THE SENATE
REPUBLIC GOVERNMENT

The Republic Senate is the central legislative body of the Wild Space Republic. Unlike the centralized bureaucracies of the Core Worlds, the Senate is a loose, adaptive council composed of representatives from various planets, space stations, and nomadic fleets. Its structure reflects the untamed and diverse nature of Wild Space, prioritizing autonomy, rapid decision-making, and mutual defense against external threats like pirates, warlords, or encroaching empires.
The Senate is composed of delegates from each member world or faction who convene to make legislative decisions for the whole of the Republic. Meetings are held in the capital of the Republic, Lothal City. Each session is a balancing act between pragmatic cooperation and fierce independence. As the saying goes, “No matter the planet, species, or intent—a politician is always a politician.”
Despite its rough edges, the Senate represents a rare beacon of hope in the Wilds—an experiment in freedom, self-governance, and cooperation in a realm where survival usually trumps ideals. It is a place where ex-Imperial governors debate alongside alien tribal chieftains and corporate representatives, all trying to carve out a better future in a place long abandoned by other galactic powers. The Wild Space Republic Senate may be fragile, but its very existence is a defiant stand against chaos.

Lothal City, the administrative capital of the Wild Space Republic, sits nestled on the grassy plains of the planet Lothal, where sprawling golden fields meet sleek, modernist architecture. The city has grown rapidly in recent decades, evolving from a modest colonial settlement into a bustling metropolis with wide avenues, tiered government complexes, and a distinctive skyline punctuated by the Republic Spire—the heart of regional governance. Despite its expansion, the city maintains an open, breathable layout, intentionally designed to contrast with the claustrophobic megacities of the Core Worlds.
The Republic Spire itself is a marvel of post-Imperial design: a crystalline tower embedded with solar arrays, surrounded by gardens and plazas symbolizing transparency and unity. Inside, the Senate Chamber of the Wild Space Republic conducts its sessions, attended by representatives from frontier systems who range from trade unions and colonies to native dignitaries and planetary governors. The architecture emphasizes natural light and open forums, reflecting the Republic's ideals of inclusion and cooperation across its far-flung territories.
Lothal City thrives on a delicate balance of legacy and innovation. Remnants of the old Imperial occupation—converted AT-AT hangars, refitted stormtrooper barracks—have been repurposed into museums, research centers, and civic spaces. The city's spaceport, one of the busiest in Wild Space, connects it to dozens of remote colonies, facilitating trade, aid, and diplomacy. Speeder traffic is constant, but a state-of-the-art maglev rail system helps keep the city's pulse steady and its population connected.
Culturally, Lothal City is a vibrant melting pot of frontier life and emergent cosmopolitanism. Its markets are filled with goods from unexplored systems, while its academies train the next generation of Republic officers and explorers. Murals of starships and starlight adorn the alleyways, and holodramas celebrating resistance heroes are shown nightly in open-air amphitheaters. Despite the ever-present challenges of governing a region as unpredictable as Wild Space, Lothal City remains a beacon of hope, resilience, and the Republic's belief in the future.

Senators are political officials appointed by their constituents to represent them and their interests in the Republic Senate. Each member world has their own representative that participates in the process of governance on Lothal during Senate hearings. Other groups in Wild Space are also granted representation. Large space stations and migrant fleets may elect their marshals or admirals, respectively, to represent their interests. Trade leagues also often represent themselves with an elected representative.
Senators are not elected in a uniform fashion; instead, each member system selects its representative according to its own customs—ranging from democratic elections to hereditary appointments or merit-based selection. This patchwork of traditions leads to a uniquely dynamic governing body, where negotiation and compromise are crucial.
Due to the unpredictable nature of Wild Space, Senate sessions are often urgent, focused, and pragmatic. Topics like resource-sharing, trade security, and joint defense initiatives dominate the agenda. While the Senate lacks the sweeping power of centralized regimes, it excels in flexibility and responsiveness, traits that have allowed the Republic to thrive in a harsh and volatile region of the galaxy.
Despite its strengths, the Senate faces constant challenges—internal divisions, conflicting interests, and the ever-present threat of sabotage or corruption. Still, the Wild Space Republic Senate endures as a symbol of frontier cooperation, a fragile yet persistent experiment in decentralized democracy on the galactic edge. It represents not only governance but also the shared dream of freedom and self-determination among the stars.

Though not an officially sanctioned practice, representatives in the Republic Senate often align themselves with political parties that embody the values and principles of themselves and, typically, their constituents. These political blocs sometimes nominate chairpersons to represent them during internal meetings.
There are four main parties in the Republic Senate, each with their own unique identities and agendas. These are:
- The Populists, who represent workers and the common people. They focus on direct democracy, wealth distribution, and planetary rights.
- The Concordists, who represent the Core Worlds, bureaucrats, and citizens who are wary of extremism. They focus on balancing tradition and progress.
- The Corporatists, who represent wealthy industrialists, tech-sectors, and urban centers. They focus on deregulation, free trade, and favoring the private sector.
- The Independents, wildcards who represent varied bases ranging from entire sectors to specific groups and niche demographics. They focus on single-issue agendas and planetary issues, often resulting in unpredictable swing votes.
Smaller, less popular parties exist alongside the main four blocs, though their policies are either too niche, too extreme, or both, to gain a majority over the rest. Most notable of the fringe groups are the Imperialists, who seek to return Lothal and its environs to an Imperial protector as it was just a few short years before the rise of the Republic.

The Senate Commandos are an elite force charged with protecting the Republic's most vital institutions and leaders. Operating under the direct authority of the Senate, they are highly trained in tactical combat, investigation, and diplomacy. Unlike regular military forces, they often work behind the scenes, ensuring the stability and security of the Republic's political core, especially in the unpredictable and often lawless regions of Wild Space.
Clad in distinctive blue armor with silver accents, the Commandos are easily recognizable symbols of Republic authority. Their gear is specialized for adaptability, allowing them to operate across a wide range of environments—from urban megacities to harsh alien frontiers. Advanced visors provide real-time data feeds, and their weapons are customized for both non-lethal and lethal engagements. Though few in number, their presence is a strong deterrent against corruption and insurrection.
Senate Commandos are carefully selected from across the Republic's member systems, chosen for their loyalty, skill, and political neutrality. Their training emphasizes not just combat readiness, but also critical thinking and negotiation, enabling them to de-escalate conflicts without resorting to force. This blend of diplomacy and strength is crucial in Wild Space, where cultural tensions and power struggles are common.
In times of crisis, the Commandos serve as enforcers of emergency decrees and guardians of the Senate's will. They also conduct covert operations when traditional military action is too blunt or politically risky. Though they answer to the Senate as a whole, whispers persist that some factions within the Republic attempt to use them as pawns in larger political games—making the Commandos not just warriors, but players in the ever-shifting landscape of Wild Space politics.
