The Doppelganger
Kai passed through the library doors and immediately turned toward the aisles of shelves. He walked with a casual gait, his hands in his jumpsuit’s pockets and eyes seeming to wander aimlessly, as if he was just browsing.
When he spotted what he was looking for, he quickly tore his gaze away, continuing to look around even as he slowly made his way closer. Black hair, green eyes, golden skin… yep, it was him. Saan’an Gaelor. Aeris’ new Padawan.
He was standing alone. Kai couldn’t see what exactly he was doing, but he looked pretty distracted. Did that mean… had he already noticed…?
Walking into the shadows of an aisle across from the golden-skinned young man, Kai continued to “browse”. It wasn’t long before he spotted a book located in a section where it did not belong—a tome about marine biology, sandwiched between two volumes about the history of the Clone Wars.
In fact, every shelf in the library had been deliberately disorganized some time during the previous night, books shuffled around like cards in a deck. The alarms system didn’t pick up on a vandal or prankster breaking in, and it turns out telekinetically floating books show up as little more than tiny gray blurs in surveillance footage, easy to miss or dismiss as spots of dust clouding up the lens.
Once again Kai risked a peek toward Saan’an, hoping to catch a glimpse of the look on his face...
