Armored Up - The outer plating has been bolstered to give the ship a healthy resistance to incoming fire as well as dedicated point defense systems.
Spacious Interior - The vessel is quite large in the abdomen and almost entirely hollow to allow for increased troop and materials capacity.
Single Starfighter - Managing to squeeze a single starfighter docking spot into the starship design was no small feat, and the starfighter is exposed to incoming attacks given the bottom of the starfighter is exposed on the hull body.
Star Hopping - The hyperdrive gives this starship a frightening jump capability.
Automatic Co-Pilot/Gunner - A boon in case one finds themselves in a dire situation. The vessel's integrated droid brain can act as an emergency pilot, or gunner, in case the organic pilot is knocked unconscious. It will follow the best course of action for the pilots safety steps unless programmed otherwise.

I'm Sorry Dave - The vessel is more than capable of being operated by a single pilot that is tied to the on board droid flight system. Anyone not cleared by the system however might find themselves locked in the flight cabin or the system non-responsive. As well, when operated by a single pilot with the on board droid, the combat capabilities of the vessel are reduced.
Variables - When the VOID systems are active, it detracts from the appropriate capabilities of the vessel; i.e. making the vessel slower but more maneuverable and vice versa.
Not A Warship - The ship is not geared for starship to starship combat and is more equipped as orbital support.
Blind Spots - The main guns sit in-line with the rear section of the hull. The entire rear and top section of the ship is unable to fire in these locations and require the vessel to be forward facing a target to attack.
Ion Trails The downside of having variable output Ion drives is the noticeable ion trail it leaves behind that even a shoddy sensor system could follow.

The design for this vessel came about with the need to transport a large amount of ground forces or personnel equipment without needing to dedicate a larger ship to the job. A hollowed out internal compartment dominates the central fuselage of the starship and features a series of cargo bay doors that open down and out to allow the overhead cranes to operate at maximum efficiency when delivering either supplies or ground equipment. Aside from allowing the swift delivery of vehicles and supplies, this allows troops from inside the cargo bay to jump straight into the action without needing to single file out of the vessel as the cargo bay doors act like ramps if opened in the correct order. As well, all cargo bay doors can be opened to allow for a large top down view of the planet below, though the idea is somewhat overshadowed by the ships purpose. Slightly shifting from the focus of high troop capacity was the need to provide some sort of further support for those troops that were projected to be delivered to the ground.

These ideas slowly formed given the cuts already made to both shorten the vessel and limit the large central area to troop occupancy.

An idea struck however to include a recently created ship into the design of this vessel. The how remained a mystery as they toyed with where to store the single starship for access and resupply. Finally finding the space for it in a molded docking slot fixed into the rear-most section of the cargo bay. It seemed easy enough to create a series of additional access doors and hatches to allow the crew inside the main body to resupply the expended weapons aboard the starfighter without needing to completely halt the vessel in the vacuum of space to do so. While the process takes time, it also assures everyone involved that the starfighter is less likely to be engaged between Close-air-support operations and resupply runs. The next hurdle came in both arming the ship, and also remaining true to the projected plan of providing further ground support.

While the ship could not be armed completely for wartime use as other projects from PGEM had been, this one still needed something to perform two purposes. The easiest solution came in the form of kinetics and using gravity to aid in the destructive power. Featuring a single weapon capable of delivering support fire from orbit to ground troops, the hypervelocity cannon was affixed to the foremost post on the belly of the ship in clear sight of the bridge crew. Flanked by two additional assault laser cannons to aid some weapons not entirely dedicated to ground support in the process. Adding four laser point defense weapons to help round out some of the defensive systems as well as finding optimal placement for the addition of heavier armor plating, the ship was finished off with 5 VOId systems to aid in making quick speed or agility adjustments to help deliver the starships cargo with options.

A fine addition came in the form of external cargo modules. Allowing for the stowing of most any gear or surplus munitions that came along with the company of troops expected to be in the hold for extended durations. Using internal cargo tractor systems allowed the external storage pods to be brought inside through the magnetic containment bubble while keeping the hull pressurized. A requirement to be largely self-sufficient was also made of the vessel, requiring systems that could recycle any waste matter brought back on board along with a heat recycling system for further self sufficiency.

The final need for the ship was the expedient nature of delivery to far off systems at a moments notice. Remembering a smaller ship they had produced, the designers were content to place a ridiculously fast hyperdrive into the assembly with their own company's hyperdrive as the backup to the unit. Content with the support ship for ground forces that was small enough to easily run blockades and still carry a company's worth of troops and their gear the schematics were uploaded to the PGEM system and ready for production.
