Not like reverse-engineering or corporate espionage isn't a thing...

Totally:

Reverse Engineering Rules

Any player may reverse engineer submissions where there is evidence that these were previously owned by/ manufactured for them. This is to distinguish submissions whose intent is the reverse engineering from an available approved Factory submission.
  • A Faction or Individual may reverse engineer or create a new submission for items where there is evidence that these were previously owned by/manufactured for the new submitter.
  • The original submission must be referenced and properly cited for reverse engineering.
  • The new submission must adhere to current Factory standards.
  • Complete a Reverse Engineering Mission Objective: Embark on a quest to research, modify, and prototype the Reversed Engineering Item in question. There is no set post limit, though you should tell a complete story.

I guess my overall point is that, in practice, there are tons of loopholes in the loophole - ways to sidestep the exploits you're talking about. You've got a point, but in practice, things work out.

I don't want it to be done with original companies, but having to wait 60 days is kind of painful. It could easily be sped up. Other sites with around or over a hundred characters active have site-wide activity checks, run by a handful of staff. There are, what, like 40 active canon companies? It isn't so ridiculous when dozens of RP sites do exactly this. All you have to do is, once a month, do a handful of things that you would do in your normal activity, and then just link them in the activity thread, the latter of which would take around 5 minutes top.
The only comment I am going to make in this thread is:

Activity checks will never happen so long as I am the Factory Admin. I have neither the time nor desire to do proactive scanning of companies. The community is tasked with that if they so choose to develop canon companies. And if I am not going to do this, nor will I ask, make, or allow anyone else to do so.

Understood.

Just make a Mon Cal company, build your own shipyard from scratch, and build the ships you wanna build.
I don't really want a Mon Cal company. A) The ships are ugly af, and aren't even close to being as aesthetically pleasing as I used to require B.) the shielding generators have been replicated by people who haven't even interacted with Mon Calamari, and C) you can make better targeting sensors than what they possessed nowadays. I just don't want a... uh feature this abusable to be present in any way, shape, or form, as it could be used against others in a variety of ways.

I honestly don't see how this is an issue.

If someone holds a company, they're not hurting anything. If they hold a canon company then in a way they're actively pushing the creation of new chaos companies as people can't have the companies that they want so they have to make their own.

In some ways, people holding canon companies is actually helping chaos.

How it happened is irrelevant. It shouldn't happen again, and it probably will. This is a completely abusable loophole within the RP. If I want to make a canon company just to keep someone else from having it, and never do anything with it, then I could.
That is not true. You get more or less a free pass on your first check for activity, following that you will need to show proof of activity with the company. This is stated extremely clearly in our rules.

You can read our factory rules here.

I never should have listened to the others in my faction. I was told to suggest it, since no one else would because it hadn't effected them yet, but whatevs.

Sometimes a problem is only a problem because you want it to be.
The only problem here is that letting people have a "free pass" after 30 days of them doing absolutely nothing is incredibly inefficient.

skin, bone, and arrogance
Time for some tough love (which, as in the case with the term "Mandalorian intelligence," is everything but the last word).

First of all, thank you for your interest, but we already have someone who thinks the staff have nothing better to do and demands rule changes every time something doesn't go the way they expect, and we're all rather attached to [member="Darth Metus"], but we'll keep your resume on file in case he decides to retire.

Next, not for the first time you have the wrong end of the stick. It is not correct to state that someone has done "absolutely nothing" just because they haven't done what you would do. You attempting to make your judgment the defining standard of this board will and should fail -- this thread, full of your histrionics and claims at victim status, proves that. Not only are you doing this in a transparent attempt to get what you want (no matter how often you say the timing is irrelevant, everyone knows that's wrong, and you know it too), you (who have been here all of five minutes) have gone about disrespecting nearly every voice of reason that has posted here because you don't respect what has come before. This board existed for years before you showed up and it will be here long after you leave (again) so there is no real reason why the staff should take an existing and functional system (more or less functional - believe me, I've experienced issues with the canon company system before) and twist it to suit your own interests, especially knowing that at the very next minor inconvenience you suffer (or, more realistically, the next time a person refuses to react to you in a way you feel you deserve) you'll just storm out again?

On a general note, can you just chill and maybe stop setting fires wherever you go? I know that you are burning your way through faction Discord servers, offending everyone you come across and getting kicked or banned from multiple factions. That is not entirely unrelated to this thread, so maybe take a look at that. There is a way to convince people to make a change in the board rules, if the idea is good (which, in this case, it is emphatically not). But since I know you'll ignore this advice -- everyone else is the problem, not you, never you -- I'll just wish you good luck.

Additionally, this isn't a rip-off. There are a number of companies that have formed this way IRL, and developed their own unique technologies. Mon Calamari Shipyards is not the only organization on the board with Mon Calamari shielding, or even Mon Calamari-style shielding.

At this point, the only thing they can lay a claim to is hoarding a company. They don't even have the rights to the shape of their company. If I want to create something that uses a variety of unique technologies, substances, and other products - many of which are in the works - with actual innovation rather than never even using something, then I can.

You literally wanted to use Mon Calamari Technology, Ships, and the Planet and Species as per your original statement, yet now you claim you didn't even want Mon Calamari. My original question is even more relevant than before... what is the purpose of fighting so hard for this company? Are you just trying to make hassle for other user(s)?

I think we're at the point where it's time to cool things down. Canon companies are being reexamined with community feedback in mind, so this thread has served its purpose.
