As most of its weapon systems are geared for the bomber role, it doesn’t fare well in close-quarters dogfights.
The RAF-02 Y-wing is a twin seat/unmanned starfighter designed by KSA for export. It fulfills a similar role as the original Y-Wing series produced by Koensayr, a tough bomber capable of surviving withering defenses to deliver its devastating payloads at close range.
[SIZE=9pt]The whole platform is built around a pair of slow firing 120mm repulsor-based rippers, high-velocity[/SIZE][SIZE=9pt] kinetic weapons that deliver the equivalent damage output of standard explosive warheads. Mechanically, the ripper cannons are identical in operation to the Vespa, using focused beams of antigravity waves to quickly propel flat armor piercing flechettes of dense depleted [/SIZE]baradium[SIZE=9pt] toward targets. To aid the flechettes in penetrating shields, they are coated in a jacket of energy resistant [/SIZE]agrinium,[SIZE=9pt] and enveloped in ion energy that can also affect electronics in the event of direct collisions.[/SIZE]
Rounding out its primary armaments are a pair of flex tubes that afford the Y-Wings some versatility in operations, from anti-ship assaults to surface bombardment. Alternatively, the flex tubes can be replaced with bomblet generators for sustained bombing capabilities.
Built as more of a pure bomber than its predecessor, it is not well suited for dogfights with only a single-turreted autoripper meant for defense. In extended battles where the Y-Wing can’t simply speed off to safety after bombing runs, it is highly recommended they be paired with some kind of escort against enemy starfighters.
