Private Retrieval: Connel Vanagor

Yes, they did.

The Sith were trying to find the Hall of Predation.

Yyarokl turned to Efret and said something to the effect of, "We trust you. Speak our ancestor's name. Kifaayatu. Remember."

Her response in their language roughly translated to, "I'll sign it until my hands bleed."

"Go. Wind at your back. Use your Jeedai magic."

"Fight on well." She seized forward to give him a brief hug, then stepped back and turned to Connel. Switching her interpretation unit back to Basic, she told him, "Do that. I'll take the rucksack. We can't stay here." That would put both the village and its monument in jeopardy. The Sithspawn had to be intercepted before they had the chance to find either. "Should I head back to the ship then pick you up?" That would leave him alone in the wilderness for some time. If she pushed both herself and her command of the Force, she might be able to shave a day off their initial travel time.

Connel didn’t even give her the chance to complete her call. He had his mask half-on before she completed “Do…” and was checking his gear. As she was making her “goodbye”s Connel was coming up with a plan. First things first was to find and take out the Sithspawn. He did not have to worry about watching over another, so that would not be a problem, nothing against the Council Member at all, but he would not be comfortable with her to worry about for multiple reasons.

When she was ready and asked him about picking him up, Connel nodded.

Pulling the datapad out of his back pocket and looking over the map, he found a waterfront that was west of them and that gave him a strong idea. Do not worry about me until you get to the ship, I will be focused on taking the Sithspawn out and then making my way West.

Pulling his comm-link and connecting it to his belt, and then offering her the “receiver”, which was a headset, Connel nodded. I will turn this on in sixteen hours. It is encrypted so if they find me, they deserve to. If you don’t see it, look for me at this lake.

Efret swung one of the rucksack's straps over a shoulder, then the other, and wriggled a bit, shifting her new weight until it was comfortable. She nodded and promised, "I'll get to the ship as soon as I can." She then took the headset, nodding along again as she watched him explain his plan. "Understood. May the Force by with you." She stepped forward in a move to also give him a very brief hug.

With that, she turned, and disappeared among the village's huts to find an entrance point into the forest. The last thing she wanted to do was take the same path back to the ship as they had taken here.

Just less than sixteen hours into her trek, she braced herself with an extended arm on a tree. She was making even better time towards the ship than she thought had been possible. Perhaps seeing the various signs of Sithspawn in the forest had unlocked another level of adrenaline. At least she hadn't seen any of the creatures themselves yet; just droppings, tracks, and tamped down patches of vegetation steeped in Darkness. Hopefully, that was a good sign.

She took a drink from the canteen that she had refilled at a stream a few miles back. Wiping sweat off—and dustings of mud onto—her brow, she replaced the canteen cap, glanced down to Connel's headset which she wore around her neck, and then returned to the unmarked trail she was blazing.

Farr was not the only one to disappear, Connel was gone in a flash but where she was moving, he was hunting.

The Shadow was faster, stronger, and let’s face it, downright meaner. So he looked for the beasts. They were damned from birth or mutation, and while he was an animal lover, Connel had no hesitation in hunting any of them down and taking them out. The problem with this was that with every move he made on them, his position was made. The only way around this was to continue moving towards the lake like he had said.

The beasts seemed to be interconnected, almost like a hive mind, as more and more were now chasing him better him than her, or worse the locals that they were just working with. That was unacceptable. He knew that staying on the move was his best chance to avoid detection. The lake was his destination, a place where he could regroup and plan his next move. The beasts were relentless, but Connel was determined to outsmart them.

More and more technobeasts and Sithspawn were moving on him, but he had the advantage of seeing them coming. He didn’t let himself stop, though he had a canteen full of water, the reason was two mutated Noghri as well as a small pack (3) of mutated Nexu were chasing him. Come on… just a little further.

He had pulled out both of his sabers and when he reached the rock he had in his sights, Connel jumped on it and then bounded backwards back at his would-be attackers. He was as ferocious as they were and cut each of them down brutally. It was disturbing to think about, let alone watch, but Vanagor had no choice. He also did not get out of this unscathed.

A Nexu tore into his neck. It was bleeding profusely, but he was able to apply pressure and control the flow of plasma.

The chrono said it had been just over 16 hours.

Activating his comm-link, he staggered and pushed himself further towards the lake.
