Respecting Younger Members: A Perspective

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. If that chain is a reflection of maturity and intelligence, then I might set this communities pivoting equilibrium at the age of our youngest members. That being 14 year olds. There are exceptions, but historically I feel very confident that age is a defining factor of growth and maturity. So while everyone might be inferring that Staff is talking only to socially responsible adults when they makes loud statements and culture changing announcements? It might be better off to assume that they are speaking towards a younger demographic.

I know many of us are socially responsible adults with jobs, families, and property. I know that many of us as adults can be offended by the idea of being told to grow up, be more respectful, and to behave ourselves better. But now is the time to consider that when Staff announcements are made to the whole community, they are made with the whole of the community in mind. Kids, rascals, deviants, and that fool Jay Scott Clark included. :D

I would challenge all of the adults out there to entertain this perspective the next time you choose to be offended for a Staff Announcement. There is great valor is being asked to sacrifice your personal privileges for the sake of the greater good. Even if that means setting a greater example for a younger audience and not using the word 'newbie' on one website, on one internet, for as long as Tef is paying the bills.

Thanks for being awesome! :D

Since Tef closed the other thread, this can be the place to discuss the marvels of the modern vocabulary. Tell us how you feel and remember to be respectful. Enjoy. :D

Hell, I'm 16. As long as you act like mature, responsible, and civil people, you'll get the same treatment from everyone else.

Hello Leviathan.

Lol. If you want to tear apart my logic, then by all means go ahead. I'm not very bright about these things. However, being a Call of Duty gamer, I totally get the: Don't call people noobs, thing. As a part of gamer culture it really is a degrading and completely derogatory use of phrases. It's intended to be competitive, douche'y, grieving, and troll-tastical.

This is why we can't have nice things. :p

Haha. Oh yeah. I have to be careful to phrase all my statements as simply a 'perspective'. Otherwise people think I'm trying to be universally altruistic. :p

I'm offended that you think I'm not part of the younger audience and that you thought I was offended for expressing a point of view. :p
I'm offended that you were offended that I thought I was offended by being offended at the thought of others being offended, by the ponies. It's offensive. And I won't stand for it! *postures dominantly*

( ...Wait. What are we talking about now?) :D :p

Yes. Good job class. Today's moral of the story is:

  • 1. You have an age. It is a number.
  • 2. Redheads. (This is not a number.)

Okay. Good job everybody. Class dismissed. :D :p
