[Private] Before I Forget

Jyoti couldn't help but feel guilty as Raven had recounted her experiences with the Silver Jedi so far. As soon as Arisa had left the picture, Raven had just been left meandering to her own devices.

She reached out, softly caressing Raven on the shoulder.

"It's clear to me that the Silver Order has let you down." She had let Raven down. "We will make it up to you, and continue your training. That said, you're certainly not lacking in power. And the end of the day, it's all about improving focus."

There was a soft chime as the printer finished. Now they were free to pick out the hilt after the metal had been given a few minutes to cool.

"Alright! Now here comes the fun part! Construction. Meet me back at the workbench so that we can continue. I have some other components to show you."

Raven looked up at Jyotiwhen she felt her hand upon her shoulder. She didn't want it to seem as though the Silver Order left her be, even though that is certainly how it felt. But, she was to blame for it too. She never made her presence known, or rarely so. She never sought out a new master after Arisa. She just continued to separate herself.

"Thank you," she said just before the printer chimed its completion of her hilt. She felt a jolt of excitement again as she looked back and saw that it was done, and even more when she had mentioned construction. Raven gave her a nod, and then moved back to check on her hilt. It was still hot, but she figured it would cool after a few moments. She looked back to track where Jyoti went off to, and then picked up her hilt with the Force as she couldn't find herself to wait any longer, and made her way to the workshop.

Right as Jyoti settled into a seat before the workbench, Raven had caught up with her. The Echani waved her hand over the countertop, pointing out the neat arrangement of components. Energy packs, circuit boards, lenses, emitters, all the other components Raven needed to complete her lightsaber.

"I trust by now you're familiar with how a lightsaber is put together. Now you get to do it for real. Go ahead and put together your hilt."

Basic construction was the easy part. The real test would come with calibrations, telekinetically aligning and fusing parts to make the saber work. Otherwise, all they would be left with is a fancy plasma bomb for their troubles.

To say that Raven was nervous about the entire process was an understatement. Sure, she knew how a lightsaber was put together, but never had she imagined herself actually going through the process of its construction. She picked up the pieces listlessly, as though she didn't really know how to put it together even though she was fully capable of doing so. It was just the nervousness; something that she'd have to overcome once she had to actually calibrate the weapon itself. The rumination of this part helped none in making her feel more comfortable with the process, but she managed to the best of her ability; shakily putting the hilt together piece by piece. The components locked and clicked into place with a steadily gaining speed as she became slightly more comfortable with handling it.

It was coming together wonderfully, and exactly the way that Raven had imagined it during her studies. Once she was finished, she gently placed the hilt down on the table, and stood aside for Jyoti to examine.

"I'm not entirely sure if I did it right, but... I-I think it's ready for calibration."

Jyoti carefully observed Raven as she put together the lightsaber hilt, making sure she fit together everything right. The base components of a lightsaber were actually fairly simple, no more difficult to assemble than your typical blaster. However, the tolerances for a lightsaber was low, which was why calibration was critical to ensure correct alignment.

After Raven moved aside, Jyoti picked up the hilt to examine her handiwork. She gave the hilt a few small jiggles, twists, and shakes to make sure nothing was loose.

"Alright, seems like everything is in order, good job." She gave Raven a pat on the shoulder, then passed her back the hilt.

"Don't worry, calibration may sound scary, but it's really a beautiful experience. Much like the time you resonated with your crystals, you do the same with your lightsaber as whole. As you connect with the hilt through the Force, you making micro adjustments that normally can't be achieved by hand or even with a machine. Eventually, as you keep going over your hilt it will just start to feel 'right', or balanced. It definitely helps if you've memorized the schematics of your hilt, it helps with visualization."

"Now please, give it a try. I recommend you find a quiet place and then take as much time as you need. I'll be around."

The girl knew of plenty secluded places in the Silver Rest. Usually on the days where she was left to her own devices, she would isolate herself in any of these areas. And there was one that she had in mind for this task, too. She looked down at the hilt that Jyoti had handed her, and looked to the second one that was still in pieces. She would proceed to build that one as well, with none of the hesitation that she had while piecing together the first one. Once she was done, she looked to Jyoti.

"Should I come find you once I am finished, or will you already know ahead of time?" she asked the woman as she looked up from her work.

Jyoti nodded. "Sure, just give me a holler on the comlink when you're done. Otherwise, I'll probably be hanging around the dining hall or the gardens."

She passed around Raven to the exit of the workshop, then smiled as she turned back on the younger woman once more.

"Good luck. Remember, just take your time and focus on bonding with your lightsaber. At the end of the day, it is an extension of yourself. Treat it as such, and you can do no wrong."

With that, she finally left Raven alone to her own devices. The next phase of the process would have to be something she would have to work out all on her own.
