Remove Nanotechnology from the Restricted Tech section.

Mhmm. Obviously we'd have to prevent it being THAT overpowered. Perhaps a policy where nanite development takes longer than other technologies to prevent abusive usage?

Can we add Popo's gas to the banned technology list?

It is cruel and unusual.

Maybe I'm wrong, but when I read the thread saying Nano was banned... wasn't it allowed under rare circumstances still but with reasonable reasons and very clear weaknesses for the item in question? Also poodoo tons of development?

[member="Taeli Raaf"] Something in the medical field was what sparked discussions for the ban. The writer iirc, wanted it to be cell regenerative to the point of immortality. I'd have to dig out the thread to read it again to give you actual quotes.
So I can't seem to find it but I'm 90% sure there used to be a thing in the rules that said you can't be immortal. So why not just add that to the ban in the factory. Like "anything that makes your character immortal". Of course in my opinion this would all fit under my previous mentioned addendum of "don't be a dick"

Oddly enough, and not fitting to the discussion for Chaos... There was a scientific journal (i'll find the link) that was talking about using nano-therapy to effectively rebuild telomeres on DNA and, in essence, stop aging. Supposedly trying it on mice soon. But from what I read of how that would work, if you tried to combine that with regeneration, metastatic disaster would end up happening, and in the end you'd be riddled with cancer and auto-immune diseases.

I do like the cosmetic aspect. Just finished re-watching that Episode. I wouldn't see how that would be considered abusive if applied correctly and within moderation. Just means you have to trust the community to use what we call common sense when applying it. I could also see someone using an NPC as a bomb for a plot device - again, if not abused. All of that opens up a plethora of stories to be written, etc.

The Factory began as a way to prevent abusive, unfun things without having to go, "Well, Vong Tech can be abused so it's banned" or waiting until the crying began over someone's "Blaster of +1000 DMG."

Personally, I'd like to not see a Banned List and just have obviously unfun things get insta-denied. I prefer the Restricted List because it's basically saying, "This is allowed, but we need a good reason to let you have it."

There's a lot of potential for stories with all of the Banned List, not just nanotechnology. And it doesn't have to involve min-maxing munckin-like roleplaying.

I agree with this. :)

My only thing is, I'm going to sit here and make some gree hyper gate thing - put in the dev for it and then have a judge go "Oh wow that's pretty op, being able to drop fleets behind enemy lines nope insta-denied" I'm going to be pissed because I did all this dev and all this research only to get denied. I believe the banned list helps people avoid starting something and getting excited only to be denied in the end.

That's more of an Infinity Gate, entering at Point A and coming out at any number of destinations. Gree Hypergates function more like Mass Relays from Mass Effect or Stargates from the Stargate franchise. Enter A, come out at B. And like the latter, it requires that multiple units be built.

Edit: But yes, I too think that having a list of things that will always be denied is a good thing to have, even if items come and go from it in the long-term.

I know the Restricted List has some items that require more than just a Dev Thread. To me, it's like saying, "If your sub is [X], then it must met [Y] and [Z] to be seriously considered." I know this is used beyond the Restricted List, especially with starships.

I could see a Gree hyper gate having special requirements beyond just a Dev Thread.

Gree Hypergates: 50 quality post dev thread involving at least 5 goat scientists from Denon aiding in the construction.

Sound about right?

No. It would require a blood sacrifice of Alric and Danger's first child.

Edit: CURSE YOU PHONE I'm playing Diablo and trying to not minimize >_>

Goats are too OP never allowed in factory. Also it was just a generalized hoopla crazy stuff to make a point as I was dying to demons

I'm all for bringing back nano technology, I think it would open the door to some fun stuff from creative writers. I agree that an outright ban wouldn't be the answer.

I'm okay with allowing Nano-whateverz back into the Factory.

But then? Biological, cybernetic, artificially intelligent, and nanoscopic warfare; (alone or combined,) doesn't scare me as much as it does other people. :p
