Phantom of the Past

[member="Aeri Vyn"]

Taeli leaned back in her chair, jotting down notes as the test began. The Dusk fighter began by engaging the cloaking device, the internal diagnostics recording how the device handled as the ship disappeared from both the naked eye and from the sensors looking for it. The pilot had been instructed to go through multiple maneuvers, including going for the fighter's top speed to see if the cloak could be maintained at such high speeds. There were a few faint blips on sensors looking for efflux trails as the pilot pushed the ship to its limits, but everything seemed to be performing well.

On the bridge of the Aurora observation ship, Kyburne would order for the other fighters in the area to enter the testing zone. Each had their blaster cannons powered down to minimal levels, the goal essentially being to tag each other out. The same would be said for the Dusk fighter, its goal being to strike each "enemy" fighter. The fighter decloaked as it suddenly appeared behind one fighter, its blasters peppering its target before it disappeared again as soon as the cannons stopped firing.

"All going well so far," Taeli mumbled, jotting down a note as the Dusk took out another target ship. The other pilots couldn't seem to find where it would strike next, indicating their sensors weren't picking it up. "Seems to be performing on par with our Phantasm device so far."

All the while Aeri would take notes. It seemed to be on par with the Phantom device, which was well. What would be next would be the show on how a mass of these prototypes could stealth a larger ship. To be honest, Aeri was a bit skeptical that it would have a smooth and even distribution, but if anyone was set on making it work it was Taeli.

There were always issues when multiple parts were used to cover the whole. Slips in the cracks if you will. Hybridium could have the same issue but who knew how this would work out? It would certainly make a stealth option a bit more viable than having to depend on Stigiyum.

"I believe that should be sufficient data to be working off of for a single unit," Taeli said, signaling to Kyburne to end the fighter test as the Dusk took out two more ships. She received an affirmative message, and the fighters pulled out of the testing zone. Next up would be the true test for this new prototype, the cloaking of a 1200 meter long Star Destroyer. The Star Destroyer in question began to move into the testing area, with a different sort of test in mind for it.

"Engage," Taeli said. On cue, Kyburne would give the signal from the observation ship to the Obscurus to power up its cloaking field. On board the Obscurus, the captain would issue the order to power on the ten Nebulous cloaking devices that had been retrofitted into the ship. Taeli had been unsure if even distribution of the device would be needed or not, that would be taken into account of course, but they had decided for these initial tests to simply have the bank of cloaking devices arranged at the prow of the ship.

Not as fast as a single ship disappearing was, but the Obscurus vanished as it fully entered the testing area, disappearing in a piecemeal fashion. The sensor probes around the given space would begin sending out multiple types of scans to see if there were any weak points in the cloaking field, but so far nothing was popping up. Taeli did make a note about the length of time it took to cloak the ship, postulating it might take a little longer for the cloak to disengage and re-engage.

At the designated time, the Obscurus began the decloaking process to see how long it would take.

It took a few moments for the cloak to engage. Aeri would observe as it initially started from the prow and worked its way back to eventually cover the entire ship.

While not exactly like stigyian, it hit the nail on the head.

"Huh." Aeri made a small noise at the back of her throat at that. It would certainly do well with larger ships. If there were any kinks then now would be the time to find out.

"So what are the issues that have been discovered thus far?"

[member="Aeri Vyn"]

"It would seem its a power draw issue still," Taeli said, looking through the scrolling technical readouts appearing on her datapad. It had been expected, considering the rush job for the retrofit, but it was something that could be worked around in the future. "I'm not too concerned about the pattern of the cloak engaging, with it starting at where the cloaking bank is and going back I should say, although timing needs to be faster. More power will likely help with that."

The tests would continue as the Star Destroyer re-engaged the cloaking device, and more sensors were activated to try and detect the ship. Most normal scanners and sensors weren't picking it up, but the gravfield trap and some magnetic sensors were picking it up. That was also to be expected as even stygium cloaks couldn't stop those types of sensors, they would just need to compensate for additional components if they wanted a fully stealthed ship.

"Kyburne, run some calculations and see what we can do to cut down on activation and deactivation time while the ship fires its weapons," Taeli said into her comlink. In space, the cloaked Star Destroyer would commence a small firing cycle of its turbolasers. An interesting thing would occur where the main part of the field would stay in place, but local power draw for each shot fired would reveal to sensors and the visual eye the weapon emplacement. It was almost amusing to see a floating turbolaser appear and disappear as the shots were fired.

"Well that is an interesting sight to see." Aeri added, watching the turbolaser appear and then disappear.

"Granted, anyone who ends up being able to calculate the origin point of the blast via trajectory would be able to get an idea of where the ship is." That was an issue that affected any stealth system, so Aeri wasn't too worried about that.

A nod and a pause.

"Everything looks good." she told Taeli.

"So in what manner may I be able to help you?" she asked. If they were looking for fueling systems with little emissions, then Mara Tibx would be it. But any other manner they'd be happy to help as well.

"So far, yes," Taeli replied, keeping the feed up as Kyburne would continue running different tests. She knew they were also trying to work on a way that communications between a cloaked ship and elsewhere might be shielded, but that would likely require further advances in communication technologies. Still, she could tell her Zeltron guest was at least intrigued and was curious what role she and the ATC subsidiaries might have for such a project.

"As you can see, our devices performing rather well," Taeli said. "However, I would like to extend out two contracts for the companies you represent. I would very much like to acquire a long term supply of TibannaX for use in ships that might be equipped with such cloaking technology, including up to capital ships. The second contract is likely to be beneficial to both us. You see, this planet and the surrounding system used to be under the auspices of ShadowTech Industries, but now its Aurora controlled space. I would very much like to extend an offer to your companies mining rights to the adegan and stygium crystals below, along with any other useful materials we might discover in system. In return, we would a steady supply of adegan crystals for our project here and access to a cut of whatever else is mined, with the lion share to your companies of course."

Now that was quite the favorable offer. Aeri's went wide and she gave a nod. There was no need to beat around the bush when it came to a favorable exchange. Arceneau Trade always considered itself to not only enjoy a good profit, but a fair exchange. This would suit them both and allow the companies to benefit from each other.

"That sounds more than fair," Aeri replied, indicating she was pleased as would Mrs. Arceneau at that.

"I would be happy to do all I can to ensure that moves forward." with that they could get everything signed and move forward.

Another question, "How soon do you think you can have your new stealth generators on hand for public purchase?"

[member="Aeri Vyn"]

"I'm glad to hear that," Taeli said, settling back into her chair and taking a sip of tea. She really was glad to hear that Aeri was pleased with the offer Taeli was making. It was a good deal for ATC and all its subsidiaries. Aeri's next question made Taeli pause for a moment as she considered what level of production for the device she might want... and who would be able to purchase it. Her paranoia about the technology meant she was inclined to only see a limited production for very trusted clients and projects.

"With the data gathered at today's tests, I would imagine full production will commence soon," Taeli answered. "Whether or not the public sees the technology... I'm inclined to say only very trusted clients and partners would be able to purchase such. Even then, I have half a mind to install anti-tampering devices to make sure the tech can't be reverse-engineered."

It was more three-quarters of a mind to do so, but she didn't want to voice that aloud completely.

Again, fair. Aeri could understand wanting to only provide to a select clientele. It was much the same stance that the Trade Federation was taking with InterGalactic Solutions and all of its products. There were only just a few select clientele that the small council was willing to deal with during the time that they were trying to rebuild its reputation.

And reputation was everything.

"Sound reasoning," Aeri replied with a smile. "I am quite pleased with what i've seen so far and I am excited for the new business opportunity."

In the background, the testing would continue as the Star Destroyer continued to cloak and de-cloak. Each time was being done to ascertain where the Aurora engineers could cut down on the activation time, every event being carefully cataloged by the technicians on board the ship and the engineers observing. Overall, Taeli could agreement with the sentiment shared by Aeri. She was quite pleased by today's tests, and she would be sure to move Kyburne onto the other project he had been requesting permission to work on. Adegan crystals were not the only type Aurora was interested in experimenting with, but that was supposed to be all hush hush.

"I'm looking forward to our partnership with ATC in developing this system for resources," Taeli said. "My friend who discovered the system always imagined it would be a massive engine to fuel his dreams, and now his dreams will be coming true. Please do give Miss Arceneau my best, as always, and I do hope she has seen some use for the Masqurade droid I gave her."

With that, the meeting would conclude and another puzzle piece would fit into place.
