Ready For This

Taking a hold of the steering column, Jardain listened to what Kalic requested of her. Even though she was blind, she closed her eyelids when she focused on something. This time it was on the life of the clouds in front of them. There were variations in what was in the air and a clear path appeared before them. Once she had that, she started her first run through the cloud formations.

The little droid was taking the readings and when she finished, she turned the ship around for another pass. Before heading back in, she waited for feedback from Jee.

The droid seemed to thing for a second before letting out a few whistles. Kalic nodded before speaking up.

"Well, Jee says you hit ten clouds, but only on the wing tips. Considering how these fighters are built, I'd say that's a pretty good first run through."

(Short post is short.)

"How can you understand what he says?"

It might be an odd question to ask, but sometimes her thoughts just came out. That happened very rarely though. Listening to what Kalic said, she nodded and focused on the now changed formations again.

The weather was in constant motion and moved the clouds around. A new path was going to need to be found for her second pass through. It came to her quicker this time and barely waiting long enough to his answer, Jairdain had launched them into the formation again.

Taking things at the same speed, she hoped she had done better this time around.

(Finally posting. Sorry for the wait.)

Kalic chuckled a bit as he heard the flurry of whistles coming from the sphere in his lap. The blind pilot then looked to Jairdain. “I’ve just learned over time. It’s like Huttese in the Outer Rim. Also, Jee has feminine programming, which is what all the yelling she’s doing is about.”

After hanging on for the second pass, Daws looked down at Jee, who let out a couple more whistles that brought a slight smile to Kalic’s face. He looked back up, quickly saying “Only eight that time.”

It was good Kalic was blind or he would clearly see the blush on Jairdain's cheeks. That blush went further along her skin than just there, but she was still glad he couldn't see it.

"I am so sorry. See what I mean though? Can't even tell the difference between male and female."

Hopefully Jee accepted her apology and wasn't going to stay offended. Nodding when the answer came from behind her on how well (or not) she had done the second time.

"Should we go again?"

Kalic gave a little hearted chuckle to Jairdain’s reply before answering her. “It’s ok, Jairdain. There’re a lot of folks who don’t understand binary. And if you ever get a droid copilot you can just give them a Basic speech protocol. Even an astromech.” Jee let out a couple more whistles, which got another chuckle from the pilot. “And if it helps, Jee ain’t mad.”

After the second flight, Jairdain asked if they should try again. Kalic was a bit surprised by the question, though he probably shouldn’t have been. He checked the cloud formation, then the fighter. “As long as we can keep flying I say go for it.”

There would be a sense of relief that came from Jairdain at the words from Kalic. Both about her lack of ability to understand Binary and the fact Jee wasn't mad at her for her mistake.

"I can't sense droids though, my sight relies upon emotions and while they have programs that give them simulated ones...they aren't real. I am unsure if I have a need for a personal droid."

She hesitated a little in her words, but felt they were correct. The okay was given for her to try again and barely before the words were out of his mouth, Jairdain had turned the ship back into the formations in front of them.

"It would be nice to get this perfect."

Kalic thought for a moment. “Well... can you see materials that are Force imbued? I’ve heard of metals and rockets having the Force flowing through them. If so, you could plate a droid in it.” Kalic then paused. “That is unless you get your ships fitted with a droid brain, or basic A.I. To allow voice commands.”

Once Jairdain had turned around, Kalic looked at her. “Even us spacers need to practice. Heck, pilots like Wedge Antilles and Poe Dameron has to start somewhere. It just takes time and some skill.”

"Yes, I can even imbue items."

Jairdain saw emotions in pretty much everything. Even her personal ship was a life form on its own. While it didn't so much as have a personality, it was a ship that was alive. Not a fighter type ship such as this one, but one that carried her when she travelled around the galaxy. She only used that on her off time when she wasn't doing something for one of the governments she belonged to and worked with.

Smiling when he mentioned everybody needed practice, she decided to make the ship return to base and flew back the way they had come.

"Thank you for this lesson, Kalic. I will try to practice more and get a droid like Jee to help."

Kalic smiled at Jairdain’s statement. Interesting. She could actually imbue items with the Force. The pilot had never met anyone capable of doing that. The pilot then held tight as they landed, with Jee whistling wildly as the canopy opened and she flew out. It was pretty clear the droid didn’t like how she had to ride in the fighter, and was happy to get out. Kalic just chuckled at the astromech as he left the craft. He then looked at Jairdain, and nodded at her response. “No problem Jairdain. And if ya ever need more help with flying don’t be afraid to give me a call.” Kalic honestly enjoyed teaching knew pilots how to fly. It was nice to pass on his skills on to others.
