[ Poll ] A Major Question

Greetings ladies and gentlemen!

As of today, the Aka'liit has reached a milestone. We have existed as a minor faction for a month - and as such are eligible to apply for major status. This particular choice has been one that we, collectively, have discussed infrequently. However, I do believe the time has come to cement our direction. Today, I would like to poll each of you on whether or not the Aka'liit should go major.

Now, there have been concerns expressed in the Discord channel. We have lived within former Mandalorian factions, we have experienced factions that have been map game centric, and we do not wish to repeat history. I will say this in going forward: we will not. From day one, the Aka'liit has strived to remedy the faults of our predecessors. We have, and will continue to, emphasize story over blobs on the Galaxy map.

We will not shelve our threads in favor of dominions.

We will not allow OOC politics to infect our faction.

We will continue writing the story of Mandalorians restoring their culture, one day at a time.

If you have thoughts to share, please do so below alongside your vote. It is my desire to see a fruitful discussion arise from this poll, and to see all thoughts and concerns heard to then fullest!

Nay, for now.

I want us to atleast finish our current threads before we go major. Add some 'flavoring' to show that we are capable of completing more threads if we become a Major Faction.

Personally.

Do I think we should go major? Absolutely. While I did not help found the faction on that basis, I think we would be remiss to pass up this opportunity. While it is true that it is possible to thrive on Chaos without being on the map, I feel like a True Mandalorian restoration would involve just that. We fell from grace. We lost both positions on the map. We lost literal years of effort. It's time to start anew.

Things have been done poorly before, both by my own hands and by fellow peers. And as cliche as it is to admit, the road to failure was paved with good intentions. For months since this summer, I've listened to what I've done wrong. I've reflected on what went wrong with the Clans. And frankly, I know we can do better together. We backed ourselves into a corner - one characterized by sodium, OOC politics, and a prioritization of the map game.

So as a major, I'd strive to steer clear of that.

The Aka'liit as a major faction would be story first. I will not encourage shelving our faction stories in favor of gobbling territory of the map. In fact, if we chose to go major, I encourage all of us to see every thread through to the last line. Our moves as a faction will not be based upon OOC, no matter how frustrated with our peers we become. Our end all and be all will be the story - and if something doesn't make sense, we won't do it.

I don't want us to become obsessed with the game either.

History has shown that major factions do not need a plethora of planets to be "successful." The Aka'liit, if we so choose, can be an example of this. As a major, we can populate a hex or two and flesh out or worlds. Write stories to our heart's content. Grow together! We won't simply bounce from dominion to dominion, dropping the thread at post 100 like so many dominions before. Again, story is our priority and as a major, I'd have nothing else.

As for story, we would be living out the name Aka'liit.

In canon, the Aka'liit were formed after the Mandalorians were defeated and disarmed by the Republic. It was a movement of defiance and survival - warriors who chose to remain faithful despite the current situation. Mandalorians who kept the faith and rebuilt their culture.

As a major faction, our story would evolve from its current state. We started as a gathering of warriors who regrouped on Dxun. Now, we will have gotten on our feet enough to gain ground. But our culture has yet to heal. To return home in this state would still lead to failure. No. We must continue to remedy ourselves afar, so that Mandalore can know true restoration. Thus would we begin on Dxun and continue to spread our culture. Not through mindlessly razing worlds, but through passing the torch. Through the Resol'nare. Through being Mandalorians.

So, TL;DR -

I vote major.

Well I know I am quite fresh to this scene (as in I joined the faction today), so if that makes me ineligible for votes and what have ya then that's ok.

But I think that this is a great group, with great people. I think there are lots of great opportunities here. I am looking forward to seeing what develops from all of this. I think that if things can stay low key, everyone stays chill, and all that, and those who try to meddle and cause OOC problems then sure, why not?

I am all for general consensus. If going major allows us to be involved in more threads and evolve our stories-- to restore the Mandalorian name as a whole and develop more relationships.....Heck YES!

To be honest i would be fine either way, should Aka'liit decide to go major or not. I am sure we will have fun either way.

I'm hesitant to go major this soon, just because I don't want a repeat of all that I've seen before. Once a faction goes major, a lot of times activity goes near-silent, as it's seen as a be-all-end-all instead of another part of the faction's story. I'm not implying this to be the case with the Aka'liit, but it's what makes me shy away from the prospect after only a month.

That being said, I've not been personally involved with this group until very recently, so I'm not speaking from much more than past experience when I say this. All I know is I want our jump to major to be beneficial to our ability to tell stories, and if it doesn't expand on that right at this moment, then I say we hold back. Besides, we've still got threads to finish, and I'd like to see those done and cemented before we're in any haste to get a spot on the map.

Long story short, I vote to remain minor.

To be honest... I'm a bit iffy on whether the Faithful going major is the right move. In the future. yes if we continue the great path we are on, but right now no.

And here is why... We have yet to truly complete a thread from start to finish. Yes, we've had some good character development and base story written in many threads. I think though we still need to show we are a strong, cohesive writing group if the faction is going to prosper on into the future especially at major status, and not be a flash in the pan start up. I'd like to see us nail some more threads personally to show the board we really deserve the respect of our writers putting so much attention to story over the map game glory. Cuz you all are great writers! It's a true pleasure to write with you all.

We don't need to rush things just because the time table is there to do it. So I say lets table this for today, and bring this up in a couple more weeks after we finish the Dom opp thread and bring some others to conclusion. (Are we still handling security for the OSL in the FO/GA invasion? That starts tomorrow if we are.)

Also too with Strider taking over as Warmaster IC (or at least I thought that was the case), the group can rally behind him and our IC Mand'alor to drive a great Mandalorian rebuilding story wth all the rest of us doing what we do best supporting that... Course each character having their own little sub plots simmering on the sidelines to weave into the bigger picture to make things more fun.

That's my thoughts...

I'm for whatever...

These are the points I am considering in favor:

Guy lays out a great idea to keep the map influence small for now, but grab our spot before anyone else can.

We are already more active the Alderaan Peeps.

Those of the core seek committed.

Here is what I'm seeing in staying minor:

None of the group threads I'm in have ever finished. I'm not even sure any have.

The IC change with warmaster happened because of internal conflict over direction of the faction, and a member trying to work around what had been decided.

We have enough unique writers, but that hasn't translated to thread participation. As it is the same writers are in most of the threads and that will lead to burn out.

These are my observations. But my vote is for whatever.

We go major to lick our spot, and keep to our stories. We needn't let the map game play us. I would like to see us complete a few threads (or maybe they are completed, who knows). But having the Aka'liit go major would be a nice little beacon for those remaining Mandalorians who haven't already seen it to see it. So if we don't do it right this second, I would certainly like to see us go major in the future.

Y'know, I've been thinking for a while and this got me thinking with the Underground back when it started major.

A lot of people didn't want to go major because they were afraid being on the map would change their play style. Just dom, dom, dom, dom, dom, and dom. And that wasn't exactly true. They've only had three or four doms so far, and the majority of their threads are just faction threads and the occasional skirmish thread.

I feel like people are afraid to go major because it will change our story and play style, but it really shouldn't.

If we go major, the only thing different from being minor is having some blob on the map and that's it. We don't have to dom, dom, dom, dom all day and everyday. Faction threads are a great way to maintain a major faction on the board.

I say we give it a go as an experiment. If things turn out well, then great. If not, we have nothing to lose and we continue our story.
