Premonitions

And then... Calm. As much of it as Kana could muster, one breath before another as she felt the hand of Adele hover above her wound. She swallowed air, or rather blood, and coughed. Breath stuttering, body shivering. If there ever was a time for a spontaneous feeling of gratitude, now would be it. Yet the haziness of it all had Kana slowly delve into a brief state of panic.

Who was this? Why were they helping her?

She knew it was Adele. It couldn’t be anyone else, but why now?

“I’m sorry.” Kana stammered. “I will-”

...-Not finish this sentence. A final exasperated exhale and Kana would, for the moment, drift off into a shallow rest. One not even remotely as deep as the one she should have found herself in. Adele would have to be granted a thank you for that later. That went for the mysterious stranger playing with her hair as well, of course.

As long as he stayed away from her hair in the future.

... Of course.

"Carry her."

A'dele's voice would carry over the sound of another series of approaching footsteps. The Force would thrum with with forewarning, rushing up the spine and setting the tiny hairs at the nape of her neck on end. The longer they stayed her the worse it would become. For them.

For me.

A distant call of alarm would alert others of their fallen comrades. Slowly rising to her feet, the Iridonian Jedi Knight would stare out into the shadows. Her face was pale, as if blanched, a pale sheen of sweat beading over her face and collecting over the pale lavender of her tattoos.

A second ticked past. The inhale of a breath.

There is only the Force.

A volley of blaster fire shot at their direction, and time slowed. All it took was a single blink. One single blink of glacial eyes and suddenly a massive citrine energy field bloomed in front of the Jedi Healer. Bolts struck only to be absorbed, confusion startling their attackers.

"Go." her unwavering voice would command, spoken softly but with it carried unquestionable weight. Jacen would have to take Master Truden in his arms and hurry to depart.

“Did I mention,” Jacen grunted as he lifted the Jedi Master from the floor, “that I really hate Nar Shaddaa!”

Whilst Kana was light enough that he hefted her up with relative ease, she was also quite tall and completely flaccid in his grip, making her awkward to carry. Jacen shot Adele an appreciative look as the shimmering energy field snapped into life.

He looked up to see the approaching gang members, hues shifting through the field. Through the Force the barrier was a discontinuity in to the flow of the field that was doing enough to manifest in the physical world. The first volley of bolts lanced across the space towards them. They did nothing but send faint ripples across the field.

Despite practise he'd never created a barrier that could absorb so much. His blaster skipped along the ground and came up into the air of its own accord. It fired twice sending a spray of bolts down the alley.

Legs pumped hard as he turned and ran. The Force was used as much to stabilise as balance as aid his pace as they fled through the narrow winding streets. The dogged pursuit was shaken off after a few streets, as likely because of the fear of entering a rival group's territory as the pace they were setting. So typical of Nar Shaddaa that no one stopped to question two spacers running with a pale woman covered in blood at any point back to the shuttle.
