SPECIAL FEATURES
- Jump Jets - The Jackrabbit has a series of small thrusters to act as jump jets, allowing it to leap over high barriers, move quickly, have limited flight capabilities, and maneuver in zero G environments.
- Repulser Skates - In the feet of the Jackrabbit are a pair of light repulserlifts, only capable of lifting the entire vehicle about half a meter off the ground. When used in conjunction with the thrusters, it can move extremely quickly and change directions at the drop of a hat.
- HPI - HAPU | Hybrid Antimatter Power Unit [Open Market] - The HAPU allows for long operation without the need to monitor fuel levels, and small antimatter recharges can be carried to restart operation if shutdown occurs in the field, either intentionally or otherwise.
- STS-84 "Artemis" Class Targeting & Sensor System [Open Market] - A solid off-the-shelf sensor system meant to do everything moderately well without overspending or over specializing.
- Ejector Seat - Since the armor on the Jackrabbit is so light, this is the major concession to pilot survivability; the harness the pilot is strapped into can be ejected straight upwards and maneuvered via light repulserlifts while descending. Using this system indoors will just result in the pilot being smashed into the ceiling and have to bail out the old-fashioned way instead.
STRENGTHS
- Quick and Nimble: Thanks to the repulserlift skates and thruster matrix, the Jackrabbit can dart around rapidly faster than any vehicle with heavy weapons has the right to.
- Heavily armed for its size: Though not too heavily armed relative to its peers as it's armed comparable to an IFV, but for its size, the Jackrabbit's weapons are impressive.
- High jump: Between the powerful leg hydrolics and the thrusters the Jackrabbit can jump several stories and land without harming it's pilot.
WEAKSSES
- Light Armour: The Jackrabbit only has light armour plating made of Ersteel SLCA, the major concession to keep its tremendous speed and firepower. The armour is only rated to protect from anti-infantry weapons and shrapnel; hitting the Jackrabbit with an anti-armour weapon means that the pilot will have to be identified by dental records.
- Open Cockpit: The Pilot's head and arms are completely exposed and relyant on the protection of their issued body armour to give any protection, meaning that sharpshooter or even a lucky shot could harm or kill the pilot.
- Heavy Power Draw: Due to the heavy power draw of the locomotion systems and weapons retrofitting additional systems that draw more power would require a heavier power generator and both bulk up the frame and put a damper on maneuverability; even something like a light shield generator would severely hamper the Jackrabbit's performance. The massive power draw also makes it show up on sensors fairly easily.
DESCRIPTION
The Jackrabbit originally started as a concept for a set of powered armour based on the AV-A1 Assault Armour and Battleframes to carry a heavy weapon to support a squad that might run into a heavily armoured opponent that small arms can not penetrate. Feature creep evolved it to a small walker that was then cut back into a mixture of a battleframe and personal walker, choosing focus on firepower and mobility rather than use a larger frame to try and fit more armour or shields.
When asked about the possibility of putting a melee weapon on it, Cerria was quoted as saying, "What, no, that's stupid. This isn't one of your Atrisian Holo-Cartoons. It's power armour big enough to be a light walker. Just because it moves fast it doesn't make you a karking Sith or Jedi."
Since it moves like a suped-up, heavily armed, swoop bike while using the repulser skates and thrusters the Jackrabbit is usually piloted by starfighter pilot washouts, though any trooper can hop in and take advantage of it's walker mode they'll have significant trouble making use of it's full mobility.
