One Sith vs. Galactic Republic: Invasion of Togoria (Fleeting Thread)

As we arrived in orbit above the world of Uyter, Viktor immediately began to seek communication with Republic High Command.
While we awaited the response the man stood stared at the holographic star chart. The astronavigation data had updated in a brief flicker to our present location.
I too looked upon it.

At the moment we were unware of where the Sith Navy was, in fact the reports of Mandalorian ships being sighted along the greater lantilles route were what I could tell on Viktor’s face most troubling.

For all we knew they could already have slipped by and were at Kashyyk or Thanos.
The Vice Admiral sent an encrypted message to each respective government, it was a distress call

In the meantime the larger capital ships such as the Noblesse, Archer, and Sword sat in high orbit over Uyter’s northern pole. The escorts maneuvered even further up into orbit and the formation simply began to swirl as we awaited answers.
We stood in silence for five minutes as a haze of smoke of fine tobacco filled my nostrils. Both of us simply waited.
Viktor broke the silence. Crossing those huge arms the admiral brought a hand up to stroke his chin with a “Hrmmmmmmm,” as if the thought needed a further moment to allow another puff of the cigar “There is no word from Fleet that an attack is under way, only these damnable reports, if they have already slipped by the Sith are likely making communication difficult. I can only guess their targets would be either Togoria or Kasskyk both have been assaulted by Sith before, both have fought valiantly so either one would be a perfect target to strike to instill vengeance. Especially now with how thinly we’ve held on to the territory out here it by seizing Togoria the Sith could break the Republic in two.”

I simply nodded at the strategic insight and also a little humbled at how well the man grasped the situation out here. Granted perhaps it was my own lesser experience in fleet warfare. The man had earned a higher a rank than myself with or without political connections Viktor seemed to be trying to determine a solution.

A sigh escaped my lips as the wait began to kill me.
I sipped on my tea and began to dig down into my thoughts to find once more that measure of patience I sought.

“Have the Fleet go to condition 1, all ships at action stations, and get our fighters readied to launch at a moment’s notice. I want a CAP out there circling the moon.”

“Sir the leadership of Uyter is hailing us”
“Tell them we are preparing for combat against the Sith”
“Yes Sir”
“Now then Mr. Senator what do you suggest we do?” Viktor turned to me as I inhaled the exhaled puff of another drag on the cigar. I coughed a little before speaking.
“It would be prudent to contact GRIM and see if they’ve received any further updates as to the situation. Perhaps we could flank them or cut them off outside the system. If they went of Thanos the defense fleet there would likely be holding them back. What did you say of Admiral Reshmar in our earlier discussion?”
“Ah yes, his strategy along with Admiral Gir Quee was to keep our forces constantly moving but be able to respond rapidly in overwhelming force in the event of an attack. A sound strategy but it means the net contracts and relaxs. Hard to keep the enemy from finding a way through it.”

I tapped my thigh and looked to the communications officer “Signal GRIM get me a line to the Minister of Intelligence” Then returned my gaze to the star map once more.
Somewhere out there a battle was raging…
With that I made my way to a private comms room.

Vice Admiral Kurganova once more was informed that Uyter's government was hailing them.
This time he didn't brush them off and was soon informed that Kashyyyk was fine.
Ruling out the wookiee system mean't that the enemy was either at Thanos or possible at Lantilles.

"You heard the Admiral!." Malos stated, the One Sith Captain cracking his knuckles and preparing himself for the fight. The Pantoran Captain felt a thrill he hadn't felt in a long time;this was going to be a good fight, and Malos would gladly follow the veteran Fleet Admiral to death.

As soon as they dropped out of hyperspace, and before Admiral Tregessar had stated anything, fighters from Malos' own Wyrlook, and other smaller capital ships deployed their starfighters. Like [member="Cyrus Tregessar"]'s fleet, it featured Allegiants, alongside the hybridization of FE starfighters, and Delta Wings. The One Sith Captain also had his fleet in defensive formation, his fleet already having targeting solutions on the squadron that was lead by the veteran captain, [member="Reen Lorgon"], but Malos also was experienced in naval warfare, and the Pantoran Admiral was ready to have his 1v1.

"Have the starfighters maintain remain in a defensive screen. If the enemy deploys his starfighers, I want our starships to be able to combat their starfighters. Order the Razers to be aware of starfighters as well. Have our other ships open fire at our enemy's squadron." Malos ordered.

Quickly, the officers had the Wyyrlok fire it's heavy long range turbolasers/ion canons open fire at a Republic SteadFast Star Cruiser, a targeting solution already being established. Flak guns, and other defensive measures were already ready to combat any starfighters the enemy deployed, but from Malos' calculations, his squadrons of starfighters outnumbered the enemies. The Wyyrlok also fired 10 energy torpedoes at the Republic SteadFast Cruiser.

"Continue to keep me informed via usage of our Shadow corvettes. Order the commander of each ship to stay vigilant" Malos added. Before he had stated anything, 4boneshatters had targeted their long range weaponry on another steadfast cruiser, and 3 more on another steadfast cruiser. The Vanguard Heavy Cruiser fired 5 Heavy Long Range Dual Mass Driver Canons, as well as 8 Heavy Long Range Massdriver Canons at the Rendilli Cruiser. All the ships in Malos' fleet had the weapons, shields, targeting, life support, etc at maximum power, something that was probably the same for Malos' enemy.

"Sir, what about the mine layers."

"We have nothing to worry about from them; they are out of our range, and cannot affect us."

"Report all deployments, and developments to Admiral [member="Cyrus Tregessar"]." the Captain ordered.

Draco moved around the bridge, waiting. "Have the Cabur scouts drop pulse mass mines protecting the rear of the formation. I know we will see it coming, but I'd rather not have enemy reinforcements dropping out right behind us. Put them at Extended Range along known routes into the system from republic worlds. I know we don't have a plethora of them." The fleet had eighty of said mines already moving around in the system through the Cabur squadrons, with a single rearming available for each of the two squadrons.

Blue lights faded as the ships went full stealth and ran off to complete their mission, dropping Pulse Mass interdiction mines along hyperspace routes into the system that dropped to the rear of the formation, far off in space, at extended range. Once activated, the mines were capable of pulling ships out of hyperspace just fine on their own.

"Have our cargo bays emptied. Get a good spread of Empion Mines and Seismic mines placed at those locations. I know it won't be many, but I feel like getting the first blood today." The mines, using vigilante programming could be dropped and were self dispersing to pre-programmed formations and coordinates, though by no means a cloud of mines, there were a number of them, roughly a dozen of each at each of the locations. If nothing else they would be effective against small escorts and scout fighters, sent in system. And the Mandalorians would know they were swooping in on them given the Warden's capabilities.

The trap was set, now all the cat needed was a mouse to come and play.

It quickly became apparent to me that something was amidst, the Aide to the Minister of Intelligence’s office informed me that Minister Organa was apparently here in the Taldot Sector.
While I had no suspicion of her whatsoever I was concerned that Sith Assassins would once again strike at our leadership.
Granted I was also out but surrounded by a moderate amount of firepower.
I then was able to get the reports on enemy movement.
A massive Sith fleet had apparently smashed its way through into the Taldot sector.
The last report suggested that Thanos was their target.
More troublesome was the report of Mandalorians, we had a few brief images of their vessels by freighter captains who were passing through Gizer. Nothing to big but size was something to never be so concerned with. Mandalorian warships were particularly well equipped for combat and could sustain far more damage. However a single loss of a ship was expensive to rebuild and find a smaller clan or kin to man it.

Returning to Fleet Ops I found Vice Admiral Kurganova giving orders to make ready for battle.
“Ah Senator what word from GRIM?”
I handed the Admiral my datapad and his attitude shifted.
He tossed it back to me and with heavy footsteps marched over to the star chart and proceeded to order the fleet to make ready for hyper space.

Soon we jumped once more.
The Admiral had a specific set of coordinates to arrive at
I continued to watch with great care, worried at to what awaited us on the other side.

"Commander, there is a message coming through for you on the private channel." The communications officer nodded, she could monitor it, track it, or the like, but a messaging coming in on the Commander's private channel, she wasn't foolish enough to listen in without his permission.

"Thank you, encrypt it and keep it quiet." Draco checked the message, it was text, from Faith. Odd time, but for Draco it was a welcomed surprise to hear from her, to know she was safe.

The Mandalorian looked around the bridge. Faith was on Togoria, there were a number of ways to get to the planet from where he was, and the Pulse Mass Mines would slow anyone trying to outflank him.

"All ahead full. We are establishing control over orbit. Overdrives, get us there now."

The officers on the bridge glanced around at each other, the Mandalorians there looking at the solemn figure of their Commander. Finally, the older mandalorian fleet officer spoke up. "You heard him. All ahead full, establish orbital control. Hecr's on the flanks, Assault wing spread out in the fore. Defense wing and support wings pulling up the rear. Maintain formation, Warden's continue early warning procedure." Rach's experience gave him a measure of control in the situation, his support reassuring the warriors they weren't just acting on instinct and rash emotion.

The fleet began pressing forward towards the planet quickly, driving the formation towards the planet rapidly, leaving interdiction mines behind for whoever was unlucky enough to be pulled out of hyperspace there.

"Sir, all Steadfast units and Rendili are taking fire!" Reen waited for a moment, thinking of his options. "Have all Steadfast ships pull back before they return fire. Tell Rendili to do the same. Inform Unity One and Two to open fire on that Vanguard Heavy Cruiser. The rest of us will focus fire on their Capital ship. Tell all fighter squadrons to perform defensive sweeps of our area, any ships located are to be engaged."

As ordered, both Unity-class Assault Ships opened fire on the Vanguard Heavy Cruiser, volleys of ion shots being followed by a flurry of turbolaser fire. Meanwhile, the rest of the fleet begun their assault on the capital ship, with The Saviour launching heavy warheads at the ship. Fighter squadrons began moving throughout the republic side of the battlefield, searching for any hidden units.

Draco's comlink buzzed with a message alert as he held it in his hands. He read the message, and sighed. It seems that while she wasn't necessarily in direct danger, she was on the planet. And with the battle going on above one part of the planet, it wasn't exactly the safest planet to leave without an escort. It also seemed like he would be getting in some sort of trouble as well. He needed to come up with some way to get her and get out without the One Sith being upset by him leaving their flank unprotected, and without the Republic realizing he was aiding their enemies.

Faith's head hit the desk then she got up looking over to Ana who was slowly backing up, preparing to flee the room she knew the signs of a fit coming on.

Faith began talking to Ana and to no one "Of course...let's go shoot at the Republic why not....it's only credits...its not like he needs more of them...give them back the retainer.....YOU'RE SHOOTING AT ME!!" She picked up a pillow and began hitting the desk over and over with it until the seams finally gave way and poof of dust filled the room.

We would soon be in the Thanos system.
The comms officer waved to me as I looked over the reports with Vice Admiral Kurganova.
“Senator, I have a message from the Minister of Intelligence for you”
My eyes looked up and met with Viktor who raised an eyebrow at me.
“Patch it through to my datapad”

Curiosity abounded me.
I had spent time in the intelligence world although not enough in the field itself but more in the diplomatic and analytical side of the house.
The response seemed as though the Minister was aloof or perhaps withholding information.
Perhaps it was just my healthy sense of paranoia.
Regardless though a mandolarian force had been sighted with the Sith Navy and were obviously mercenaries who had be bought out to wage war.
I thought for a moment as a devious plot and agenda came about in my mind.
I glanced over to the man who so far had remained a troublesome barrier in my political schemes in the system of Carida.
For now I would keep those thoughts abated until.
My thoughts turned a possible solution but required dramatic timing.

I sent the message but I would be unaware that it would be broken in transmission as suddenly our vessels came out of hyperspace.

The fleet was still at condition 1.
Red klaxons flared up and the corridors darkened into a crimson glow.
We had apparently dropped well outside the system.

I looked to Viktor to see what was happening.

“Send a scouting party, send the F-68th with a fighter squadron into hyperspace at these coordinates here” Vice Admiral Kurganova ordered.

“Why did we drop out?” I asked though my mind saw the reasoning almost immediately after the words escaped my lips. I regretted asking that as the larger man simply smirked and hardly gave me even a glance from staring at the holomap as it began to update. Allied signatures could barely be made out from this distance and range. A blurred host of red also seemed to cloud around the inner portion of the system.

“I had gut feeling, If the enemy have already attacked into the system a rear guard force would likely have been deployed. Sometimes my gut is wrong though”

We watched as the signature of the Danios corvette disappeared as soon as it dropped out of hyperspace along with the fighter squadron’s signatures dropping like flys across the dash board.

My own gut wrenched a little at the callous use of the people under his command.
Then again his family practically owned and ruled slave mines on the moons of Nova Sierra…

“Sir F-68 is lost all hands and Squadron Fox Devils are reporting casualties and are engaged in combat”
Viktor Kurganova folded his arms together and then ordered an all head full to the task force.
The Antiqua took up a position in the center of the formation with the Sword and Archer in the rear. The cruisers, frigates and corvettes took up a conical formation that extended out from the Antiqua.

The Nova Sierran looked at me with a grin "I guess my gut was right"
Boy did I want him dead...

How was this ever going to work with them on opposing sides.. it wouldn't she knew it wouldn't.

She could justify many things in that his culture allowed for such contracts and that as a mandalorian wife she understood, but as a Republic Minister she couldn't make excuses for those would cost lives and she wasn't going to be responsible for that. She would do her job.

Maybe she needed to retreat from political life.

What was more important she had to ask herself.

Draco looked at the transmission and sighed. She was upset. He could feel her anger and displeasure through their Force Bond from here. Rightfully so, but he couldn't just abandon the One Sith. They were vindictive, and they were well aware of his connection with Alderaan. Ditching them and screwing them would result in a target on her back and every assassin they had at their disposal gunning for her. He couldn't have that, but, it was apparent he also could operate like he was at the moment. He had done much to protect her reputation.

He was still very far away from the planet, it would be sometime before he was close enough to get her. He was still outside of Long Range HVC range from orbit with the planet, and for his slower ships, that would be quite a while. There was still enough space for someone to drop in between him and the planet. And as far as he could tell, she wasn't happy with him. There was no way she would be happy about him picking her up from the planet.

"Slow us down, pull interdiction to local." Rach looked at his master for a moment before relaying the order to the fleet.

Fire began to light up in the space between the two large fleets. Admiral Gofai's jaw briefly tensed up before it slackened as he watched a particularly bright fireball light up in the minefield. He didn't know who the explosion engulfed, if anyone, but he knew all to well that some soul had likely just entered the great beyond. More Republic fighters, a motley collection of governmental made R44 Valiants backed by numerous Rendili and Mon Calamari designs, began to enter the battlefield to support the highly durable but threatened Cyclone-class bombers. Under heavy fire, the Firezone-class Minelayers raced past the front lines of the Togoria Defense Fleet. The battle seemed to be heating up with the newly arrived Razer frigates and One Sith starfighters providing the initial flash and focal points, but it was rapidly becoming a more diffuse battle as the long-range guns of the fleets opened fire.

He began to flip through his tactical screen to catch quick glimpses of the batlte. If anything, the One Sith were known for their reliance on long-range firepower, which had driven a host of Republic research both technological and psychological. Yet he found it curious to see the enemy pressing forward with the Razer-class Frigates. While certainly dangerous to both the initial group of Cyclones and more than capable of clearing out the minefield, by continuing to press through the minefield, they were coming in range of the Republic's ships that weren't dedicated to long-range duels. The quintet of Arendal-class Heavy Cruisers led by the Bermuda cruised forward in a wedge formation to engage each Razer-class Frigate individually among the sea of dogfighting starfighters.

"They're beginning to focus fire on our frigates," noted Captain Astre, a short but well-figured blonde.

"A curious choice," said Salek, bringing up his console to observe the frigates through short-range EPRs.

The Delphin-class was one of those technological products influenced by the predominant OS design of focusing on long-range weapons. Not only did it sport double hypervelocity cannons and triple-layered shields for long-range dueling, but its Erebus-class Jamming Arrays were designed to put enemy long-range duelers at a disadvantage. As the One Sith's larger warships began to open fire on the frigates, each jamming array began to focus on an individual large warship of oncoming OS fleet, starting with the Vainglory. While the arrays were not likely to completely misdirect all enemy fire control, the further away the distance between the two fleets, the less effective the One Sith starships would be at damaging the frigates. But the volume of fire from the One Sith warships was intense. Salek could see that the frigates would not last long in their current positions as the One Sith fleet closed in. He sighed. They'll have to move...He began to punch in orders, signalling the assault frigates to pair up and overlap their shields with the Colossus and the three MCE-55s to strengthen their shield strength. Defense can ensure our survival, but to win, we have to take the offensive. Let's focus fire on the tip of their starboard formation, starting with the Vainglory...The Formidable, Colossus, Achilles, Argonaut, and Swiftsure began to fire on the enemy star destroyer. While the last four required some reorientation to began to effectively fire, the Formidable almost immediately began to use its turreted hypervelocity cannon batteries, pulse turbolasers, and mass driver cannons immediately erupted into thunderous fire.

A blue icon began to flash on his screen. He clicked on it, bringing up a manifest of the incoming ships of Cerulean Spear Command, named after the old Sector Army group that once patrolled the area. About time...so where do we want them? He glanced at the formations before deciding to deactivate the Sleuth's gravity well projector. He glanced at the chrono counting down in the bottom of his screen. Soon. Several minutes passed before one of the Republic's other answers to the One Sith focus on long-range firepower occurred: the reversion of Cerulean Spear Command at the port flank guided by the placement of the Selene's gravity well in a classic example of a Thrawn Pincer. The Republic ships arrived in a wedge perpendicular to the forward motion of the OS port flank.

"We're reverting."

The shifting colors of hyperspace travel came to an abrupt halt as the Selene's gravity well drew the ships of Cerulean Spear Command into realspace almost right on top of the One Sith Fleet's port flank. Gir could see the faint lights of what he thought were the viewports on the looming hulls of the nearby One Sith warships. Almost immediately the batteries of the Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Anson began to hammer away at the Vainglory's port side while the rest of the fleet began to engage other enemy vessels directly led by that star destroyer. The Republic's own Pulse turbolasers found on the two Champion-class Star Destroyers and five Arendal-class Heavy Cruisers were optimized for such close-range combat. Those two groups of ships accompanied by the Procursator Mk X-class Line Destroyers and the Mon Calamari built corvettes began to wade into close quarter's combat with their One Sith foes, leaving the MCE-55s, Delphin-class frigates and Agave-class Picket Ship behind as an anchor to provide supporting fire to advancing Republic vessels. The jamming arrays on the Obi-Wan Kenobi and the quartet of Delphin-class frigates came online to target the larger ships in the One Sith Fleet's center and beyond to suppress supporting fire from the ships that weren't in the immediate area of the port flank.

Gir turned to Admiral Lod, "If I might make a suggestion."

"By all means."

"If we move to our port and continue forward, we'll be able to rake their sterns with fire with a minimal enemy return fire..for a time..."

"And if they turn around to face us head on?" said Lod, "nevermind...I see. If they do that, they expose their rears to the Togoria Defense Forces. Broadside warfare then."

Gir nodded, "Unless we outmaneuver them...many of the larger One Sith warships aren't really known for their handling capabilities..."

"Do it."

Malos knew that [member="Reen Lorgon"]'s sensors would be able to sense that Malos' ships were targeting his squadron. The One Sith Naval Commander could therefore sense that the veteran commander's ships were beginning to target his, with some ship targeting his Vanguard Heavy Cruiser. The -hopefully- One Sith Admiral then began to remember something that made him slightly feel at ease, but he was still as vigilant as he could ever be, among other things.

Like any commander, he had studied the weaponry, and the ranges of each specific ship the Republic had, and he knew the ones that were in Reen Lorgon's squadron. It had taken some days of studying, but he knew the weapon's by heart. The reason why he felt slightly at ease was because most of Reen Lorgon's ships did not have weapons that were designed for long range, nor did he have ships that were heavy long range. The Ephicanthix/Pantoran Cyborg therefore knew that since his squadron were in the "long range" when it came to weaponry, any attempts at firing at his ship was wasted, and was a waste of energy. The Sith Commander also some weaknesses about specific weaponry that were carried in some of Reen Lorgon's ships, and was ready to use his knowledge to his benefit.

Malos already knew what was going to happen to most of his ships. Since the One Sith Navy had powerful long range ships, some under Malos' command, the One Sith Commander knew that this was the range that would benefit him. He also knew this: the enemy ships that fired their turbolasers, or any laser based weapons(quad canons, etc) would have their energy dissipate when they reached a specific range; the fact that most of his ship's weaponry weren't built for long range helped Malos, and his squadron; furthermore, just because he had some mass drivers did not help at all. Yes, Malos was well aware of the fact that projectiles technically had "infinite" space in space; nevertheless, he also knew that all practically speaking, projectiles also had practical range like a turbolaser, and any projectile based weaponry that wasn't built for long range wouldn't affect him.

The fact that [member="Reen Lorgon"] wasted his power generator's energy at firing his ships basically meant that he had wasted energy that could have gone to other critical systems of his ship. Malos wanted to make sure he could utulize whatever he had against the veteran Captain of the Republic Navy.

"Put more power into the shields, and weapon systems. Continue concentrated fire, and be wary of them moving away from our range. Have the Vanguard move slightly back as well, and have it redirect fire at a Unity Class Assault Ship as well. Have the starfighters maintain a defensive screen, and make sure that they are ready for any enemy ships that attack " he ordered. The Wyylok converted fire to the Unity Assault Ship, one of the most powerful One Sith long range weapons firing twenty fire long range turbolasers, and thirty five long range ion bolts. The ion bolts fired a full salvo first(meaning 35 ion bolts coming it all at once on the Unity Class Assault Ship), targeting the shielding systems, and the other electrical systems of the ship. The turbolaser bolts would also fire powerful shots as well in an attempt to decimate the shielding, and destroy the hull of the ship.

"Sir, what about the ship that came from the port flank"(OOC: In relation to [member="Gir Quee"]'s fleet).

"It is attacking the flank of [member="Cyrus Tregessar"]'s fleet; as much as I would love to help, you know our orders; it won't affect us at all."

As the Vanguard moved back, it also targeted the Unity Class Assault Ship, using it's five heavy long range mass driver cannons, and 8 heavy long range turbolaser cannons to fire at the ship. The Boneshatters redirected fire to the Utopia Class Frigates, 4x boneshatters focusing fire on one ship, while 3x focusing fire on another ship, each boneshatter using 10x long range turbolaser cannons to fuel their power.

Reen Lorgon's order of having the Avenger Class Star Defender, the Savior fire torpedoes at a capital ship wasn't necessary, considering the fact that the Avenger Class Star Defender didn't have torpedoes as part of his weaponry(per the tech profile); moreover, the Captain's attempt at moving the steadfast cruisers back was notable, but them moving out of heavy long range(the highest range from what I've seen in SWRP Chaos), meant that they were somewhat isolated from the Republic Commander's squadron, but they could still communicate, could move forward, respond etc. Malos would also be aware of them movign forward, mostly because he could see them from his view port, but also because he had a 3D Projection(from his CIC) of the Map infront of him, which gave him a display of various movements by his opposing, and friendly forces.

F-68 was violently pulled out of hyperspace by several Empion mines, the captain of the vessel ordered the shields up just barely in time to absorb some of the explosive force of the Void-7 mines. The fighters though erupted like flies in a zap trap. A few of them managed to evade destruction.
With all the interference F-68’s sensor suite was briefly overwhelmed and would not ascertain the IFF tags of the enemy vessels until moments later.
What was left of Fox Squadron scattered and began to route immediately.
F-68 began to come about. Having jumped straight into an enemy trap the Corvette sought to relay its tactical data and jump away to where the task force had arrived initially.
The Vice Admiral would be intrigued as to who was fighting for the Republic

“Senator another message from the Minister” The Comms officer looked again to me.
The Vice Admiral looked over at me pacing back and forth as we made our way into the system.
“Something I should be aware of Senator?”
“Not certain, I’m in contact with the Minister getting some details of the ground battle” I lied.
The old intelligence agent in me could see in the language being used that there may be a personal connection between the Minister and Mandalorians here.
However it was so far just speculation.
“Admiral, Sir, F-68 is reporting that the Deathwatch are here in force!”
“Deathwatch," Viktor exclaimed as in an AH HA! manner "sellswords who claim to uphold some farce of their mandalorian code… Whatever they are here fighting for the Sith then they are our enemy. Get F-68 to retreat to the rally point, have the fleet prepare for hyperspace jump we will get closer in the system above the plane and assault from above”

“Admiral, It looks like I may have to run an errand when we come out of hyperspace, it appears Minister Organa is on surface of Togoria. I’ll see about extracting her”
“Senator I would advise against that entirely, you are a Government official, it would be unsafe”
“I’ll take that into consideration but for now I’ll deploy with my own personal guard force to extract the VIP. Can’t have the sith capturing one of our highest ranking members of the government.”
Viktor nodded and with a shrug, turned away too issue further orders.

The Antiqua would tighten up with the cruisers and the corvettes and frigates began to slow their speed to form up behind the Antiqua. While the Sword and Archer broke from the formation and moved away. Still holding a conical formation the bulk of the task force jumped into the Mid system above the plane. The two Procurator ships arrived about fifteen kilometers away from the formation.

“Deploy all squadrons and prepare to establish a zone of control, I to keep their fighters from getting into our formation”

Reen looked worried, for this wasn't what he usually did. "Move all ships back, out of their range. Divert power to shields and tell all fighter groups to engage the ships as a diversion. This isn't a fight we can win without huge loses."

At once, all the ships under his command began to move backwards, in an effort to get out of their range. At the same time, all of the fighter groups flew in, targeting the turbolasers and ion cannons of the ships.

The communications officer glanced up at the Commander and the elder Mandalorian Fleet officer. "Warden's report hyperspace signatures in bound. Trajectory is marked on strategic map."

"Adjust the fleet, burn maneuvering boosters to turn us about face. Fire Wardens as soon as they revert." Early warning systems provided the fleet with rough sizes and classifications of ships in bounds numerous seconds in advance, combined with other equipment to give the fleet a heads up on the incoming forces.

The Mandalorian force's main line pulled upwards while the support ships in the back pulled downwards pushing at max speed to slip behind the battle line of heavy ships. "Shields angled, eighty percent to the fore." Once the enemy fleet reverted to realspace Warden-class Sentinel frigates began active sensor pings, using the quartet of full sensor systems from each used to map the enemy fleet.

"Nebula cannons firing in three," The dust clouds propelled through space ejected from the Warden-class frigates, towards the enemy fleet. While the dust wasn't damaging in the least, it was designed to mitigate the effectiveness of stealth and cloaking. While the dust advanced on the enemy fleet, the Warden's would scan the advancing clouds for abnormalities, looking for the shadows of cloaked ships, while stealth ships might find themselves coated in dust that was very easily picked up on sensors.

"Sir, enemy fleet composition is being read. Not full detail, but we have categories, working on gathering other information." The officers of the bridge scrambled, seeing to dozens of issues and data-relays, moving around and keeping the fleet going.

"Have the assault wing continue to move in hide mode. Push for the planet, sweep around beside the enemy fleet at range. Defense wing pull into defensive positions. Support wing remain with the Guardian. Use the Sev'rance to protect the Guardian. Main line, engage Electronic warfare units engage primary enemy targets. Start with the command ship." Powerful sensor jamming beams rotated and began targeting the enemy vessels sensors had identified, seeking to blind them in sensor signals to reduce the effectiveness of long range accuracy. Conical distortion projectors were spread across the enemy fleet, trying to get as many ships as possible with the minor sensor distortion effects while three ships were targeted heavily but numerous jamming beam projectors, eight targeting the Nobelesse, and four targeting each of the Arendals.

"Use Hecr's on the fore for active sensor pings and missile defense, Roche's to begin sensor pings throughout the fleet." There would be no stealth today, with several wide varieties of detector vessels spread throughout the Mandalorian fleet. "Reload ordnance. Graviton warheads set for standard range, missile disruption across the Bes'drahrs, Cluster warheads for Kyramund and Kandosii."

The elder commander moved across the bridge, to stand beside the Mandalorian Commander. "Well, sir? Do we fire?" The elder man suspected the order to fall back and regroup was coming soon, but he wasn't sure given the secrecy of the situation.

"Hold fire, advance upon the enemy formation." The Mandalorian fleet lacked much long range weaponry, though it did have some spread across the formation. For now, the fleet was well protected and damage to the formation would be limited at long range given the heavy shielding, the large ships being used as physical shields for their escorts, and the powerful sensor jamming beams being used against the primary artillery vessels.

"Long range contacts, reversion on our port flank! Contacts identifying as Cerulean Spear Command. Sir, it's a Republic Task force, approximately twenty ships."

So, the enemy reinforcements were here, and right where they could do the most damage, no less.

No sooner had they arrived than the enemy task group began firing on Battlegroup Fury. Admiral Stark was probably throwing a fit right about now, as his forces were the ones caught in a pincer formation. He'd get over it soon enough, for the moment all he had to do was absorb a few hits on his star destroyers.

The initial deception appeared to have worked. I'tan's wedge of Star Destroyers certainly appeared threatening, and at the moment the Vainglory was the target of much of the enemy firepower. But the Wyyrlok's were designed to take hits, and the three vessels merged as close as was feasible, rotating in and out closely in a variant of the sword-and-shield tactic often utilized by pairs of ships. It wasn't a perfect defensive technique, the shields on the Vainglory itself dropped twice and it took multiple hits, but nothing so serious as to put it out of action.

On the starboard flank the Razer's were suffering the result of their close-range engagements. Two of the corvettes were pulverized as they faced off against Arendal-class Cruisers, their hulks added to the hazards of the mine field. The other three withdrew under heavy fire, with two crippled and the last maintaining combat effectiveness only by the efforts of its damage control teams.

They had done their job, though, drawing elements of the Togorian Defense fleet forward while also minimizing the threat of mines to larger ships. if the Republic forces had made any error so far, it was in assuming that the Sith Navy somehow guarded the lives of those on its lesser vessels. Compassion had yet to stake a claim, even after the purges. One advanced by virtue of skill and more than a bit luck, those on the numerous corvettes and frigates knew the risks associated with them.

It was the price paid for ambition. Cyrus' orders were short and to the point.

"They've taken the bait, launch strikes on all the enemy cruisers, coordinated time on top, Boneshatter and Star Wings in concert. Take those cruisers out of the picture and Sar'theron should have no trouble rolling up the enemy flank."

As Battlegroup Fury fought simply to hold out, Battlegroup Rage continued its advance into the now basically defunct minefield. They'd lost four corvettes to make a hole, and now they exploited it as best they could. Boneshatter-class Frigates darted forward, covered by the heavy guns of the Vanguards, launching volleys of Assault Concussion missiles at close range at the exposed Arendal Cruisers of the Togorian Defense Fleet.

They did not operate alone, squadrons of Star Wing II's (escorted by Allegiant-class fighters), split into three divisions of four made timed runs to coincide with the Assault missiles. A four-pronged strike, with each side consisting of a potentially devastating spread of ordnance. Nor was there time to focus defensive efforts on the Boneshatters, as the rest of Battlegroup Rage closed quarters in the wake of the missiles, led by the Sanguinary.

The worst was yet to come. Nestled to the center and rear of the Sith fleet was DesRon 23 and the Flagship. Two Dark Blades and an Immortal which had until now been silent, each vessel simply accumulating targeting data compiled by the fleet at large and the Furtive in particular. Now as the two fleets closed and shifted, the massive Indomitable began to shift, targeting one of the MCE-55's that had dared to move forward to try and shield the Delphin frigates.

Aboard the vessel, Vice Admiral Kyra Mir watched the scene unfold with a growing sense of mirth.

"Confirm fire control quality data on the lead MCE-55, what did you say its name was?"

"Achilles, ma'am."

"It better check its karking boots, all weapons fire at will."

As one, the Contempt, Arrogance, and most significantly the Indomitable opened fire with their long range weaponry on the unsuspecting cruiser.

There would be more to follow.
