Public Opening of Everlight (ATTN: Anyone looking to party)

Seku cast a practiced eye around the nightclub again, before leaning towards Alex to ask him the question that had haunted her for over three years.

"What was your mission three years ago, anyhow," she asked in a low voice. "You never even had the decency to come and tell me goodbye."

Alex took a long swallow of his drink before answering her.

"I didn't have a choice in the matter," he replied. "Nobody on this side was supposed to even know I was gone until after I was behind enemy lines. It was thought that with me not being a stellar, straight arrow Jedi and all, that I could quietly infiltrate the Sith Empire by posing as a defector."

"So what happened," Seku asked. "How'd you get burned?"

"They were waiting for me. Saw right the ruse," Alex answered, before taking another sip of his drink. "Well, actually let me rephrase that....SHE was waiting for me."

"Who's SHE," Seku demanded, eyes blazing.

"I never took you for the jealous type, Seku.," Alex laughed. "It's sort of cute on you."

"Damn it Alex! Be serious. Who did this to you?! You're not the same person you were before you left."

"You know darned well who I'm talking about, Seku, don't play the dumb game with me."

"That Sith b**ch named Venge," Seku growled through clenched teeth. "It was her, wasn't it?"

"See? You can figure it out on your own, given enough time."

"You reckless, irresponsible, thick headed man, what am I going to do with you," Seku asked, with more than a hint of exasperation in her voice.

"Didn't you just say something about dragging me to somebody who could help solve my little memory problem, and that if I promised to be good, you'd see to it that we found someplace private to do a lot more catching up?"

"Yeah, I did, didn't I," Seku finally conceded, waving at the bartender to get their attention. "You owe me big time, Mister. Don't you ever forget."

"I always pay my debts. You know that. And after hearing what you did to get Rud's cooperation, I think I know better than to ever cross you."

"See that you don't," Seku replied with a wink, giving Alex a playful pat on his cheek. "Because if you ever do, your head would look absolutely amazing, stuffed and mounted as a centerpiece above the mantle in my living room."

_________________________________________________________

If Mr. Rhyne spent enough time in her presence, he would learn that she could be incredibly taxing. Her mannerisms were either taken with a grain of salt or universally reviled. It didn't help matters that she had a tendency to emulate her more shadowy brethren by dealing in absolutes. There were shades of gray in the universe—But once Srina made up her mind? That was it. There was no changing it.

Her expression remained neutral while the much larger man seemed to settle. Even settled, seated, he towered over her. That was nothing new. She had been told that she had the remarkable ability of being forced to look up at someone to meet their eye; while simultaneously looking down on them. It wasn't intentional. She was merely secure in herself. Even now—while the Force was being muffled and strangled by some unseen object. Her head inclined, almost graciously, when the proprietor claimed he would keep her true name in mind. Her point, made. "…Thank you."

The delicate creatures sighed and glanced back toward the Jedi that had thought to stand against what he believed to be corruption. Had she ever known a Jedi that knew what "pragmatism" was without cramming a holo-novel of morality down the throat of the opposition? No. It was one of the many reasons she chose the dark. It was the sharper tool. "…An inherited weakness, unfortunately."

From Master to Knight, Knight to Padawan, and over, and over it went through generations.

"He does have heart."

It was a pity that the same thing that endeared the whelp would also get him killed in the wrong company. Her lips flattened and a gentle frown passed across her features in a soft wave. She knew the inherent wrongness of it. Having "heart" was not enough. Not enough to succeed, make a mark, or at the barest level even survive in the world they lived in. He would live for the time being on the grace of his betters and a connection to the eternal. Beyond that?

If he did not adapt; He would die. Like all that came before.

A singular brow rose at the notion that Everlight was a strange place for her to frequent. Her head tilted a little and ribbons of silver hair shifted in the changing lights, leaving ghostly prisms. "Is it so strange?"

The "invitation" had been passed up the chain through one of the many shell companies that Maliphant owned. It was addressed to "a representative" but there was no one particularly asked for. When she needed neutral ground to meet with one of his clients in lieu of his current status it was too good of an opportunity to waste. For several reasons. Still. She didn't expect such immediate recognition.

"A little of column "A" as they say…And a little of "B". One more than the other."

Srina didn't drink. Not socially or otherwise…But was it not rude to accept the offer? Whether or not she proceeded with this conversation would depend on the temperament of the man before her. The Echani had intended to take matters into her own hands after leaving the bar the first time—But perhaps she didn't have to. Perhaps, there was a way that wouldn't land her on the wrong side of Galactic Alliance authorities.

Her pockets were deep. Maliphants, deeper. But the last thing he needed at this juncture was exposure. She had come here to aid him. Not impede.

"…If you would like, I will accept."

The words were careful.

In truth—She hadn't a clue what to order. Even as an Exarch she had avoided anything alcoholic because it dulled the senses. The last thing the galaxy needed was someone that could cause earthquakes and geostorms with a thought not fully in control of their faculties. Being full-blooded Echani was dangerous enough. A combative game, without complete authority, quickly turned into a killing one.

Miri allowed Kyell to lead her away from the dancefloor, waving cheerfully to the rubberneckers staring at them.

<Well, you fell on my chest,> Miri pointed out as she took a seat. <So if you want to take a look at the bruises, maybe don’t do that in public.>

Unable to understand Kyell’s telepathy, the bartender knew something was up, but didn’t know what it was. Miri turned to him and asked, “Could I have some ice, please? This man squished me on the dance floor.

She took the ice the bartender provided, ate some of it (a bad habit she’d had ever since she was a kid and had merely gotten good at hiding—most of the time), and pressed the rest to her side. <It doesn’t really hurt. I’ve had much worse.>

She abruptly hesitated, growing serious if not sober. <Do you think what happened at Ilum… with Hacks catching fire… Was I wrong to do that?>

"I wouldn't ask if I didn't like that idea." He pointed out slyly, before gesturing towards S'vrine to gather their attention. This turned out to be unnecessary because all S'vrine was doing was pay attention to him. When Butcher commanded you to do something... you did it, or you risked being left with a smashed face in the gutter. At best.

Horus was pleasantly unaware of these fears however.

"An..." Then he chuckled at the sudden inspiration. "A Cassandra Sunrise for the lady, S'vrine." Something told him that Srina had left a whole trail of broken hearts and tears throughout the Galaxy.

The golden hue shone bright as the attendant poured the drink for her and presented it within the span of moments.

"But it is a little bit strange, Srina. You, someone who ruled a region as big as quarter of the Galaxy. All powerful and all influential... sitting in this, granted very nice, nightclub sipping water?"

Horus didn't seem overly bothered however.

Another sip from his drink.

Almost as if he was used drinking with Queens and Kings... or maybe he was just really great at faking it.

She might not have seen his expression, but Kara could hear it in his voice when he spoke. He had already seen his fair share of battles, far more than her one that was for certain. Kara checked him out again, trying to discern how war-torn he was. Clothing kinda impeded that, but at the very least he wasn’t sporting any visible cybernetics.

His face was still pretty clean, aside from a few scrapes and cuts that looked fairly recent. Good, wouldn’t want to permanent scar a face that hands-

Kara immediately stalled that line of thought, turning her head to look down at her whiskey. Staring at it as if the liquid was conspiring against her already.

Last time I checked, I wasn’t ‘that’ much of a lightweight.

The blonde’s internal dialogue was interrupted by a newcomer, offering to sell them some Giggledust. Kara turned in her seat to look at this apparent dealer, immediately noting the man was a Shistavanen.

Yeah same, I’ve got no interest in some giggledust either.

Mimicking Aiden, Kara returned to her drink rather than continue conversation with the Shistavanen. She took a sip, then glanced over at the Corellian beside her.

Seriously though, giggledust would be awful at a twelve-year-old’s birthday.” The very idea of it brought out a small laugh out of Kara.

<Well, you fell on my chest,> Miri pointed out as she took a seat. <So if you want to take a look at the bruises, maybe don't do that in public.>

Kyell blinked, stopped his inspection of her arms, and looked her in the eyes with an amused grin. She really had no filter anymore now that she had a couple of drinks, and he wasn't sure if he should be entertained or scared anymore. <You know, you also fell onto your back and maybe your elbows hit the ground...>

He smiled innocently and looked over at the bartender. But before he could really internally panic about trying to ask for ice without speaking, Miri had him covered and was given some ice to at least handle her sides.

<It doesn't really hurt. I've had much worse.>

<Good, but keep the ice there or I'll do it myself,> he said with a more protective tone. But as light-hearted as everything had been so far, the conversation shifted and he met her eyes with a worried look. <Well, it's easier to judge in hindsight, and she was trying to actively kill us. But... we should definitely try to avoid causing harm if we can.> Knowing it bothered her, Kyell stepped closer and gently pulled her with her side against him.

<You did great helping keep her alive though, and you had my back again when she took over my arm. So don't be too harsh on yourself, alright?>

"I'm in no hurry to become a permanent addition to your trophy room," Alex replied. "Believe me....."

"I confess, there's another room I'd rather make you a permanent addition to," Seku stated. "It'd make things a lot more cozy in there."

"I'm liking where I think this may be headed," Alex answered, with a big, hopeful grin on his face. "Where do I sign?"

"Not so fast there, Hotshot," Seku interjected, tapping her forefinger on Alex's forehead for emphasis. "We have things that still need to be addressed beforehand."

"Killjoy," Alex muttered. "You always know how to take the wind out of a guy's sail, don't you?"

"I've been keeping tabs on you privately for awhile now, Alex. As I've said...you're not the person you were before you went missing. I want to know why."

"My gut already tells me we're not going to like what we find out," Alex said. "Maybe it's better if we don't know..."

"You're not backing out of this, Alex," Seku growled, her eyes narrowing for emphasis. "If I have to drag you kicking and screaming out of here, in front of everyone, I will!"

"Don't threaten me with a good time girl," Alex smirked.

"Boc'ara," Seku chuckled, calling Alex an idiot in her native tongue, as she rolled her eyes at him.

"Yeah, but I'm YOUR idiot, and you wouldn't have it any other way, right?"

"Fair enough, Love. Fair enough," Seku conceded, with a shake of her head and a wide grin on her face.

"Alright, let's assume for the moment that I agree to all this. How do we proceed?"

"I know a Jedi Healer or two who should be able to help you. I'll have to make a couple of calls and ask for a huge favor."

"I sincerely hope this doesn't involve trying to blackmail a Jedi..."

"Don't you worry, Love. My treachery only applies for those who truly deserve it. Rud Livan for example," Seku replied. "Or about roughly 70 to 80 percent of the clientele and staff in this club."

"Oh? What's the story here?"

"Without going into specifics, let's just say the office has extensive files on a whole lot of faces here tonight. Black Sun, Hutt Cartels, bounty hunters, that sort of thing."

"Figures. I thought this place had a weird vibe to it when I got here. The uneasy feeling that says all the glitz and glamour is just a cover for something more than a bit shady."

"I'll let someone else deal with that. Right now, we need to focus on getting your head on straight."

"I was already on it before you got here," Alex replied, lifting his glass towards Seku in an impromptu toast. "Cheers."

"Slamming down drinks all night really isn't going to help what's left of the rocks you have in that thick head of yours, Mister," Seku said, grabbing the glass out of Alex's hand and setting it on the bar out of his reach. "Come up for some air here."

"You trying to say I have a drinking problem or something?"

"No...that's not what I'm saying. But you're headed there. You've been incredibly self destructive since you turned up again on Tatooine. No...I take that back, you were incredibly self destructive even before you disappeared, but far more so now. What's this story Malcolm tells me that you ran off to some backwater world a few years ago to fight...vampires and almost got yourself killed? Is that true, or is the old man finally losing his mind?"

"Malcolm told you about that one, eh? Well, as I recall, some nobleman was fighting to reclaim his family's title and rightful rule, but he needed a hand dealing with all sorts of malevolent Sith spawned creatures that were the literal embodiment of every childhood nightmare. There were quite a few interesting people besides myself who answered that call. Things started getting a little too hairy right from the start, so I took my pay for what bounties I had managed to collect, and got out of there. I'd thought we were only dealing with a local problem. As is turns out, the entire planet was overrun with these things."

"Spare me the details, I don't need any bad dreams later.," Seku said, visibly shuddering a bit. "I honestly thought Malcolm was exaggerating."

"Trust me, I wish he was too."

<Good, but keep the ice there or I'll do it myself.>

<Don’t threaten me with a good time.>

But of course, the tone of the conversation shifted after she posed her question. Miri was, for good or ill, an honest drunk.

<I wanted to kill her,> she confessed. <I was hoping it would. That’s why I’ve never been a good Jedi. I hate the people we fight. I despise them, loathe them. I just want them to stop, and the surest way to do that is to end their miserable lives before they can do any more harm.>

Leaning forward, she rested her head against Kyell’s shoulder. <When Hacks was hurting you, I wanted to wipe her out of existence. Erase her. I was afraid that if I pulled the trigger, though, you’d never forgive me. But if I hadn’t, and she had killed you, I’d never be able to forgive myself.>

Seku's comlink suddenly started beeping while she and Alex were conversing.

"Wait right here, I need to find someplace quiet to answer this."

Before Alex could give a response, she had already vanished somewhere into the crowd.

"How in the world does she do that," Alex wondered out loud.

Several minutes later, Seku emerged from the crowd, slowly creeping up behind Alex, intending to give him her customary greeting again. This time however, Alex was ready for her.

"Once tonight was enough already, Hirani," Alex said, calling her 'Beautiful' in the Twi'lek tongue as he caught her hand on his right shoulder.

Seku was visibly blushing as Alex swung around on his bar stool to face her.

"Alex...you...you haven't called me that in ages. Um, anyhow...do you still have that YT-1300 you always used to fool around with?"

"Of course I do. Why do you ask?"

"Pack your bags, Mister. We're taking a little trip."

"Huh?!"

"The Jedi are regrouping on Ilum. There's a Temple there, and more to the point, we can find you a Healer."

"You're really going to make me go through with this?"

"Kicking and screaming, if I have to, Mister,"
Seku replied. "That's a promise."

"Ok...ok! I'm coming," Alex said, throwing his hands up in surrender. "Cool your hyperdrives already!"

He let the comment about threatening her with a good time slide for now, and focused on the more serious topic she had brought up. It was quite a shift in atmosphere but if it was something that bothered her or kept her mind occupied, he'd always listen and offer his help.

<Sometimes the easy way might not be the best way in the end. There is merit to preserving life because the Force flows through it, and killing weakens it. But from a very practical viewpoint, leaving that cyborg alive will now allow us to interrogate her and maybe learn things that can stop a lot more of their kind from causing harm,> he said with a calm tone as he felt her leaning into him. In response, his arms wrapped around her and he just stood here, holding her close.

<You made the right decision in the end, but if you had pulled that trigger because you feared she'd actually kill me, I would not have been upset with you,> he admitted himself, whether it was a good or a bad thing. <If the roles were reversed and someone threatened to kill you like that... I'd have done whatever was necessary to stop them as well.>

Oh?

Xyoz blinked for a moment, then snickered. Nodding in Kara's direction in particular. "Nah, nah. It's no kiddie stuff. Spice should never be given out to kids. But neither of you seem like kids." He produced a small, rather fancy looking vial. Full of the orange powder. As ever, the grin remained. "You both seem to be stressin, goin' into some deep, deep conversations n' whatnot. The stress of war, so they say. So here, free.. Sample, we'll call it. Have a laugh, enjoy the night."

He shrugged his shoulders, turning to head off and find someone else to sell to. "Just try and have fun, regardless. It's a club after all."

And with that he was gone. She smelled like a Jedi.

He really didn't like Jedi.

Kyell’s admission surprised her enough that Miri raised her head from his shoulder, her eyes searching his.

<That’s good to know,> she said, feeling as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. She wasn’t bloodthirsty or crazy for being willing to kill in order to protect the people she cared about. <And I suppose you’re right about Hacks being worth more alive than dead…

<Although, that argument about the Force being in all life… there wasn’t much left of her that wasn’t a machine. When I went to help her, all I could really do was anoint her head with bacta and pray. So maybe it wouldn't really weaken the Force if I had killed her...>

<"Interrupting something, am I?">

The familiar voice echoed in both Kyell and Miri's minds as a familiar figure stood on a stool one space away from them, naturally with a half-empty bottle of whiskey in front of her. Her small figure, until now, was hidden by another patron until the man stood up and walked away. While she couldn't get everything in their conversation, she was in the unfortunate position of listening in through Kyell's mind through their connection, enough to get the general idea of what they were saying. And the frown on her face indicated that she was not happy at all.

<"Ask, before you... a personal experiment, I was conducting. Depressing, it turned out."> She admitted with a blink as she took a long sip of her drink. Whether it was for the sake of privacy, or the sounds around them, Yenna stuck with her telepathy.

<"And both of you... talk, we must. Now, some sleep, I suggest you two get. Early, tomorrow's lesson starts."> She gave the two a knowing look as an eyebrow raised from her frown. <"And sleep, I do mean."> She commented, before downing the remaining contents of her drink and hopping off her stool. Surprisingly, not a hint of intoxication was present in her features as she gave them one last wave, the beginning of a mischievous grin tugging at the corners of her lips before she turned to walk off.

It was likely not right of her to do... but the reactions were priceless...

Srina tilted her head a little at his sly response and the corner of her mouth stitched a little at the obvious. "People do things for many reasons. Sincerity, boredom, politeness, or fear. I can never tell which is which.", she returned, carefully, before moving toward the empty barstool on his right. The seemingly soft woman really hadn't thought she'd been returning to the bar. Not so soon, at any rate. She let her hands fall on the seat first and effortlessly lifted her body back into it while one leg neatly crossed over the other. Ankles tucked, demure, despite very dangerous-looking footwear. "Sometimes, I settle for a bit of everything."

Typically quiet features seemed to lessen in severity when the bartender brought the "Cassandra Sunrise" and a touch of curiosity gave her a more girlish countenance. Only, for a moment. It disappeared as quickly as it arrived. Eyeing the bit of decoration and pressed her lips together for a moment, not entirely sure, that she was seeing it correctly. "…Is that fungus?"

The fact that someone had just served her a glimmering beverage that was garnished with a mushroom caused her to shake her head. Graceful hands picked it up and turned the glass around for a moment to watch the golden liquid move. And she was to drink, this? It looked more like art than a beverage.

His explanation of her "strangeness" drew an uncharacteristically soft laugh from betwixt naturally primrose lips. The sound was light, airy, and equally fleeting—Despite the fact that it carried like expensive shimmersilk spilling all over the floor. "Ruled?"

"I am afraid that you are mistaken, Mr. Rhyne. I served. I have never ruled anything. The only true royal I have ever known was the last true Queen of Eshan. I am many things; but I am not fool enough to think so highly of myself."

Were she all-powerful the nation they referred to would have never fallen, crumbled, and condensed itself into the Shiraya Expanse. Strangely…Many of the survivors seemed at peace. As if they had finally found their place amongst the struggles of intergalactic politics and endless fighting. There was no wondering who they might offend for skipping a coronation. Old enemies surfaced, certainly.

Despite the grand catastrophe—Somehow, it was better.

Drawing herself from her thoughts she raised the glass and hesitantly took a small sip. It was strong. Not too intense but the honeyed aftertaste that quietly hid the acrid flavor of liquor was something to be wary of. It would be easy to imbibe too much and not realize it. Letting the glass settle back on the table she leaned back on the stool and cast Mr. Rhyne another glance. "…Am I less strange, now, with something other than water?"

"If you're worried…I can be someone else."

He had already had enough trouble for the evening. It would be easy enough to produce a slight glamor to alter her features. She didn't know how long she could keep it going with the protections Everlight had in place—But, she could manage something small. At least for a little while.

Right before the arrival of Xyoz, he had noticed the way she looked and turned to her whiskey, but any comments on it would have to wait as some strange substance was being offered to them both. Despite his initial thoughts, it wasn't meant for children, but that hardly mattered. He had been ruining his days too much with alcohol already, so getting addicted to something else was off the table.

"You both seem to be stressin, goin' into some deep, deep conversations n' whatnot. The stress of war, so they say. So here, free.. Sample, we'll call it. Have a laugh, enjoy the night."

He nodded to Xyoz Maji Xyoz Maji and briefly glanced at the vial as the Shistavanan began to leave.

"Just try and have fun, regardless. It's a club after all."

Aiden grinned and turned to Kara and sipped from his drink while his eyes remained locked, testing to see if she'd meet his gaze or look away "Well, I don't think I'm going to try this giggledust but having fun... now that's something I am here for," he shot her a mischievous smirk and followed it up with a wink before he downed the rest of his drink.

"Interested in another round? It's on me,"

His words seemed to lift her spirits up, which got him to smile. But when she talked about his argument regarding life, he narrowed his eyes a little and poked into the side of her shoulder, <I was speaking more generally...> he said but there was no time to smile or grin — he felt a familiar presence suddenly approaching.

<"Interrupting something, am I?">

He gulped and looked at Miri with widened eyes before he turned around to meet his Master with a nervous smile. Kyell now realized she had used his mind to read their telepathic messages, and he was really glad she hadn't shown up earlier. <Of course not, Master...> he said with an innocent smile she could easily see through.

<"And both of you... talk, we must. Now, some sleep, I suggest you two get. Early, tomorrow's lesson starts.">

<Yes Master...> he said with a bow of his head before Yenna Yenna decided to add a comment that turned his face bright red. <O-of course...> he flashed her a grin and watched her hop off the stool. Only when she left again, he finally turned to Miri, his face still bright red, and rubbed the back of his neck.

<You uh, think we should head back? To sleep, of course.> He said with a playful expression.

Miri’s eyes widened as their private conversation was interrupted by a third party. Initially confused by Yenna’s words, Miri’s eyes soon narrowed. Had the little green goblin been listening to their thoughts?

She rested a hand on her hip as she watched their master leave, endeavoring not to scowl after her, at least. Had she been sober, she would’ve done a better job at hiding her annoyance.

Turning back to Kyell, she sighed. <Yeah, we probably should. I just can’t wait for another lesson.> She wrapped an arm around his waist and started to head for the exit. <You’re the designated driver, I assume. Or—how many drinks did you have?...>

Kyell seemed a little amused at the air of frustration that lingered around Miri — she was clearly having a good time, so it getting interrupted the way it did was understandably annoying. But it was a little funny to see her with her hand on her hip like that.

<We'll get a taxi, it can drop us off right at the Temple...> he said before a smirk appeared, and he very quickly moved to lift her off the ground with one arm behind her back, the other holding up her legs. <You said you liked being carried, right?> he asked with a smile. <This time I didn't drop you either.>

With Miri in his arms, he walked through the exit and onto the streets, where he looked for a taxi to take them away, <You think we'll get weird looks showing up at the Temple like this?> Maybe it was a better idea to crash somewhere else.

Miri’s eyes widened as Kyell suddenly swept her off her feet, but then she got comfortable in his arms, looking rather pleased with this outcome of events.

<You said you liked being carried, right?>

<I do indeed,> she replied, throwing her arms around his neck as they walked out of the building.

The night air was cool against her skin, flushed from the alcohol. She pressed her cheek to his, enjoying the silence after being in the noisy club for so long.

<There’s always my ship,> she suggested. <Or yours. Wherever is fine, as long as we’re together.>

"The hell you talking about feet for? Is that what you're into? I don't do that anymore." Yula wrinkled her nose at his proffered hand before tossing back another shot. "Check the holonet, weirdo."

Words hardly worked on her when she was sober. Whether she was willfully misinterpreting the horned man, or actually that lost in the sauce couldn't be determined.

Yula slammed the shot glass down with a decisive clunk and gasped in satisfaction. She seemed to have a change of heart, mildly so.

"Alright, 500 credits for pictures."
