AGGRESSIVE NEGOTIATIONS
HONOGHR

A harsh and inhospitable world yet the syndicates are eager to form a pact with Noghri tribes bolstering their mercenary armies. Cryptic transmissions from the planet demand only to negotiate with Hutt Space's strongest warriors. Howlrunners and freelance enforcers are hired to make contact with the Noghri. They land near the transmission source in a mostly lifeless forest. Little do the mercenaries know 'negotiations' have already begun. You are being hunted.

Kessel Mines under Consortium control have caused an explosion of pure spice on the black market. Credits are pouring into each syndicate's coffers. Meeting in neutral territory at the Club Vertica Casino, Hutt Space's most powerful crime lords discuss expansion of the trade.

In one of Club Vertica's private floors, reserved exclusively for high rollers, the Lordas of the Consortium sat around a sabacc table. A droid dealer began shuffling and handing out the cards. Gorba leaned over to his majordomo, A'ti A'ti .

"Remind me to wipe that thing when we are done here," rumbled the Hutt gangster. Turning back to the Lordas, he ran his eye around the room, wondering who would be the first to put a knife in his back.

With Kessel's mines reopened, spice was flooding into the galaxy once more at a ridiculous rate. Syndicates not allied with the Consortium could barely keep up. The Consortium was selling more spice. Selling it faster. And selling it cheaper. Who could compete? Some syndicates had already collapsed. The rest would too. Whether from the complete devastation of their narcotics business models, or from the assassination lists this meeting was here to discuss.

The Man known as Ordan Vosk wasn't typically what anyone would consider a powerful Crime Lord. He didn't move a lot of Spice, he dealt in protection and had played his hand by designing several of the ships available for Consortium use. In fact Vosk was also the anonymous face of a minor company in the Galactic Scene that dealt in arms and other products. He'd been in deep with the Black Sun back when they were a 'major' player on the galactic scale and now he threw hit hat in with the Hutt Space Consortium; he had men and firepower at his disposal.

At the Sabacc Table he reclined easily, a cigarro burning in a tray ahead of him while the Droid Dealer dealt to each of the other Lourdas. He was large, muscular and his hair was grayed over now and thinning though he would never be considered close to balding. Noticeably his features were scarred, the price of doing business in the underworld for a lengthy amount of time...

"Bah."

...came the sound from the back of his throat after he'd peered at the underside of the cards dealt to him...

"Remind me why I bother to play this game?"

...just like that Vosk was out, he'd push the cards dealt away from him and wait for the next hand. Safe to say his strength was in games of chance; Ordan preferred to use his strength of arms and a brutality that came naturally to him when possible.

He looked around the table at the other Lourdas of the Hutt Space Consortium. Insofar as terms went he didn't particularly have anything against any of them but that wasn't saying he trusted any of them. No one here could be played like a fool, he knew how cunning the people sitting around the table with him were.

Especially Gorba the Hutt Gorba the Hutt .

Scar smiled as she tried to bluff up her hand as best she could. She had good chances at winning the current hand, but there were a few hands better. She looked at the two to her right as she pushed a third of her chips into the pot, further weighing her bluff with a bit of chip bullying. She looked at Gorba as she waited for the others to make their bets and was surprised to see the newcomer, Ordan Vosk Ordan Vosk fold so quickly. She looked at the tops of the cards that he had just pressed into the pot as he folded and then her gaze landed on him. She admired a man that wore scars like honor marks. He had a few of them too along with other admirable rugged looks. If he was not another crime lord, she may have bought him a drink in a more flirtatious way, but she would never mix business with pleasure, or at least that kind of pleasure.

Scar leaned back and whispered something to one of her commanders and he set off in search of the item of her desire. He quickly returned with a whisky mixed drink. She smiled at him as she sipped and then took a large gulp of the fine liquid. As she lowered her drink, her attention came back to the hand in front of her as she looked again at the other two still in. "Well come on, I don't have all frack'n day, either your in or you are out! What is it going to be!" She shouted at them before looking back over at Gorba with a smile. She did enjoy getting other riled up.

Location : « Shadow of the Krayt », personal transport ship of Vizzi the Hutt

« I think I'm on something, Master. »

When Ser’u, the Majordomo of Vizzi, said that. It means that he really had something. So when he entered the office of Vizzi, he was confident enough to show his results to the Hutt lord.

« The Data correspond to the schema that you've built. »

He gave the Datapad to his master. And he was right. From what Vizzi could see, new mercenaries were hired for this new criminal organisation. When coupled with the Data of the Vosadii Kajidic, there was no doubt. This new entity called the « Hutt Space Consortium » was growing in numbers and it's leaders were voracious.

« Good. » said the Hutt to his Majordomo, while marking a pause to think of his next move.

« Send him. »

Now

Transport ship of the HSC, en route for Honoghr.

A tension could be sensed in the heteroclit team engaged to meet the Noghri. Most of them knew the reputation of the members of this species. Most of ther mercs stayed in complete silence. A thing that gave tension to one person in particular. To appease the tension, the man tried a joke on the guy next to him.

« You know what’s the difference between a Noghri male and a female ? »

« The size of the weapon ! »

digger-harkness.gif

« Hey, guys ! First time with the Noghris ? » he marked a pause.

« Personally yes. My name is Owiz the Hunter. And my friend here, I think it's his first Noghri hunting party too. He don't speak much. In fact he don't speak at all. »

He was talking about a seated person with dark armor, a white hood and a mask that covered the entire face. This last one was characterized by two white holes slightly luminous. It was impossible to guess the species of the wearer.

« Anyway, I can't wait to give them a lesson. And bring a trophy home eheheh. »

In the same time

Nar Shaddaa, Outside the Club Vertica Casino

« Are you sure, you wanna do this, Master ? There will be no possibility of return. » said the Twi'lek, which seemed so little in comparison to his Hutt employer.

« I know that. And I'm willing to take the risk. » replied Vizzi to his Majordomo. While he was moving to the entrance on his hoversled.

« Our contact in the Club will bring you to them. They are in a High-roller table of Sabbac. I added credits in one of the compartiment of you hoversled. If I may, I advise you to stay to the basics, and limit the losses. »

As always, Ser'u was pragmatic, professional and prudent.

« You did well. If I don't return from the Club, know that you served me well. And that your service will be awarded. »

The Twi'lek noded. He then returned in the transport that brought them.

The atmosphere of the club was, as always, spicy. But it seems that tonight it was more than usual. Vizzi exchanged his credits for chips and took a bag. The contact, who was a human waitress didn't took long to notice her client. She greeted him and asked him to accompany her in a private apartment. She did well, as the Hutt arrived in the floor of the meeting. She then disappeared.

Vizzi moved his way to the table in question. He knew some of them. By reputation only. Of course there was Gorba, his main interest.

The table was full, until two czerialans were beaten in the last hand. Making sufficient room for Vizzi.

My time to gamble. Thought the Hutt with a large smile.

« A pleasure to play with you. » as he watched the whole assembly.

« May be the odds favour us all. » said Vizzi while receiving his cards from the droid. A subreptice smile appeared on the face of the Hutt.

Engines cycling down woke Kyros from his nap. He tipped the brim of his hat up to see a motley crew of syndicate mercs laughing and joking. This run would be the easiest credits they ever made. They'd been told what to say, greetings on behalf of the Consortium help us help you blah blah. None it mattered really. Sly and the others were being paid to look tough.

"Any sign of our hosts?" the duros smuggler asked after setting foot on noghri soil, "Reckon we must be early."

He sounded confident, but inside Sly wasn't so certain. He was starting to get a bad feeling about this. At first, he thought it was the creepy dead forest. Kyros felt like...like they were being watched. Just nerves. Nothing a cigarra couldn't fix.

“Not have all day?” Azar said, studying the cards in front of him indifferently. “Are the heads of the Consortium so weak that their schedule is dictated by others?”

He did not look up from his cards at the impetuous human, but did glance up as a new Hutt slithered into the room. Intriguing. Was this perhaps a rival to the Consortium or an underlying here to pledge loyalty?

Hutt politics were intricate, complex, even by the standards of the Anzati. They were in many ways, reflections of each other. Long lived. They lived by devouring the lives of others- for Anzati, literally, for Hutts, metaphorically. Yet of the two, the Hutts were the gluttonous, gargantuan ones, while Anzati tended to look ascetic, some even emaciated compared to humans.

Perhaps there was a metaphor there. Maybe even one he could weave into a tapestry someday, assuming he lived long enough. The hunger clawed at him and the scent of the sentients around him cling to his nose.

But not yet. His nephew remained out there, shaming the family name, and spurning his rightful place.

That would have to be settled. And soon.

"Come on my trophies," Gula said tugging the chain holding the three slave girls: Darlynn Arard-Milbon Darlynn Arard-Milbon , Jysell Harbowe Jysell Harbowe , and Tessjoe Bisdore practically dragging them to the meeting of the Hutts. This was the chance that Gula was waiting for, to meet with the most powerful Hutts and start forming connections. Gula went silent for the past few months, setting up his slave pens and capturing slaves from the fringes of the Outer Rim. Recently, he had a successful albeit boring raid on Lothal where he acquired not only slaves that he sold off to the Brotherhood but also these three lovely ladies who were being dragged behind him.

The Hutt slithered towards Club Vercita puffing out his abs for the rest of criminal cartel to see. The Lightsaber pieces belonging to Jedi and Sith alike dangling around his neck as he placed his muscle toned arms onto the table. "Lord Gorba!" Gula exclaimed picking up Darlynn and casually tossing her onto the Sabacc table. "It's wonderful to meet ya! I'm Gula the Hutt and I control many of the slave rings in the Galaxy!"

He tugged Jysell and Tess beside him chuckling. "Congratulations on the Spice boom on Kessel!" Gula exclaimed. "You're going to need people to work the mines and I got 20,000 slaves ready to work. I also have slave soldiers who are just as obedient and efficient as Clones from Kamino that will make sure that no one interferes with the operations."

Gula pushed Tessjoe towards Gorba and smiled. "As a pledge of my loyalty to you," he said. "I hereby give you one of my trophies who will act as your entertainer for the night!"

The Hutt snapped his fingers as a servant ran to him. "I want a drink!" He demanded. "A large glass of Flameout NOW!"

Time to discuss business.

"Greetings, my friends. A Hutt's credits are always welcome here."

Nasir welcomed both slugs with a lavish wave of a hand. His smile walked a fine line between friend and carnivore. Subtle cybernetics caused the crime lord's eyes to glow softly. Prince Drayen wore lavish silks, each finger bedecked in fine gems. He held his cards with something like prim disdain.

"We're playing Corellian Spike rules," he explained, "Banthas are wild."

Behind the human noble a trandoshan enforcer glowered, his most trusted servant and protector. Hakar uttered a quiet hiss at the new arrivals but otherwise remained silent.

"You are most generous, Lord Gula. Kessel has been very profitable for us all yet there is always room for growth. Increased production would mean expanding our market, perhaps beyond Hutt Space?"

From behind his cards, the pirate observed the new lordas that entered into the room.

A new round had just started, so it was expected that there would be new players joining. The few that came in were unfamiliar to him though. Word has been getting out across the galaxy that the Consortium was expanding with each day, but the man thought he was keeping up with the aligning groups better. Nevertheless, he wasn’t here to make friends, only business partners. One day here soon someone is going to get stabbed in the back, and Pyrrah was going to use his power and credits to make sure it wasn’t him.

On the topic of spice trade, the pirate decided to jump in on the conversation with news of his own.

“Why yes, Mr. Drayen, growth in business is always for the better. The Exchange has been setting up more mining facilities on Kirdo III, where the spice flows plentiful through the sands.”

Lifting up his glass of wine, the man took a small drink of the fine beverage before continuing.

“Setting up facilities across multiple systems could be good for production, as it does not leave our main operation on Kessel as one big target.”

Taking another look at his cards, he waited for the players before him to make there move before making his move.

Darlynn hadn’t really learned to enjoy her new environment at all, but the training with Mione Menall Mione Menall had at least made it so that she understood what Gula the Hutt was looking for. She managed to stay more or less on his good side recently, but now was a new challenge. More high powered Lords and Ladies of the Underworld. Actually now it seemed they were just the controllers of a Consortium who actually existed within few very vague laws.

She still was not comfortable with the dancing and such, but at least she was better prepared for it. The three women who came to Gula together were dragged along to this meeting. Jyell and Tess were much more eager to please. Tess because she was afraid, Jysell was still working some angle.

Tess unfortunately was chosen as Gula’s gift to their host. Darlynn was hoping it would be Jysell. Jysell was much more Darlynn’s peer and somehow turned being the best slave into a tiring competition.

Tess was pushed forward towards Gorba the Hutt. She had a hard time meeting the new Hutt’s gaze. “I am yours to command Lord Gorba.”

"Eh? What kind of spice are we discussing?" Gorba's acid yellow iris stared at the slave, roving over her flesh with a disgusting lascivious delight. He looked away from her at the cards he held, saw it was an abysmal hand, then pushed some of his chips forward anyway.

"I check."

His attention swiveled back to the slave.

"Come and sit beside me." He patted at the chair next to him, failing to mention that one of his guards standing behind that specific chair was ready to snap the woman's neck if she tried to make a move against Gorba. Honey prizes were a common way of assassinating rivals. It wouldn't be the first time a Hutt Kajidii died to a newly presented slave. And it could all be written off as a rebellious slave going against her master. Very clever.

"My thanks to you, esteemed Gula. We welcome you at this table. And the Vosadii as well," though Gorba said this last with little warmth as his gaze flicked to Vizzi. The Vosadii had a... reputation. Bareesh had not been on best terms with them, but perhaps matters would change now as they so often did over the centuries. Alliances were often fungible, profit the only constant motive despite some Hutts claiming to live by their honor as the Ancients did. Fool talk.

"But like I said. What kind of spice? Glitterstim. It is only mined on Kessel because of the spiders there. If we take those spiders to Ryloth, then we could manufacture there too. But that is all, unless you know the secret to breeding the spiders, hmm?" Gorba eyed Pyrrah. "Glitterstim is the most profitable spice. It's what everyone wants. But if you talk of other spice, say Sansanna, perhaps yes. More production is good. We take that market too. But refinement of glitterstim. This is what we need. The refineries on Nar Shaddaa are good, but not all in our hands. We acquire the rest. Fill them with Gula's slaves and there..." Gorba shrugged, "more spice."

Talk of Spice production occupied most of his attention now seeing as Ordan had folded early in the hand. It wasn't just because he had terrible luck playing Sabacc it also let him take a long look at the other Lordas, especially the Hutts that were arriving. Looking at the rest of them he was sizing them up, assessing them for his own benefit seeing as how all the allies at this table could become enemies one day.

Letting his eyes rest on Scarlett Zann Scarlett Zann momentarily after she's barked across the table at the rest of them he couldn't help but chuckle momentarily. Taking his cigarro he'd roll it between his fingers slowly then inhale a long drag before clipping it in the ashtray to one side of him again. When the slave arrived he glanced at her too; she was a fine gift for Gorba the Hutt Gorba the Hutt but he saw what Gorba was doing, sitting her in front of a Bodyguard that would kill her at a moments notice. Very wise.

It wasn't until the conversation in Spice grew deeper that Vosk would have finally remarked...

"More spice means more soldiers to protect it."

....which he didn't mind, if he provided a bulk sum of the manpower that meant more profit for him as well. It donned on him though that others such as the Enclave or the Silver Jedi might seek to snuff their spice production. They were 'bleeding' hearts that wanted to kill the criminal element throughout their stretches of the galaxy which the Consortium was bordering. No matter though.

"We must, of course increase our security presence in the shipping lanes and on the Consortiums borders if high production and market monopolization is realized. Lot of Bantha Fodder out there that would look to take advantage if anything goes lax."

...he sat back, reclining easily in his chair again. Three Hutts, he wondered how long the three of them could actually stomach one another. Gorba was, at this point the most powerful but that could change. As for the other Lordas, Nasir Drayen and Pyrrah Tae Pyrrah Tae both seemed to be cunning types but cunning types sometimes overestimated themselves.

Reaching for his cigarro Ordan stuck it in the corner of his mouth and took another drag before exhaling a large cloud of smoke as the end lit with embers.

After an agonizing 10 minutes, the human servant arrived with a Hutt sized glass of Flameout. It was just as large as Jysell's head as the Hutt wrapped his FIT fingers around the handle. "About damn time!" Gula said drinking the alcoholic beverage in one gulp...... only to wince and spit the Flameout onto Jsyell's face.

"What the flying frack?!" Gula growled while he grabbed Jysell's neck using her strawberry hair as a napkin. "This fracking Flameout tastes like it came from ROOM TEMPERATURE! Do you think I'm some limp wristed wimp?!"

Throwing Jysell onto Darlynn, Gula began to flex his biceps showing off his impressive physique. "I'm a beast!" He yelled. "The apex predator who asserts dominance! GIVE ME FLAMEOUT THAT'S ACTUALLY HOT!"

"Y-yes sir right away!" The servant rushed out of the room while Gula took a look at his cards. "As you know my Lord," Gula said trying to choose words carefully. "These slaves aren't cheap to produce, and I believe that I should get a nice cut of the profits from Kessel say 10-15 percent? I also desire to start a dedicated slave trade enterprise."

Gula tugged Darlynn's chain motioning her to get up on the table and dance. "I have slave markets on Coruscant, Denon, Hosinian Prime, Kasyhkk, Zeltron..... It's a galactic enterprise my Lord and I want to consolidate it all in the Consortium! Allow me to take control of the slave market and I will quadruple your current profits!"

The Hutt took another look at his hand smiling. "My head slave Mione Menall Mione Menall is a master at finding and creating Glitterstim," he said. "Even Darlynn is very good at going into the caves in search of Spiders! Right my trophy?!"

He gave her chain a tug before turning to Nasir. "Indeed," Gula said. "But I have plans on having Kween to be the major slave trading hub to which grab slaves from every corner of the Galaxy! Think of it as a headquarters for slave trading my friend."

Tess danced trying to gain the attention of Gorba the Hutt. She really didn't care too much if he liked her or now, just that Gula accepted her attempt to comply. All three 'trophies' had gotten much better at dancing since they started lessons with Mione. Tess was likely the best now. She got compliments and attention because of this and that only made more uncomfortable and less willing to dance without express orders from Gula. But Gorba was an important contact for Gula to make. Tess knew this and knew that her best chance at entertaining Gorba and gaining Gula favor was with a dance.

Darlynn thought she had avoided any attention from the group and stayed lounged 'looking pretty' at the front of Gula's floating platform until she felt a tug on her chain. Either by luck or design she ended up standing on a table and she knew exactly what that would mean. She was expected to dance. Along with dancing her lessons with Mione Menall Mione Menall also helped her to keep a smile always on her face no matter what she was actually thinking. This had led to a much more pleasant environment and kept her fellow trophies from taking the punishment for any slight that Gula thought came from his stubborn strong slave.

As Darlynn danced she heard Gula mention that Mione and herself were trained to find Glitterstim. Suggesting that Darlynn had been in the spider caves and was good at prospecting the...well whatever was used to make spice. Darlynn was a rather straight-laced woman. She'd never seen spice until she was taken from her home by Gula. Now she was supposed to pretend to be good at finding the stuff? "Yes Great Gula. I know the caves and spiders well," she said using the words to cover the sigh of concern that one of the others present might call Gula on his claim and she would be thrown into the caves with the spiders.

Scar was enjoying herself, even when Azar Kortun made a wise crack reply to her jest. She saw new members approaching to join the game including another fracking Hutt. She had a hard enough time working with one and now there were three? She sighed before the game was interrupted as a slave girl Darlynn Arard-Milbon Darlynn Arard-Milbon was thrown onto the table and ordered to dance. Not only did this interrupt Scars relaxation into the game, but also offended her, due to her past. She was once a dancer, and her worst customers of all were the Hutt scum. Now this Worm was not only interrupting her game but reminding her of a hated part of her past.... Her brow grew tense as she looked at the flexing worm.

She was about to let it all go and just excuse herself, when the new, flexing, worm did the unthinkable. He tried to offer Gorba the Hutt Gorba the Hutt a slave force for the Kessel mines, and wanted a cut from the profit. Who the frack did he think he was talking to? She could not remain silent. "You know, Worm, you are talking to the wrong Boss. He may buy spice at a discounted rate, but he does not run the operation there. When it comes to producing spice in the mines, you talk to the Pykes, and you talk to me! We are the only two operators that need mine slaves...." Her voice seemed to hiss off as she looked away, but then began to continue to talk down to the Worm without the respect to even look at him. "You come in here thinking you know everything and you talk to one Boss about the business of many within the room, and then you interrupt our game with slaves?!!! If you know what is good for you, you will dismiss your slaves from the room, including the 'gift' and I will think your actions are an accident and forgiven, rather than an insult!" She ordered the Worm with direct eye contact. Without waiting for a reply, she returned to her hand.

"More spice means more soldiers to protect it."

This brought Scar's attention back to the others. "That is a good point, we could always use more soldiers and ships" She replied. She hinted to Ordan Vosk Ordan Vosk for more details, but did not want to publicly ask about them, especially after the recent outburst by the Worm and his slaves.

NYSTAO, RULING CITY OF HONOGHR...

Rakh stood in front of the elders, his eyes unwavering, as he listened to their commands. They spoke the native tongue, as the collection of the oldest and wisest Noghri addressed the five warriors from various clans. The elders had been in brief discussion with leaders from a nearby system, a group led by a Hutt that sought to have Noghri support in return for support, as the homeworld - Honoghr - of the short species was renown for being tough and unforgiving. Yet, the Noghri were proud; they didn't simply respect just anyone's attempt at influence over their region of space.

A test would occur.

"Vali vl brovi nae visekakoe, vida halikae lei ghey par dhi," One elder spoke, wrinkles crisscrossed her face, and her eyes had started to dim to age. "Sl halikae vali moskoe hal serkelei wokel konor dhi nae bobol."

Rakh, and the four other warriors, bowed in unison. They had been instructed to test the outsiders, to do what needed to be done, in order to maintain honor for their people and to ensure the Noghri only served the strong. That would be little challenge, especially for the hunters on their own planet, which was as well known to them as breathing.

"Lei vl landoe hal wokel sreekoe dhi wokel senvivae pkoe," Another elder continued, as he indicated the proposed landing spot for the Hutt delegation. It would be east of the dead forest. "Mcy."

Then the order to go was given. From that point on, all negotiations would be conducted through a carefully considered and applied sequence of tests, devised by the warriors to put any delegation through the appropriate evaluations. Without another word, the five warriors turned and walked from the elder gathering place, charged with their task and equipped with their weapons.

It wouldn't take them long to reach the dead forest...

Nasir raised a glass of fine savareen brandy to Pyrrah Tae Pyrrah Tae in toast.

"I wish you good fortune on Kirdo III," he smiled like a carcarodon.

They were the closest things to allies in this den of vipers save perhaps the Hutts. A relationship not based on trust but mutual assured destruction. When the Exchange prospered, they both prospered. Those same connections could be used against them. Pyrrah knew far too much about his operations on Dubrillion.

"You certainly have a passion for your work, Lord Gula."

While mildly scandalized by the boisterous Hutt's brewing confrontation with Lady Zann, Nasir hid it well. It was unfortunate the nature of his work required him to associate with those he deemed lower class. He respected Gorba most of all as a worthy rival, yet the denizens of Club Vertica were hardly galactic high society.

"Rest assured, my friends. Increased production means more credits for protection and...labor. Spice will make us all rich as kings, but we have discovered something else which will help ensure our future. Tell them of the adrenal mines on Quesh, mighty Gorba."

Once Vosk learned of the potential for Quesh venom, Prince Drayen felt confident the legendary enforcer's concerns about security would be well addressed.

Owiz and his "friend", arrived in the landing area. It seemed that they arrived early.

"Any sign of our hosts?" the duros smuggler asked after setting foot on noghri soil, "Reckon we must be early."

« You are probably right, my blue friend, ahah. These Noghri don't seem to have the concept of time. »

Just after saying that, some noises could be heard from the woods. Owiz put his hand to his holster.

A few seconds later, a bird flew out of one of the nearby trees.

"Bah. Just a bird."

The arrival of Vizzi surely increased the level of tension at the gaming table. After all, no one knew him except Gorba.

This meeting started off well, when another Hutt entered the game. Gula.

Vizzi, for a brief moment, was upset. He knew the young Hutt by reputation. A great warrior. The lightsabers around his neck could confirm it. But according to his sources, subtlety was not part of his way of doing things. This first meeting with Gula confirmed Vizzi's information.

He bowed his head slightly to welcome the new Hutt. The man called Drayen welcomed them. He gave the rules of the game. Vizzi nodded his head slightly in approval.

It didn't took long for Gula to monopolise the attention of the table. Fortunately, the conversation was focused on the spice. The various members were proposing ways to ensure and augment the production and safety of the production sites.

"I check."

While continuing to play, Vizzi remained silent. He took his time to study the various participants. Gula was true to his reputation...

The slave exchange was a dark spectacle for Vizzi. Gula represented the cliché of the power-hungry Hutt surrounded by slaves. While Vizzi had a rather negative view of slavery. The practice attracted attention. Especially from the Jedi and other so-called protectors of the galaxy. It was bad for business. Nevertheless, the Brotherhood of the Maw was already attracting attention.
Coming back to slavery, Vizzi do not practice it in his close circle, nor in his business.

The hutt could see that the slave offered to Gorba was placed next to a bodyguard.

He's clever not to fall in a trap. Vizzi thought, while playing.

Gorba took the time to welcome him and reveled the name of Vizzi's Kajidic. The latter no longer had this card in his hand. But he still had plenty under his sleeve.

« My greetings, Lord Gorba. »

Then Gula began his show again. He made a slave girl dance.

Poor creature.

The Flamout show, convinced Vizzi, that doing business with Gula, was dangerous. As the Hutt could be unpredictable. Or at least emotionally unstable. After he finished his speech about the slaves, Vizzi let the white-haired lady interrupt Gula. He would have gladly smiled. He was so in agreement with her. He let her finish before breaking from his silence.

« Allow me to interrupt you, young lord. »

Vizzi said, continuing to play as best he could with a slave now on the gaming table. This Gula really had no respect.

"Don't you think that making Kwenn Station a platform for slavery would draw attention to your operations ? And thus on everyone's operations?"

He marked a pause to make his point. And looked at the young Hutt for the first time.

"It might give the Jedi and other factions eager to attack the Consortium, a reason to do it. And to take over your territories." His attention now turned to the assembled crime lords.

He waited to see their reactions before continuing. But the bright-eyed human tried to calm things down.

"Rest assured, my friends. Increased production means more credits for protection and...labor. Spice will make us all rich as kings, but we have discovered something else which will help ensure our future. Tell them of the adrenal mines on Quesh, mighty Gorba."

The conversation was taking an interesting turn...
He would explain the reason for his presence with them later, after the subject of Quesh was closed. But if it was about what Vizzi thought it was about, then the Consortium would have much more resources...

"Don't demean yourself for them," Azar said, glancing up from his cards as he spoke to the slave. "Freedom and slavery are illusions, legal fictions that balance on the edge of a knife." He paused, pursed his lips, and gave a short breath that whistled briefly through his teeth. "One that can be upset by the slightest touch of the winds of fate. The galaxy may be nothing but prey and predator, but we determine which one we are if we have the strength of will to see it done."

At the last mention, he looked up, eyebrows raised. "Adrenal mines? Now that is an intriguing possibility. These sound like they may be worth my time. What more can you tell us about them?"
