Alkor Centaris
Son of Liberty
The final report came in from Knight Darcrath after several minutes of radio silence. He caught himself holding his breath and straining to reach out and feel them in the Force, wanting certainty about their continued existence. Instead, he held himself back. Alkor hated the idea that he was not able to be the one in danger, and that he was responsible for anything. He did not express it with more than a sour expression that, reflected in the transparisteel that separated him from the vacuum of space, only served to worsen his mood.
"It would seem that fortune favored us today," he murmured to himself as he stood rigid, hands clasped behind his back. There were many unknown factors surrounding the Rejuvenex debacle. Why had they kept the strain that caused undeath? Why had it been allowed to contaminate the finished product? Had it all been engineered that way from the beginning? If so, was it a plot to get at the Confederacy?
There were many questions that begged investigation, and he began the process that would see no stone unturned with a few quick keystrokes. The Office of the Vicelord received the first copy of his findings, detailed reports from each Knight who had sent him their findings and detailed information about anything and everything that had found its way into the network.
Alkor paused to glance at the short, precise notes compiled by [member="Naedira Darcrath"], some of them laced with acerbic wit, others cut and dry without humor. She was an impossible woman to pin down, and he would not begin to try understanding her mind. Instead, he tagged her file with a recommendation for reprieve, to allow her some free time to decompress after the situation that had just taken place in Thyferra.
He made the same recommendation for all the involved Knights, knowing only so many would even be considered. For he and [member="Madalena Antares"], the very idea was off the table. He had been inactive for the entire mission anyway.
The clean up was nothing short of eventful- piles of charnel and pools of gore were hardly the run of the mill janitorial protocol, and so on hand CDF elements were called in to collect, decontaminate, and burn all organic materials that carried with them a risk of infection. Archivists from the Obsidian Citadel were flown in on short notice to collect and carefully seal the remaining contaminated Bacta Samples, which were then returned to Geonosis and placed under lock and key to be studied at a later, safer time.
Guests who survived the ordeal were debriefed and returned to society only after they were assured that it had been a fluke of science, and that it was never going to happen again. The Confederacy knew they would be inconsolable, and so, the few of them who were not placated with that promise were taken into custody or conveniently disappeared.
The Vicelord decreed shortly after that Rejuvenex was guilty of performing inhumane and unethical research, and that private organizations should not be allowed to play God within the umbrella of the Southern Systems. As such, they would be subsidized and the Bacta would become quickly available on the civilian market, and for trade to Confederate allies, thus re-entering it into the Galactic Economy and returning miracle healing to the forefront of Medical Science. While it created friction with Silver controlled Manaan due to their former dominance of the market, it would eventually even out in their favor, as the two Galactic Superpowers controlled the market on healing substances between them.
In all, the Confederacy profited from the acquisition of Thyferra, regardless of considerable civilian loss.
As he finished making the report, Knight Commander Centaris closed his eyes and hit the button to send it off to the Dominus and to the Vicelord. Hopefully, they would consider the day to have been a success.
Alkor did, in spite of his pragmatism.
