Standard mining starship features such as but not limited to:
- Repulsorlift Projectors
- Tractor Beams
- Plasma Drills
- Mining lasers
- Carbon-Freezing Chambers
- Onboard Smelting Facility
- Raw Material Detection System
- Expanded Storage Compartments
- Micro-robotic swarm: Has internal robotic systems to automate many of the ship systems. Among them is a swarm of micro-robots that are autonomous and equipped with miniature mining lasers and tractor-repulsor projectors. This swarm can be pointed towards large asteroids to systematically chip away at it, reducing the size while breaking away valuable chunks of ore and other resources. Then with the tractor-repulsor beams the swarm can assist with bringing the loose mineral debris back to the hangar bay. Mercy, being the ingenious spirit that she is, realized that this swarm could also be weaponized in an emergency. While this cannot be done indefinitely, the swarm could theoretically be used to either block incoming fire or to try and incapacitate an opponent and take them out by surprise. This will not be effective against anything larger than a frigate and even against a frigate it would be tricky to take advantage of.
- Small internal shipyard: The hangar bays have enough space to repair and modify small ships, think starfighters, snubfighters, freighters and such.
- Extremely Durable: With its very high defensive ratings, this corvette is well-shielded and armored, making it highly resilient to environmental hazards (like asteroid impacts) and hostile attacks. It can operate in extreme environments (e.g., volcanic zones or icy asteroid fields) without significant risk to its systems.
- Advanced Mining Capabilities: Equipped with mining lasers, plasma drills, tractor beams, and repulsorlift projectors, the ship is highly efficient at resource extraction and processing. The inclusion of a micro-robotic swarm enhances its ability to mine large asteroids systematically.
- Self-Sufficient Operations: The small internal shipyard allows for repairs and modifications to smaller ships (e.g., starfighters or freighters), ensuring extended operational capabilities without external support.
- Automation Reduces Crew Requirements: The inclusion of micro-robotic systems significantly reduces the need for a large crew, with a minimum crew of only 6 and an optimal crew of 30.
- High Speed for Its Size: Despite its industrial focus, the ship has a "High" speed rating, allowing it to escape threats or reposition quickly in hazardous environments.
- Poor Maneuverability: With a "Very Low" maneuverability rating, the ship struggles with tight turns and evasive maneuvers, making it vulnerable in close combat or dense asteroid fields.
- Limited Offensive Capabilities: While durable, the ship's armament is primarily defensive or mining-focused (e.g., mining lasers), leaving it at a disadvantage against heavily armed attackers like pirate vessels or military ships.
- Reliance on Automation: The heavy use of micro-robotics means that malfunctions or EMP/Ion attacks could severely disrupt operations. A failure in its robotic systems would cripple its mining efficiency.
- Resource-Intensive Maintenance: The advanced systems (e.g., micro-robotic swarm and internal shipyard) require specialized parts and expertise for repairs, increasing operational costs.
- Limited Combat Role: As a mining vessel first and foremost, its design prioritizes industrial functions over military applications, making it unsuitable for prolonged battles or offensive missions.
- Crew Vulnerability in Emergencies: With escape pods designed for 12 individuals each but limited redundancy in life support systems, emergencies could endanger larger crews or passengers if evacuation becomes necessary.
The mining/refinement corvette was a unique prototype originally designed by the Verpine Roche Hive Mechanical Apparatus Design and Construction Activity for Those Who Need the Hive's Machines - commonly referred to as Roche. This ship represents the pinnacle of Verpine engineering, showcasing their advances of micro-robotic systems and advanced starship design. It was intended to be the blueprint for a fleet of mining vessels marketed to major galactic powers, such as the Galactic Alliance and Outer Rim Coalition before its collapse. Utilizing some of her sources in the criminal underworld Mercy discovered the existence of the ship however. Initially planning to steal the ship and sell it to the highest bidder to fund her attempts at gaining a foothold in the Terminus underworld, she grew increasingly enamored with the ship once it was hers. Eventually she decided to keep it for herself instead and make it one of her personal transports and mobile bases.
The Verpine created this corvette as a demonstration of their technological prowess, specifically focusing on micro-robotic automation to revolutionize asteroid mining. Its advanced systems include autonomous robotic swarms equipped with miniature mining lasers and tractor-repulsor beams, capable of systematically dismantling asteroids and transporting valuable minerals back to the ship's hangar bay. The ship also features a small internal shipyard for repairing and modifying smaller vessels, such as starfighters or freighters, further emphasizing its self-sufficient design.
After its theft by Mercy, the corvette became an integral part of her operations in the Terminus underworld. She uses its carbon-freezing chambers to transport prisoners or test subjects and relies on its automated systems to minimize crew requirements while maximizing efficiency. The ship's robust defenses and high cargo capacity make it ideal for both industrial tasks and criminal activities.
