"I'm surrounded by incompetence. Ridiculous. Every single person I know cannot do their job just... right?" Turning to a soldier to her left who gave a disgruntled shrug. "Idiot." Before making a quick acrobatic to the top of one of the hulking beasts and held out her hands infront of her, closing her eyes and focusing her energy. In a flash, a spark of energy emitted from her and every living thing that was in front of her froze up and turned a golden yellow with sparkles emanating from them. Though it did not last for long, her legs began to tense up, and despite her work, it only worked on those that were hit with the initial blast. Seeing her weakness, several of them began leaping, jumping, even just attempting to directly stab her with their claws, as the soldiers behind her did their best to cover, one ended up hitting her and knocking her straight off.

Anger filled her being and it materialized in a small bubble coming from her heart and expanding outwards, white in colour and forcing the insects hurling themselves onto her off of her body. She didn't hit the ground, more softly bounced as the protection field sort of burst and a sparkle of light glittered her being. "So this is what I'm stuck with..." Under her breath..

Slowly, the machines began to come back online, eventually, their control was transferred and began to spin their weapons again, destroying the insects once more. This was going to be a long battle.

OPERATION: EMPIRE ASCENDANT

In orbit above Mygeeto

Smoke wreathed the once pristine halls, the smell of ozone and burnt flesh wafting through the recycled air. Blaster marks marred the grey-white walls alongside exposed wiring and the occasional smear of blood. The Force Hunters had managed to breach deep into the Ascendant in that mad charge, blowing past most of the forces sent to root them before becoming lost in the labyrinthine expanse of the ship's innards. They'd lost several of their own to the Ascendant marines, but there were still a good number of them left.

They could still rig this ship to blow and die in with glory and honor.

The Mandalorians advanced through the nearest hall, their movements shrouded in darkness as the lights had been snuffed out prior to their arrival. Only the emergency lights were active, bathing everything in eerie crimson light. Soon, however, that disappeared as well with a flicker and a groan of metal grinding against metal as the doors on either side of the long hall began to close of their own accord. Several of the farthest Force Hunters attempt to stay their closure, but were ultimately incapable of doing so as the mechanism within was far too powerful even for the combined strength of several adult men and women. The door sealed shut with a clatter and a groan of locks twisting and turning into place, locking them in with the darkness.

But the darkness concealed a far greater enemy. Footsteps echoed at the farthest end of the hall, heavy and laden with malign purpose.

vader.gif
Energy sprang to life, the hall once again bathed in crimson light to reveal a tall figure swaddled in black armor and cloak. His face was obscured by a horned mask, but there was no doubt about the fury that seethed behind the hidden eyes. No words were exchange, only frantic shouts of action and the sound of a dozen different guns barking all at once. The figure advanced calmly, his weapon swinging back and forth as he caught each and every blaster bolt and promptly redirected them back to their sources. The closest were killed on contact, their armors rent by their own fury, but the ones further away were able to escape death and regroup for a renewed offensive.

The figure reached out to ensnare their weapons with his will, forcefully yanking them free of their wielder's grip with casual ease and then proceeded to root their feet where they stood. His advanced quickened and in the blink of an eye he was among them, his blade lashing out to cleave apart torsos and hack off limbs. Several heads rolled from their necks and bounced awkwardly across the floor with those that were not shielded by helmet frozen in perpetual terror.

It did not take the Dark Lord long to make quick work of these Force Hunters. A joke of a name, they had engorged themselves on the murder of neophytes and in the face of a true Dark Lord's power they were as rigid reeds before a fierce gale.

Broken.

I skulked out of the barn, smiling as I heard my Master speak with the farmers. My work was done here, now it was time to go explore a certain crystal cave out on the plains of Dantooine. Borrowing my Master's speeder bike, I hit the throttle heading to my new destination. Upon arriving to the cave, I could already feel the crystals calling to me, but only one precious little princess would come with me. I, along with my Master, already had an idea in the works for a lightsaber.

Not a single word was said by Maelasi for the remainder of the journey, instead she contemplated on the task ahead. She had an inclining as to who had to die, or more why it was a necessity. Someone had betrayed their own Council, had let Force Hunters into their mix, and that could not be tolerated.

She was surprised to find Leos wanting to walk unaided, though through the Force she felt him strengthening himself for each step taken. Their approach was slower than it had originally been, but the very fact that the man who had very much appeared dead upon leaving would make a significantly stronger point if he returned of his own accord.

This time she did not walk behind, but at his side. With a purpose. Her eyes were deadset ahead when they entered the chambers, and though she was awaiting Leos' judgement she herself was pursuing the crowd in search of the one.

All seemed well and truly amazed by the sight of Leos. One shied away moreso than the rest, silent as the others bickered. He was the one, though it wasn't until Leos balked his orders that she acted upon this knowledge.

One hand lifted, and the man found himself lifted into the air as effortlessly as a feather, subtly turning full circle to face all within the room. His fellow Muun stared, but none rose to stop what was happening. Perhaps they finally realized the severity of the situation. Perhaps they finally knew that resistance was futile.

The Councillor lifted both hands to his throat and began to claw at it; his face turned red, toes twitching, yet still he fought on. Barely able to breathe, but still capable of doing so for now. Still he clawed, until thin slithers of red made themselves known. He was tearing at his own flesh. He would be his own undoing.

I could feel the radiating pulse of the crystals from even outside their domain. The pulse's rhythm had an unnatural soothing tone which I felt was annoying, and rather to bleak for my tastes. Whatever little precious gem I took here would learn quickly of corruption and my taint, then it will pulse with a haunting beat more to my liking.

I entered the cave, which was blanketed in complete darkness, and fiddled through my satchel for an illuminating tool. The light flashed brightly, but the darkness was in abundance and I could only see a few feet ahead of me; making my steps much slower than I anticipated. I had no fear of the darkness, but from my research into these caves, I discovered that certain insect like creature made them homes inside, probably drawn to the crystals thrumming sounds. Slowly I moved through the winding tunnel, feeling not only the crystals but a massive collection of living entities.

When I arrived to the main chamber, gathered all around the crystals and unformed crystal formations where literally hundreds of these insects. In unison, they all turned their attention to me. As I reached down to grab my hilt, while dropping my tool to the cavern floor, I felt a nuzzle on my hand. I didn't have to look down to know who it was. "Well 'ol gal," I said to Ostara, "You take the left and I'll take the right."

What was once an unassuming dwelling of beasts long forgotten by the world above was now a ravaged warzone flush with affluent amounts of blood, originating from man and beast alike. Neither side would halt until they lay dead or victorious. The atmosphere was oppressive, the scent of death permeated from the ancient walls, and the howls of dying men filled the dreary, desolate cavern. Limbs were tossed aside, the rest of their former bodies lost inside the belly of some dead beast. Small mounds of corpses began piling up, and Lark revealed a small, idyllic smile when he saw that there were more kinrath bodies than those of Sith soldiers. Those droids that Loveheart commanded helped turn the tide of the battle. And she had an energy to her that Lark had not witnessed before. Yes, she was interesting indeed.

For a moment the two opposing sides were on a neutral ground, but Lark could feel the battle shift towards their favor. A newborn kinrath hatched from it's egg after who knows how long of waiting, ready to join it's colony and meet it's family, if they even had that kind of meaningless bond. Lark decapitated it before it even took it's first steps, snuffing out the kinrath's life before it even truly began. It's abnormally brief life was utterly meaningless, purposeless.

But wasn't that true for all life, in the cosmic scheme of things?

Alas, Lark had no time to dwell on the philosophies of life. There was work that needed to be done. He kept an eye out for Bjorg, he hadn't seen or heard from the man since their communications cut off and he was dragged into this swarm of hellish fiends.

A deafening roar that put the cries of the other kinrath to shame echoed throughout the chamber, shaking the walls and causing small droplets of glassy water to drip from the ceiling like rain. A kinrath more than double the size of it's brethren crawled up from behind a large mound of rocks, a daunting silhouette against the glow of blaster fire. Ah, there you are, Lark thought, as the Queen of the hive approached. You're stronger than the others, aren't you? But your skin is the same. My blade will cleave through you just as smoothly as the rest. Your rule has come to an end.

A new emperor has arrived.

Muunilinst, Council Tower

Vengeance had come to join them.

Leos did everything in his power to keep himself standing perfectly upright and not show that he'd suffered grievous injury previously. His body was not fully healed and would not be for some time, but his semblance of strength was enough to unnerve many of the council members. It would do nothing but show weakness to another Sith, and he could not afford that. Knowing little about this man didn't help. If he was the type to take advantage, then he and Maelasi may soon have a fight on their hands once business was attended to. No one would dare to interfere with the dealings with the council knowing the full weight of the circle would come down upon them.

Maelasi, for her part, was performing wonderfully. She'd singled out the target he'd pointed out, lifted him from his seat, and brought him out to begin choking at him. No, worse than that, she was making him claw at his own flesh. How delightfully vindictive of her. Under normal circumstances Leos would abhor such violence, but here these Muun had sided with people who slaughtered for no reason other than hatred of the Force. Worst of all, they'd nearly killed him and his people in doing so. That alone was unforgivable. Now they would reap the just rewards of the seeds they had sown, all because of this one that Mae was slowly making to kill himself. It was terrifying, and they wouldn't soon forget this lesson.

"I don't know if the Force Hunters offered you anything. They may have only offered you fear."

His eyes turned among them.

"But what they've given you instead is a pathway to death. The Ascendancy brings order. These Mandalorian cultists bring chaos and wanton destruction. If you had chosen to hear me out rather than choose a side, you would have learned that you would have been allowed to continue your usual ways of doing things here, just while providing us resources as well. It would have been beneficial to you, and it still will be, though with greater threat for misdeeds. This one will be punished with his life, and if this happens again-" he turned his eyes to each in turn "-your life will be forfeit too."

That said, he turned his gaze to Vengeance while Maelasi worked. He'd meant it to be slow and painful, and the Muun would certainly be forced to sit and watch. With force if necessary.

"Lord Vengeance. Nice of you to join us. We're just dealing with a little nuisance here, but things should be done in short order."

Vengeance watched Maelasi work sending the intended message based on the words Ignus spoke. It was never his style to drag things out but then again it was not his show. So he said nothing save for a response to the fellow Lord.

"Apologies for the delay traffic was a little heavy coming in."

He gave Ignus a bow and a smile.

"I see that............it warms my cold cold heart and reminds me of better days."

Vengeance moved up to stand at the man's side watching the others in the room.

"Far be it for me to interfere but I can't help but contemplate the wisdom in the others sharing this ones fate. After all they did nothing to prevent or rectify this ones treachery. Afterwards the positions can be filled by wiser and more..............worthy leaders."

Vengeance was reflecting back on Glee Anselm when him and Pyrrhus took out an entire council and their security detail. A message sent and received planet wide. A smile actually formed on his lips as he thought back to it.

"Besides......."

He glanced over to Maelasi.

"..............this one seems to enjoy it almost as much as I did at her age."

After the Sith had spoke, many of the farmers nodded and began to disperse. The conversation was done, and the offer was something many would have to think upon. Yet some remained, having made their decision. One, a mother of two, stepped forward with one of her children in her arms and the other standing beside her. "I would like to take you up on that offer. I can't be out in the fields as often as I'd like, and with the right tools I won't have to, right?"

There was a nod from the Zabrak as he smiled at the woman. "Yes of course. I can get a representative down here to discuss with you what you would need and your long term goals for your family. What time works best for you?" And that was all it took. One willing to trust, and soon others, her friends and their friends, walked over to the Sith to hear more of the details.

The Farmers had fallen in line.

With a sweep of my left hand, I shoved the insects on the right back; turning them into bumbling fools and giving me much needed distance. Drinking up the dark side energy surrounding me, I extended my right hand first, unleashing a wave of Sith Lightening at the nearest insect, then did the same wit my left to another. My ability to command this ability had grown in power, but it wouldn't kill another person or alien unless I continuously poured energy into them. However, the insects were more fragile than people and aliens, thus the two insects died immediately. From the corner of my eye, I saw my companion, Ostara, using hit and run tactics on the insects; preventing them from surrounding her and overwhelming the fur baby.

I drew my hilt out, ignited the lightwhip end and slashed it out in front of me, killing the first wave of insects that righted their stumbling; then as the remaining hoard were drawing closer, I switched out the whip for the blade itself. With method-like calculated strikes and slashes, I began to cut down my enemies; leaving a trail of broken insect carcasses in my wake.

They had stemmed the tide of boarders, pushing them further back towards the breach. The dead began to pile so high that they had become barricades and defensive fixtures for both sides, and the tide of war consistently shifted as gains and losses were interchanged; further redrawing the lines. The hall was slick with blood and gore, the air punctured by the screams of the dying and the harsh belching of blaster fire.

Then all went quiet, the Imperials seemed to be pulling back. Canisters of smoke were flung across no man's land to cover their withdrawal, the hall now clogged with thick plumes of smog that obscured the Force Hunter's vision. They switched on thermals only to see the hall before them empty, but they did not advance. The Imperial's withdrawal with strange, they had the Force Hunters completely against the wall and were even threatening to push them back onto the ramship, but for no discernable reason they stopped.

The reason why became abundantly apparent.

The sound of marching heralded their arrival, followed by the smoke swirling as it parted to reveal a line of black-clad soldiers armed with hexagonal energy shields several ranks thick moving down the hall towards them. All attempts to slow their methodical advance were futile, the energy shields protected the soldiers from being hit by enemy fire but it allowed them to poke the end of their own rifles out through the energy surface and return fire. Eventually the Force Hunters would be forced to take refuge within the breach they had made, and that was when the Blackblade advance stopped completely in its tracks. As they did the vicinity around the breach was enclosed by ray shields, trapping the Force Hunters in the breach.

Outside of the Star Destroyer a trio of TIE Liberators banked around the Ascendant's starboard flank, coming within view of the ramship still anchored to the underside of the warship. They lined themselves up towards the ramship, and at once unleashed a barrage of concussive missiles right at it. The impact tore through metal and ripped the ramship free, explosions rippling through it as it hemorrhaged out into the void.

"All too easy," she stated, looking down at the stunned and trussed up laigreks. Still, the work was not done by a long shot. Her Master would insist that the entire nest be taken, including the likely eggs there. Unhatched laigreks, embryos, freshly hatched babies. All of them would be useful for her Master's experiments. Eldaah signaled for half the squad to take the captured specimens back to the extraction point while the rest would follow her and the Festerers to where the nest was. perhaps they might even capture a queen laigrek.

She commanded the Festerers through the dark side to encircle the nest so they could attack it from all sides. That was when several more deadly laigreks loomed out of the infrared darkness and darted towards them. Perhaps they had been alerted to the plight of the others or were investigating the intrusion into their barrow. She didn't care. Stun bolts and nets filled the air again, helped along by Eldaah sending out a powerful expression of her will to crush the laigreks' motivation to avoid the attacks from her forces.

Maelasi did not waver, not for one moment. She remained stood with her hand raised, eyes fixated on the Muun who was at this point frantically clawing at his neck. It was a horrific sight, truth be told, streaks of blood flowing down and soaking into his shirt, but she refused to look away. Steel eyed. Stern expression. No weakness. They had to realize that this would be the fate of any other who sought to work against them, against their own kind even, alongside the Force Hunters.

She heard Leos' voice, and though she could sense the pain he did not show it in his tone. He remained strong, assertive, and none within the crowd tried to speak against him. The newcomer, a man she had yet to meet, suggested the same fate for them all. Maelasi did not agree with his line of thought. These Muun were skilled in their jobs, they had been running this world well for Force knew how long... You couldn't simply replace them, not all of them at least. Some like the one dangling overhead you could, it was a necessary sacrifice.

But they did not have the time to train new Councillors... And employing a bunch of yes men would do no good either. The last thing they needed was a world to micromanage.

Of course Maelasi said nothing. She would not speak out against a Sith Lord even if she wanted to... And besides, the fate of the remaining was in Leos' hands, not Vengeance's.

Chairman Ols Pacath had known long in advance that this was going to be a stressful day. What day involving Sith and Mandalorian factions vying for power didn't cause stress? Muunilinst had known nothing but Sith and Mandalorian rule these past years. Sith for a while, then it was Mandalorians. Before that there had been the Primeval, which had been the worst for a whole lot of reasons, but they all got through it. Banking never dies. But now it was Sith again, like someone out there was spinning a big, stupid wheel that showed who got to rule this sector next... And none of the factions that didn't have a reputation for mass murder were on the damn thing.

But really, Mandalorian regimes tended to be more profitable. Mandalorians had no concept of financial regulation. Makes moving money around easier, makes it easier to collect on big debts because a big federal government isn't around to whine about basic human rights. The Sith tended to put a tighter clamp on things. Not because they cared, they just didn't want anyone who wasn't them making any good money. Ols wasn't looking forward to the change. That was why he and everyone else had gotten most of their "extra-curricular" financial activities wrapped up before today. Ols had shrewdly stayed away from Mygeeto and opted out of that current council meeting. Someone had already texted him that there was an assassination attempt or something. Now someone was getting strangled. He'd read the details later.

Meanwhile, all Ols had done today was visit the office. Make sure nobody important killed themselves. Now he was back at his house, where he would retire to his study and enjoy a glass of wine over a documentary about... He hadn't decided yet. The one exposing the horrors of the Twi'lek slave trade sounded novel, but what he really wanted to watch was the one about the drinking water scandal in Mariunhus, This wasn't some backwater planet, this was the financial capitol of the galaxy! And yet the Muuns over in Mariuhus were turning on their taps to brackish water. It was disgusting. Someone ought to do something.

He quietly closed the door behind him quietly to avoid tipping off his wife. She probably had too many questions he did not have answers to, and when he didn't have answers she frequently just got increasingly more hysterical. He loved the woman, but some days were better spent outside of earshot. Ols crept quietly through the large house, heading for his study. He checked once over his shoulder before opening the door and slinking inside. The lights automatically reacted to his presence, switching on courtesy of a sensor he had installed.

Imagine his surprise when the illumination revealed a strange, stern-looking striped man sitting at his desk already.

"I work with idiots. All of you are idiots. I don't know who any of you are, but you're being ridiculous" Climbing aboard the droid she had recently fallen off of, and now facing the troops behind her who were giving a worried stare and one-by-one stopped firing their blasters as a hulking beast made her approach from behind. "LOOK. You can't even shoot for yourselves and you need me to give you an order to do it?" Though they were no longer paying attention to her, but rather the Queen that was slamming her claws into stragglers at the front who were unfortunate enough to think this battle would be ended quickly.

"Go ahead. Shoot them."

None of them moved.

She stomped her foot down and the ground shook. "I haven't put on that much weight.. have I?" Looking down to her stomach. Comically, she turned around and was met with a set of claws making a cut for her chest.

"Oh my god"

In a rushed manner, she did whatever she could to stop it from outright slaughtering her right on the spot. Jumping off of the droid to leave it to either be dismantled or burn the thing to smithereens, but the claw didn't stop coming. Mid-air, she just did the safest bet she could and propelled an energy shield to cause the creature's leg to simply spike off and send it back, but it was shattered as soon as it formed, but managed to stop the momentum enough for the central computer to calculate an approach of attack. Not using its actual weapon but now slamming the creature, who was putting up an even fight, the two were in a stale mate of titans, at least in comparison to their respective allies.

Muunilinst, Council Tower

"No."

That was Leos' answer to what Vengeance had said. While killing one of these cretins was warranted, killing the lot of them was not. They had not invited the Force Hunters there, only the one that was now ripping his flesh from his body had done that. The others had been unwittingly thrust into a battle they could not foresee the consequences of. It wasn't a gamble. They'd likely been threatened. That was how Mandalorians operated, to his understanding. They had to go along with it or die, and they'd faced death either way. At least with accepting the Force Hunters demands they'd had a chance of surviving. He could not fault them for seeking to live, and being manipulated by one of their own.

His orange eyes turned to Maelasi and he nodded to her. She would understand that it was safe to end the Muun's life at this point. Enough had been done to sow fear into the hearts of the rest of the council. It was becoming a petty show at this point, and wasting valuable time.

"Nobody but this one will die here today. Only he was responsible for this mess."

As he turned his body back to the council, he staggered a little, nearly falling, but managed to right himself. His body was not alright, and he knew this. When all was said and done, and Maelasi could help him back to the ship, he would be bedridden for a while. At least he'd have her there for company. Being alone was a terrible feeling that he never wished to endure again in his life. He took a deep breath, though, and steadied himself as his orange eyes looked over the gathered Muun. They had the authority to see to it that things were taken care of in this matter, and he intended to make sure that it happened just as it needed to. For that, they needed these ones, not a fresh crop of council members.

"You will submit your worlds to membership of the Ascendancy, and you will banish all Mandalorian's not aligned with the current Mand'alor from your space. You will provide us resources and favorable loans. In return, we will allow you to continue your banking with the rest of the galaxy uninterrupted, no matter who it is you are working with, and we will protect your worlds. Do you accept?"

The eyes of most were still upon the one of them dying, but the speaker eventually managed to turn his eyes to him and nod his head.

"We- we accept."

"Good. Welcome to the Ascendancy."

Vengeance nodded clearly neither surprised nor disappointed by the response Ignus gave. It was a calculated move on Vengeance's part. It cemented Ignus' position as the Lord the Muunilist people wanted to work with. When presented with the option of either a reasonable man or an executioner the reasonable man was always preferred.

"As you wish."

Vengeance slowly paced the room a small smile on his face watching the faces around the room. Feeling the tornadoes of emotions swirling around the room. It was a feeling he had not felt in a very long time and one he wanted to hold on to. He was also trying not to focus on the physical condition of his fellow Lord. His instinct was to help the man but he knew it was the last thing Ignus wanted and Vengeance knew that. In tense negotiations like these Ignus needed to appear to be invincible and indestructible. Weakness could be exploited and manipulated. Beside if he was in the man's position he would feel the same way.

The nod was all that Mae needed. She closed her outstretched hand into a fist and a resounding crack marked the end of her task. The Muun's hands flopped to his side, blood dripping from his fingertips, before his body slowly descended out of sight.

Mae gave one subtle glance to a member of the Vermillion Guard, and the limp body was dragged away. None of the Councillors really noticed, they were too transfixed with what Leos had to say. Grateful that he hadn't agreed with this newcomer's suggestion.

Only now did she turn her head to look upon the Sith who had joined them. No, not a face she had seen before but that was no surprise. Maelasi knew very few Sith by name let alone by sight. She inclined her head respectfully toward him. Whether he had done so intentionally or not, he helped the Muun in their decision. Comply or die.

Probably the wisest decision the Council had made since their arrival.

Muunilinst, Council Tower

So it was done, then. They'd agreed to submit themselves to the Ascendancy, as was right. Their foolish attempt to stop the Ascendancy had failed, and in turn the one responsible had been punished. Maelasi finished him off swiftly, which he approved of, and one of the Vermilion's went to take care of his dead body. If you make a mess, you clean it up. They could easily have left the Muun to deal with it, but that wasn't what the Ascendancy was about. They'd promised the Muun near autonomy in return for their services and favor. A gracious usurper was likely to be taken more in stride than a brutal one. Cleaning up after their own mess would indicate to the Muun that they would treat them with respect, if it was returned.

His eyes settled on Vengeance.

"If you would, Lord Vengeance, could you see to making the proper preparations with the Muun. They'll need communications access to the circle and the like, and we'll need to associate them with proper military channels. I'm sure you can handle it. I, however, have another matter to attend to."

Chiefly his physical well-being. He turned his eyes to Maelasi and nodded his head to her in approval, before he started to walk out of the chamber. His role in the immediate turn of events was over, thank the fates. He would never thank the Force again after it tried to suck him into its pit of misery. Instead, he settled for the fates, as was customary where he was from anyway. His gate was steady, but certainly slower than it would normally be. Hopefully no one would make a foolish assumption that he was easy prey. Maelasi would have to kill someone else if that was the case. For now he settled on the prospect of a quiet retreat back to the ship in orbit, with decent company instead of darkness.

Vengeance would smile and nod in response to Maelasi before turning to Ignus as the request was made.

"I will see it done."

Vengeance gave the man a small bow as he departed assuming Maelasi would follow. Once they were gone he turned to the council.

"Ok moving on. I need your communications person and your best engineer. Also get me your military commander. Once all those people are present I need a room to be dedicated as a Command and Control center."

He paused letting his requests sink in and people begin moving.

"This area will need to be the most heavily defended area of this building. If your communications are compromised then all of your defenses are compromised. This includes setting up a watch rotation with your most trusted people."

Vengeance paused and waited. Surely these people would move like their life depended on it. After all Ignus said nobody would die today. He said nothing about not subjecting them to a pain they had never felt before.
