Ossus Academy Padawans

"I'm in, lets do it." he said, dropping his robe to the floor. He hoped the other boys were bad at unarmed combat and almost relied solely on it as Fletcher wasn't too good himself. He wasn't very strong and often didn't have a lot of energy to maintain fighting without weapons. If he lost his lightsaber in a fight, he'd probably die or get captured as it was his strongest combat, even his force powers weren't very strong.

Fletcher ignited his blue lightsaber and wandered into the empty circle. "Come on Uri. You're gonna regret that." he said, smirking at [member="Uri Aureleos"].

"On our toes, huh?" That was certainly one way to put it. "I'm down. But it's not any fun without something riding on it all." There were a few ideas she could think of off the top of her head, but Sayl wasn't sure those stakes she was used to would be so openly welcomed by these three. They were, after all, Jedi, and therefore expected to keep up appearances whether on Temple grounds or not. It didn't make for much fun, in her opinion, but rules were rules, even if she was an expert at breaking them most times. "What do you guys think? Any ideas?" Her dark gaze strayed briefly, and purposefully, to Dair with a half-smile.

With a raised eyebrow she regarded Fletcher as he stepped into the ring, igniting his saber in the next moment, shedding the outer robes he wore. Briefly she considered her own similar attire with a slight thoughtful frown. It certainly wasn't ideal, but she would have to make do. It would be her first time in any sort of combat scenario while wearing the robes, but there was a first time for everything. Assuming things went at least marginally well, it shouldn't impede her all that much. But there was a reason she often preferred tighter fitting clothing: practicality.

"It's us up next, then." Once more her eyes flickered crimson, this time an intentional move on her part, more so just to see how he reacted to it occurring quite literally right in front of him. "Think you got what it takes?" A friendly but still taunting smile overtook her features, and she shrugged nonchalantly. This was nothing short of just another day, in her eyes. Well, except perhaps for the Jedi aspect. Almost average.

Once again, the fair skinned face flushed in response to...a smile. Flabbergasted, he decided to let it happen and returned a smile to the young woman. Being a teenager in his prime, his thoughts strayed to ideas that were of a flavor that some would consider to be un-jedi like. He didn't voice any of them, and he couldn't know if his thoughts were readable on his face or his posture.

His hand did stray to his saber hilt when he heard [member="Fletcher Lorcan"] light his off. The instant after his reaction, he settled back into a calm pose. He removed his outer robes as well, letting them pile at his feet, then kicking them off to the side. Beneath, he wore black trousers tucked into functional brown boots. His tunic was a short sleeved variety that wrapped over itself and was belted with his utility belt. Unconsciously, he began to ready different muscle groups by tightening and loosening them without movement. It was a trick he'd learned as a slave and had stuck with him as it allowed him to ready himself without giving anything away to an unskilled observer.

"Well, I think it fair to say I'm up for any wagers." he finally spoke as he stepped up to the edge of the training ring, but did not step in. He cast a furtive glance at [member="Sayl Bane"] and smiled again.

"I think I may surprise you, Sayl." Dair said as he met her eyes. This time the blush was smaller, and he didn't break eye contact. The flash of red in her eyes was met with a single raised eyebrow and a small grin. "And I can admit that I will probably be surprised as well."

Uri shrugged when asked how he came up with the ideas. In truth, ideas simply came and went. He didn't know what triggered the ideas. He was excited for a spar however. Even more so after seeing how excited Fletcher was at facing him. They went one-on-one before right? Uri couldn't remember. Probably when they were younglings but not any time recently. Uri smiled back at Fletcher. Not like Fletcher's smirk but still mischievously as he rolled up his sleeves up. Unlike the other padawans, Uri didn't wear the outer robes they seemed more cumbersome then practical. Why was he rolling up his sleeves? That was for Uri to know and Fletcher to find out.

"Losers get to be the winners personal assistants for a whole week. If a command can be given it must be followed as long as it doesn't go against the code," With that Uri took one of his light sai of his belt. The odd looking fork in his hand. He watched everyone's reaction to it but most importantly fletcher. He ignited the orange blades. The longest springing forward first then the two prongs on the side. It wasn't as long as a regular lightsaber but Uri knew how to use it. He pointed it to the ground in front of his right foot. His left hand sitting in front of his right shoulder as a guard. From there he waited patiently for Fletcher to make the first move.

Fletcher took an Ataru stance and smiled at Uri. "Deal. You're on." he said, watching at the Padawan's hand went to his belt and revealed a light sai. Fletcher's jaw dropped as he stared at the three orange blades, he had never seen anything like it. It didn't look very complex but still looked more threatening than an ordinary lightsaber. It was clearly something unique. Fletcher wasn't quite sure how to plan an attack on such a weapon, anything he thought of could be easily counter acted by the other blade, or at least that's what he thought. The Padawan wasn't much for strategies anyway, rather brute force, which was something he had been warned about before, something that could be used against him.

Without even bothering to attempt tactics or a strategy, one of his main problems, the Padawan leapt forwards without warning and slashed his lightsaber downwards at the opponent's hilt in an offensive attack aimed to disarm. He was determined to win and not become anyone's personal assistant. Besides he had to be the best at this, it was his strongest skill and he was confident about it. He was proud of the skills he had gained with his lightsaber and saw it as one of his greatest achievements. Which would all the more contribute to his frustration and anger if he were to fail.

Dair watched with interest as [member="Uri Aureleos"] and [member="Fletcher Lorcan"] began their part of the duel. He snuck a glance over at [member="Sayl Bane"], but kept most of his attention on the pair in the ring. He was trying to memorize their combat maneuvers, as the instructors had told him to do at every opportunity.

"Oh, you want surprises, huh?" Now Sayl was dancing the line between teasing him and flirting, something she did purposefully and with little effort on her part. It wouldn't take long for anyone with even a single brain cell to determine that [member="Dair Cotarin"] had some sort of feelings for her, and they were, for once, reciprocated on her part. It was rare for her to really open herself up to something like this so easily, given her past, but she could tell he was relatively harmless. After all, he was a Jedi. Then again, she was supposed to be one to. Supposed to be being the key word. "I think I can manage surprises quite well." She couldn't help but wink with that final statement. Speaking of un-Jedi like behavior...

Stepping up to the edge of the ring just as Dair did, she gently bumped into him, rather purposefully, her mischievous smile the only hint that it had been an intentional move on her part. Otherwise her gaze remained on [member="Fletcher Lorcan"] and [member="Uri Aureleos"], studying their unique fighting styles intently and with the eye of one that had witnessed many a street fight in the past. To say she was unaccustomed to any sort of formal combat would be an understatement. Her idea of a 'fair fight' included any underhanded tactics that she was lucky enough to get by with, coupled with exploiting any weaknesses obvious in her opponent. Whatever allowed her to win.

"You shouldn't just stare and tease me like that. It's more fun to act now and think about the consequences later." This comment was muttered under her breath so that only Dair would hear, and she raised an eyebrow, already challenging his reply.

Dair coughed and blushed a little as he caught her wink. He couldn't help but smile as he watched the other boys begin their fight. He rocked slightly, when Sayl bumped into him. This time his smile wasn't embarrassed but happy. He thought he felt some reciprocal feelings from her, but for once he was trying to tune out his natural empathy. He didn't have a great deal of experience with emotions like these and didn't want to read to much into them.

Dairs eyebrow rose of its own volition as he turned his head slightly to look at Sayl. "Uhm..." Dair was struck speechless, his heart thudded in his ears and he couldn't for the life of him think of what she wanted him to do. "What do you mean?" His voice was lowered as well, to a soft, bassy whisper and his face spoke of his sheer ignorance of what to do.

Fletcher was headstrong at least. Uri gave him that. He played right into Uri's game of defense not giving Uri too much of a wait surprising him a little even. Only little... Being raised as a monk Uri was a pacifist. He wouldn't openly strike Fletcher nor would he attack first. This is not what he was taught. Instead he was taught how to defend himself. Defend and subdue. There was no reason for one to let their assailant make more than the first move. Fletcher wasn't an assailant however. He was a friend... Defend and practice then? Maybe he should have picked a different stance.

A downward slash. Fletcher was making this easy for Uri. All he had to do was step inward and out from under the blade using his free hand to defect and maybe grab at his wrist then he could come in with the forked sai torque it into his arm and then force fletcher to into sub... no bad Uri. Practice. Against his better judgement he was going to actually attempt lightsaber play dispite that nagging little voice in his mind saying end it quick. Uri lifted his arm as he stepped forward. Blocking and pushing the enemy saber to his side with the sai as he move himself up next to Fletcher. From here he could go with a well placed kick or punch but instead Uri centered Fletcher with his shoulder throwing his weight behind it and hoping to use Fletch's forward momentum would add on to the shoulder bash.

Fletcher knew of Uri's past and he knew how the boy was raised and under what morals. It was something that he could inevitably use against the other Padawan. However, his past wasn't exactly private and it was well known that he took risks in combat, even from a young age. He flashed a confident smile at Uri before almost being knocked over by the sheer force of the attack.

The Padawan stumbled backwards but managed to regain his footing before he had the chance to completely collapse. He rushed forwards and slashed the lightsaber at Uri's wrist, getting carried away in the fight. He was aware that he would probably be the only one making the offensive attacks since Uri's background permitted him to do so. He knew the pair were more or less evenly matched but decided to tease the other boy anyway, and besides he saw himself as the better fighter anyway.

"You're not so good at this, are you?" he teased, gripping the lightsaber hilt and attacking the other boy with precision, leaning forwards and attacking the hilt in attempt to disable the weapon rather than to harm the owner. His first attack would usually be to cut off the opponent's weapon hand but he knew he couldn't do that now, not in a spar. Having to radically change what little tactics he had, he spent more of his time attacking rather than defending like he should have.

It seemed that Dair really, truly didn't know what to do in a situation such as this. Where such a thing would have irritated her had this been a different sort of scenario, it only made things more amusing. Normally she was one to be entirely straightforward with things, having little patience for those that couldn't or wouldn't keep up to speed. This wasn't much different, though she would be kinder when it came to helping him along and pointing out which cues meant what. After all, unlike her, he'd likely been raised in some semblance of a Jedi Temple, knowing no life other than this. In contrast she lived on the streets for the majority of her childhood, her morality skewed by such an experience to say the least.

His blush only caused her grin to widen. The purely innocent ignorance of how to navigate a conversation such as this was captivating, in a sense, to her. Maybe this was one that she could trust to stick with her beyond getting what he wanted and leaving her the next day. Past experience told her the complete opposite, and she was leaning towards trusting it rather than what her senses were saying at this very moment. That, however, didn't mean she couldn't have her own idea of fun. And if something more happened of it, then that was all the better. But for the moment she would take things slowly, something uncharacteristic of her. But it was best to move at such a pace, especially with the others around.

Sayl would take it slow when it came to the romance aspect, but there were other things she could exploit in the meantime. Namely his uncertainty of just what to do with himself. "That depends on just what you're thinking." She raised an eyebrow in return, sidling closer to him, letting their hands brush together for the shortest of seconds. Almost... "But I might have an idea or two to help you along." Standing on her tiptoes, she reached up a hand to curl around the back of his head, gently pulling him down to press their lips together for a few long, lingering seconds, lowering herself with a painstaking slowness. There.

Standing on her tiptoes, she reached up a hand to curl around the back of his head, gently pulling him down to press their lips together for a few long, lingering seconds, lowering herself with a painstaking slowness.

The moment their hands touched, Dair couldn't help but smile, even though the touch was fleeting and gone in a single moment. He started to turn to [member="Sayl Bane"] to speak, but was struck speechless when she put her hand to the back of his head and pulled him down to her while she reached up to him. The kiss was something that Dair had wanted, hoped for even, but not something he would have known how to initiate. Instinctively his hand came up and brushed some of her hair behind her ear, letting his fingers linger around her ear. As she lowered herself, he felt himself drawn down with her until the kiss broke a moment later. Eyes that he hadn't consciously closed came open again. His eyes were wide with surprise and desire, and a soft, genuine smile was on his face. The times he had kissed girls before, few as they were, had been clumsy things with lips brushing, and then the girl running off giggling. This time, years after his last such encounter (such was the life of the Jedi Youngling/Padawan), had been something orders of magnitude different. Sayl didn't run off giggling, and Dair didn't want to run off either.

His heart thundered in his chest. He tentatively reached out with his hand and brushed his finger tips across the back of her neck. He didn't try to force her closer, but the invitation would be there in the subtle touch. "I guess we've settled whether you can surprise me or not." He said softly with a chuckle, he was only paying the tiniest bit of attention to the spar going on only meters away. His eyes were on her. "I...uh..." Again, he didn't know what to say. It was starting to frustrate him, but he went with her lead. He reached down with his other hand and put a fingertip beneath her chin. If there was any resistance at all he would stop, but for the moment he tried to tip her head back. He leaned down, this time going far enough so she wouldn't have to be on her tip toes, and kissed her softly. The kiss would be tentative, this being the first time he'd initiated the kiss between them and not having practice, he would be nervous about stepping over the line.

[member="Fletcher Lorcan"] [member="Uri Aureleos"]

Uri was forced to take a step back, something he was actually taught not to do. Stepping into the opponent shortened their attack and made it less fast and powerful. This is where his short weapon grabbed the upper hand. Fletcher's persistence to go for his weapon hand meant stepping in would also be stepping in to the strike. Going after the such a small target all so meant Uri didn't have to do much to avoid the attack. He stepped back from the first attack taking the taunt with a grin not much caring to taunt back.

Instead of his eyes focusing on Fletcher, they drifted instead to the two bodies behind him. How Dair and Sayl almost seemed to mold into one... What is she doing to his lips!? Wait... What is he doing to her lips!? He stared for a moment with a stunned expression. His mouth wide open. Jaw dropped. Kissing. That's what they were doing. He remembered seeing certain knights do it before and soldiers with girls. Didn't they just meet however? Uri couldn't wrap his head around it.

Wasn't he doing something? Sparring? By the time Uri remembered Fletcher, he was already next to him. Uri tried to step out of the way yet still get in close. In an odd moment, Uri's hand was directly under Fletcher's the force of his hand hitting against Uri's forced him to drop his light sai. He drew his hand away as the sai hit the ground and the blades withdrew. His tongue went to his cheek as a small smile hit his face. He wasn't angry at the distraction. Uri didn't get angry. He was annoyed if anything. He mentally groaned. Fletcher was going to milk this for what it was worth...

[member="Sayl Bane"] [member="Fletcher Lorcan"] [member="Dair Cotarin"]

Fletcher wasn't bothered by what the other pair were doing, he was too concentrated on the fight. He frowned in concentration and kept pressing attacks on his opponent, when their lightsabers entwined and Uri's light sai fell the the floor, its blades retracting. He must have been really unobservant, but he still hadn't noticed what Sayl and Dair were doing. All his focus now turned onto the fact that he had just won a lightsaber fight, well... spar. He deactivated his own lightsaber and a wider smirk grew across his face. "You're going to regret this bet you made." he said, clasping Uri on the shoulder. He wasn't being particularly mean, just arrogant.

"I told you I was good with a lightsaber, even when I was against-" Fletcher looked down at the light sai then back at Uri. "-that thing." he reactivated his lightsaber and swung it through the air, showing off his skills despite not fighting against anyone. "I can take you on any time, anywhere, I rival even masters as a swordsman so don't take it too harshly." Winning had only fed his ego. Once he realised that barely anyone was paying attention, he lowered the weapon and walked over to stand besides Uri. He saw Dair and Sayl get rather close and he narrowed his eyes. The Padawan walked over and forced his way in between the pair, not before deactivating his weapon once more. "What are you doing? This is the enemy." he said dramatically to Sayl, before his lips curled into a smile. He was competitive but he wasn't serious.

[member="Dair Cotarin"] [member="Sayl Bane"] [member="Uri Aureleos"]

Contrary to what Dair seemed to believe, she wasn't at all unsure when it came to the second kiss, but even she could sense that he wanted to take things slowly, at least until his own uncertainty was remedied. It was something she could respect, even if she didn't entirely understand his order of thinking. Well, up until her own hesitancy with getting too involved with another, but even that was beginning to melt and crumble away until it was nearly nothing. Maybe it was just the moment itself, or maybe she was actually beginning to relax herself around him. The chances of the latter happening so soon were slim at best. It would take time for her to adjust to any company other than her own and that of her twin. Kindness shown by any other individual was alien to her.

The touch just beneath her chin was surprisingly gentle, and the feeling of his lips on hers was just as featherlight. If Sayl had been anywhere else but a Jedi Temple and the individual she was with anyone other than a Jedi Padawan, she wouldn't have bothered with the shy passes that they were making now. But something about him made her want to take this slowly and not rush into things, and she wasn't sure what or why that was so. However strange the feeling was, she couldn't deny that there was something about it she enjoyed as well. As they slowly parted once more she returned his slow smile with one of her own, just a bit more roguish in nature. That was the line that separated him, and she was just as aware of it as he. "If all of your surprises are like this, I wouldn't mind seeing more of them."

It was only then she completely registered the fact that they were being watched, but she was slow to really care about any of it. Fletcher's comment, however, did earn a grin in return. "I think he's a lot less of an enemy now, but I'd still like that sparring match." With that she raised an eyebrow in Dair's direction, once more brushing across his hand with her fingertips, this time gently intertwining her fingers with his. She remained close to him, closer than she'd allowed anyone in years, aside from her brother. It harbored both a sense of uncomfortability and belonging that merged to bring a softer, kinder smile to her lips. This was a side different than her usual taunting, though that other facet woud come out to play at will.

As if in answer to that idle thought, her smile took on something of a more dangerous edge. "Don't go thinking I'll be too easy on you, now."

[member="Fletcher Lorcan"], [member="Uri Aureleos"], [member="Dair Cotarin"]

Yep, he was milking it. Uri could only shake his head and resist the urge to put Fletcher into a headlock or maybe just an arm bar something to make him beg for mercy... The moment passed however. His eyes went back to Dair and Sayl confused at how it even happened and how they suddenly had a connection. His mind didn't envy it or anything like that but it simply confused him. He was stupid when it came to love or attraction.

Uri picked his sai up placing it back on his belt as he headed over to the sidelines. Sayl and Dair's turn. He personally hoped that Dair didn't throw it just because of her but it wouldn't matter either way. Uri wasn't overly competitive. If he were he might have called Sayl out for cheating. Purposely creating the distraction. He wasn't sure if that was even the case or not. He was too sure of much at the moment only the fact Sayl and Dair were about to face off.

"If you lose, Dair, Fletcher and I might taunt you," Uri joked then turned his head to Fletcher. "You know some good taunts, right?"

As they parted, Dair's smile seemed to consume his whole face. He only peripherally registered the attention as his smile was returned by Sayl. That smile sent butterflies through his blood again, and he enjoyed it. He knew that if he looked at the past few minutes in the clarity of hindsight that he wouldn't be able to explain anything rationally, he knew in his heart that whatever was happening was a good thing. Fletcher's comment took him off guard, though a quick look at his friend's face cleared any doubt and the smile returned. He squeezed Sayl's hand slightly as he looked at Uri.

"I take it that means we're the underdogs right now?" Referring to the previous bout. He couldn't guarantee that the actions between Sayl and Dair were responsible for the loss, but he was fairly certain. The three of them had been friends for long enough for Dair to know that the young Uri was very much still monastic in his mindset, even more so than most other padawans.

Sayl Bane said:
"Don't go thinking I'll be too easy on you, now."
His grin grew wider, he instinctively knew that she wouldn't take it easy on him, and he had no intention of taking it easy either. He wanted to get to know her and he was fairly certain the reverse was true. Any false modesty in deed or word right now would hurt...whatever it was that they had right now. That was a thought Dair didn't even consider. "I wouldn't dream of it." He told her in return, his grin was very wide, with a much smaller fierce side to it. He wasn't sure what kind of fighter she was, but he was certain she'd surprise him again. He just wanted to be ready for it.

"I assume since you two were armed with saber and sai that we're doing this unarmed?" He asked, truly looking for clarification on the quick set of rules they had come up with.

Uri perked up at Dair's question, "Sure... We'll go best 3 out 5 I guess. Give us all a chance to head up against each other. You and Fletch with sabers next then Sayl and I go hand to hand. Should we be two and two we have doubles match to break the tie? Does that sound good?"

[member="Dair Cotarin"] [member="Sayl Bane"] [member="Fletcher Lorcan"]

Fletcher smirked and ignited his lightsaber, spinning it round. "Yep. But there isn't going to be a tie, we're going to win." he said, glancing back at Sayl before turning to face Dair. "You may be older, but I'm still the best at this." he said cockily as he held his lightsaber downwards. "Don't take it too personally." he added, only growing more arrogant the further the competition went on.
