Ossus Academy Padawans

Jedi Academy

Fletcher had gone back to the Jedi Academy on Ossus after being sent there by his master when she feared a mission was too dangerous. He'd argued against it but obviously she got the final word. It was nice to come back to the Academy every so often, it was one of the few places he had a connection with as he'd spent most of his adolescent life at the Academy with the clan he grew up with. He missed his clan at times as they were the only other teenagers and children he'd grown up with after he left home. They almost replaced his family.

Wandering out into the courtyard, lost in thought, Fletcher looked around at the lush greenery that surrounded the Academy. Ossus wasn't that different from his home planet, Naboo. Both had large forest and mountain terrains, though Ossus had a much larger human population wheras on Naboo there were four times as many Gungans as people. It wasn't that long since he was last here but the sudden absence from the Academy was somewhat sincere.

He figured he might as well train while he was here rather than waste the time he had.

Jedi Academy
Ossus

Dair was sitting beneath a tree, lost in thought, in the courtyard. Absently, he rubbed at his wrists as he stared up at the clouds, trying to connect the disparate memories of his far away and forgotten home with anything concrete. The masters and instructors were worried about him, so much darkness was done to Dair over his history that they were worried that he would fall to darkness. Dair knew that to not be the case. A decade of abuse, torture and degradation were enough for him. He wasn't even the slightest bit interested in succumbing to the anger that he felt deep down at the people who did that to him. Even before he started his training with the Jedi, he held the belief that the only way out of misery and darkness was by holding on to hope and light. He wouldn't go so far as to say that he would forgive the transgressions those men and women had done to him, but if he saw them today or anytime hereafter, he wouldn't be tempted to exact revenge.

Dair was stirred from his reverie by the sight of another young padawan entering the courtyard. A smile split Dair's face and he stood up, walking over to the young man. [member="Fletcher Lorcan"] had been in his Youngling clan when Dair had been brought to Ossus. A few years younger than Dair, they still had become good friends. A circle of them had formed within the youngling clan, clan Bear, and Dair was quite happy to see him.

"Fletcher!" Dair said, slightly above normal conversational volume. He started toward the young Jedi. "What brings you back to Ossus so soon?"

Fletcher hesitated for a moment, wondering who was calling him after he didn't recognise the voice. Then he turned around and there was a flash of recognition on his face. It was one of the old younglings from his clan, Dair. Fletcher had been good friends with almost all the members of their youngling clan. There were only about ten to fifteen students and when you spent all your time with them, you could hardly not be their friends. Though of course he was more familiar with some than others.

It was sad having to leave your clan if you got chosen to be a padawan, it was like a piece of childhood that you don't want to leave behind, and you knew full well that the people you'd grown up with could just as easily die on real missions. Fletcher felt that his childhood came and went before he even knew it.

"Dair!" he called back, smiling. "Oh my master thought a mission was too dangerous, but she's just being over protective. There isn't a mission I can't handle." he said, having grown into arrogance since he became a padawan.

Dair grinned and stopped roughly a meter away from Fletcher.

"From what I am to understand, overprotective comes with taking a padawan." Dair said. "What do you plan to do while you wait for your Master?"

Fletcher smiled and sighed. "So I've figured."

He usually had freedom on missions but he sometimes abused his trust and disobeyed orders.

"Well I was going to train with a lightsaber some more, do you want to duel me? Only to disarm, of course."

[member="Dair Cotarin"] [member="Uri Aureleos"] [member="Krafurk Maris"] [member="Sayl Bane"]

"Sure thing!" Dair replied and looked around, "Are we allowed to do it in the courtyard, or should we go to one of the training circles?"

[member="Fletcher Lorcan"] | [member="Uri Aureleos"] | [member="Krafurk Maris"] | [member="Sayl Bane"]

"Hm, probably a training circle, just to be on the safe side." Fletcher said, indicating with his head for Dair to follow as he walked from the courtyard and towards the training circles.

"It's good to see you again." he smiled at Dair.

Uri spent a rare moment at the training grounds practicing Alchaka, a series of rigorous and personal exercises done during meditation that used both physical and Force skills. He found himself practicing it more here lately since the force was now back to what he considered as normal. Alchaka helped to clear Uri's mind and strengthen his connection to the force. A connection that he ignored for the longest time after returning to Ossus from visiting so many planets that were plagued but the rapture. He had seen more evil in that short time than he had in his whole life but he chose to go. He chose to protect and to be by his master's side when she would allow him. Uri still wasn't 100% back to how he was before the event but he imagined he never would be.

He didn't pay much mind to anything else other than the force but kept himself aware of those around him. He eventually senses the signature of his friend and fellow padawan under his master and... another signature. One he hadn't felt in a long time. Uri opened his eyes then fixed them on the two boys heading somewhat in his direction. A smile raised on Uri's faced as he finally confirmed the other boy. Fletcher. Uri reached out with the force giving them both a nudge. Uri then grinned even wider and crossed his arms in front of him.

Fletcher stopped and looked over his shoulder towards [member="Uri Aureleos"] after sensing the boy's presence. He smiled and called out to him. "Hey!"

It had been so long since he'd been with his former clan members, but they were almost like a family to him,

"Do you want to train with us? I bet you ten credits I can take you both on in a duel." he smirked at the boys.

[member="Dair Cotarin"]

Uri got a sudden nostalgic feeling from being with friends and clanmates. He was just a small boy then and yet they were still similar in size. Dair was the largest, Fletcher the smallest, and Uri was nestled neatly between the two. Together once again and the thought of such a duel made Uri excited. He had experienced something similar before. He didn't remember Fletcher being so cocky but then again that was a while ago. Things change when you hit the teenage years.

Uri closed the gape between them then bit on the tip of his thumb, "We're jedi. Credits mean little to nothing. I say we up the stakes." His thoughts went back to when he had once recommend that masters bet their light sabers but he wasn't willing to do so at the moment. "Last man standing get to make the other two do a dare... Nothing too crazy of course."

Timeline note just to clarify: This takes place before Sayl left the Ession Jedi and before her twin (Sage) became Sith, which is why she'll refer to him in the context of being a Jedi.

Ossus was a planet Sayl had never set foot on, and now that she was here, she wasn't entirely sure what to think. Just from a glance it was nearly the polar opposite of all that encompassed Nal Hutta, the planet that she and her twin brother had called home for much of their childhood and some of their adult life as well. It was those dirty, crime-ridden streets she had long called home, and it still she found herself having to adjust to the pristine surroundings that came with the title of being Jedi by any Order's name. It was all largely unfamiliar to her, and she wasn't entirely sure just yet how accustomed she wanted to become with it all.

Where the others were likely familiar with each other, having trained together since young childhood most likely, she was alienated, her joining of the Jedi having taken place at a much later date. But it wasn't a feeling she entirely minded. Surviving alone was a talent she had quickly mastered, and the lesson she'd learned quickly was that the best person to watch her back was herself. Anyone else just wound up getting in the way. It wasn't the best mindset to have, being a supposed Jedi and all, but there was no better philosophy to live by, in her mind. Making it alone was preferable to dying with friends, when it came to life on the streets, and much of the same creed carried over here.

Her eyes flashed briefly crimson, a telltale sign of her Chiss blood, and she toyed with her lip ring with her teeth, simply wandering about the Academy grounds. This wasn't a place for her, when one got right down to it. In every sense she was the opposite of what a Jedi was to be; impulsive and rash where she was supposed to be thoughtful, far less than the picture of peaceful many painted and the furthest from the typical obedient student one could get. And that was just the way she liked it. Better to stay who she was, instead of becoming what others thought was best for her. It wasn't as if she planned on sticking around long enough to really learn all that much, anyway.

No one here knows how to have any fun.

"When you say nothing too crazy..." Dair's thought process faded off as he caught sight of a young woman walking in the courtyard a few meters away. He could have sworn that he saw her eyes flash red for a moment, but that is only what drew his gaze in the first place. What kept it there was the fact that she was quite beautiful and had an attitude about her that he hadn't seen from anyone at the temple before. Before he knew it, he was stopped and almost staring. He caught himself before their eyes could meet and he looked back towards his friends.

'What was I doing?' he thought to himself as he looked between his friends and the new girl.

Fletcher followed Dair's gaze with his own. "What are you looking at?" he saw the girl and looked back at Dair. "Oh." he rolled his eyes and laughed, grabbing the boys by the sleeves and starting to drag them towards the training circles.

"Want to duel?" he called to the girl, still attempting to drag the two boys. It had been so long since they had trained together, it was something he missed.

[member="Dair Cotarin"] [member="Sayl Bane"] [member="Uri Aureleos"]

Uri looked past the girl. Not that he didn't notice her, he just didn't notice her in the way Dair did. He was rather stupid when it came to girls and feelings. He grew up in a monastery and had never even heard a woman laugh until arriving on Ossus. When some one would make a comment about a female. His first thought was usually something along the lines of 'yeah that's a woman. So what?' He never had a crush and had never been kissed. He didn't see the importance of it. Maybe he was such in the old ways. Maybe he was just too focused on training.

As Fletcher grabbed him by the sleeve he started walking along, not needing to be dragged, but he made no effort to tug away. A smile graced his face as Fletcher invited the girl to join them in their sparring. He gave a light bow himself, "I'm Uri. The tall guy is Dair. The short guy is Fletcher." Uri smiled then laughed lightly.

[member="Fletcher Lorcan"] [member="Dair Cotarin"] [member="Sayl Bane"]

"Short guy?" he said as he stuck his elbow into Uri's side. He shook his head, smiling. "Come on then, I'll take you right here, right now, just for that." he smirked, taking the lightsaber into his hand.

He wasn't very good at observing how other people felt or behaved and was completely oblivious to Dair's dazed reaction to the girl. The three of them were much more different from when they were younger and Fletcher couldn't be sure if it was normal for him to behave like that around girls.

Life on the streets meant many things, one of the most prevalent and useful tools at her disposal being the ability to feel other's eyes on her without having to turn her head or change her pace. It wasn't through the Force Sayl accessed the ability, though that certainly would have heightened it. No, it was honed through years of having no one else but herself to watch her back, coupled with a few less than pleasant encounters that had ended in violence simply because there was no other way to resolve the situation. It was likely the energy field had something to do with it, but she would credit her skill first to herself before she turned to any ethereal skill.

It took mere seconds for her to locate the source of that sixth sense tingling, a group of three men that looked to be around her age and students as well, from a cursory glance. Given pause for a moment at the offer the apparent youngest of the three - Fletcher - she altered her path to merge with theirs, matching pace. "If you're looking to spar I'll take you on - unarmed." No stranger to a number of street fights that were oftentimes necessary for survival, she was confident in her capacity to hold her own against any of them. It would perhaps take some maneuvering with the tallest of the three, but she'd manage. There was a reason she was still standing after living on Nal Hutta for the majority of her life, after all.

Her dark gaze cut to the man she'd noticed watching her earlier, Dair if memory served correctly. "See somethin' you like? Take a picture, it'll last longer." Shortly thereafter she flashed a half-smile that was teasing in nature, making it clear that she'd meant the rhetorical inquiries mostly in jest. In the past she'd been subject to a few rather unwanted attentions from males of varying species, and had developed a sort of subconscious self-defense mechanism to it in the way of sarcastic comments that had the potential to be received in a variety of ways. She wasn't looking to impress, or even make friends, not really.

Almost as if in afterthought she added, "Oh, and the name's Sayl."

[member="Fletcher Lorcan"], [member="Uri Aureleos"], [member="Dair Cotarin"]

Uri grinned at how Fletcher reacted to his jest. He laughed even, as he was itching for lightsaber combat, but he mentioned of unarmed combat peaked Uri's interest so much that quickly drew his attention away. His eyes lit up at the challenge. She had to know a thing or two if she was going to recommend it. Uri let an awkward smirk grace his face. He was sure Fletcher and Dair might remember he was a monk back on Agamar, but he almost sure he had never told them he was martial arts trained. It wasn't something he just told anyone. His unarmed combat was strictly self defense.

"I'll take the challenge," Uri replied quickly to Sayl then remembered that Fletcher wanted his attention first. Uri turned slightly and smiled sheepishly at his friend. "Uhhh... what about teams?You and her? Me and Dair?" He snapped his fingers at an idea. "If someone is tagged the match changes between unarmed and lightsaber. It will help to... keep us on our toes so to speak."

Dair blushed furiously at having been caught. He looked around and tried to think about something to say. His mind was fogged for some reason.

'What the kark, I'm not Uri. I wasn't raised in a monastery.' he thought to himself. Her smirk softened the blow and he did an awkward half-bow when she introduced herself. Thankfully, Uri's idea was outlandish enough to bring him out of his fugue. He turned to his friend and grinned.

"How do you come up with these ideas, Uri?" he asked as they neared a grouping of training circles. Some of them were occupied, but the group of padawans didn't have any issue finding an empty one. "I'm in for Uri's bout, what do you both think?"

Dair looked to both Fletcher and Sayl, trying hard to not bush again when he looked to Sayl.
