaze going back out to the ocean. "I've been a lot of places, met a lot of people. Some of them I'd rather forget. Some who'd rather forget me." A smirk flickered across her lips, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. All those potential lives she had walked away from...couldn't she just...vanish?

She had tried that-rather-Alana had tried that. And where did it get her?

She was dead.

Sable nodded in agreement at her confirmation, pushing the idea down, suffocating out of all appeal it might have held.

Tilting her head back toward Jonyna, she arched a brow. "In a galaxy full of faces, how do we keep track of which ones we know, and which ones we don't? Seems...futile, with all the people out there."

Jonyna looked to the woman with a confused look. As if they were trying to speak to them in a language she didn't understand.

"I've kept track of every face I've ever met. Every person I've ever saved. Still write birthday messages to the ones that are still alive."

To Jonyna, it was a matter of respect, and reverence. She'd been alive for so long, that...

She tried her damndest to. To keep track of it all. To keep her memory straight. Ever since coming out of the ice, it had become harder and harder to remember how it was before. To keep the history straight in her head. Was she there for the launch of Home One? Did she meet Sylvar's Ghost? It had become a blur, and she was determined to not start forgetting the people she had met since.
