Podracers plowed into the Pillowesque Dunes of Darth Shiid with abandon. Once everyone who was gonna make it had made it, Old Man Merrill and the other roughnecks went out to start hauling the pods free of the sand. His still-nameless Ronk droid trundled along at the heels of cable-dragging pit droids who needed to power up some hover clamps. The finish line was not, shall we say, a safe place to be.

Way up at the top of the slope, up by the main stands and private galleries and crap, that tattooed announcer was gyrating wildly.

"That manic burst of speed from Lawton Vega! I can't get over it! The man is simply immune to the Tempting Oasis of Kaaash! Lawton Vega takes it all!

"Second place to Kellum Velos , veteran of the Ison Coathook! Third to Cassus Akovin of Denon! Each has won a generous two-thousand-credit purse! Seven total racers survived the course! Astonishing — a new record for the Korriban breakneck! Each will receive a positively munificent five-hundred-credit prize pot!

"BUT LAWTON VEGA TAKES IT ALL! THE MAN IS SIMPLY IMMUNE TO THE TEMPTING OASIS OF KAAASH!"

That dumbass announcer was still yowling up there as Jorus got hauling. This really had turned out to be an unendurable day.

"Today, the legendary rebel Lawton Vega wins a multifarious prize pot donated by GalaxiCorp, the Intergalactic Shipping Collective, Hekler'Kok Defense Industries, Obsidian Star Technologies, the Court of Blades Company, and Fleet Industries. Cassus relented his white knuckles from the controls of his Podracer, now sand-logged, smoking, and a single out-of-place light from spontaneous combustion. Repulsors started dying about halfway down the dune, and he was so focused on keeping his racer together with duct tape and pure faith, he didn't even see the back of the pack literally fly over both him and his competition. There wasn't even a trickle of sand falling overhead as this 'Vega' persona soared above Cassus.

After Cassus parked just past the finish line, he took the opportunity to sit back and sigh. That's when the machine finally called it quits against Cassus' relentless determination to keep it afloat, and it collapsed wholesale into the ground.

"Oof," He grunted as the impact bounced him out of his seat. He saw Jorus Q. Merrill nearby.

"Hey," He nodded towards him casually and feigned taking a nap on his new pile of scrap.

"You still there, Daiya? I'm thinking about going to a pool later, maybe that Oasis, but I'm open to suggestions." He keyed up his communicator.

The race was over, along with his adrenaline, so the race for relaxation began.
