"We are not just keepers of land or lineage. We are the living will of our ancestors, and their oath to Naboo runs in our veins." — Lord Alistair, House Abrantes

The Princely Families of Naboo
The Royal Houses of Naboo are the noble families from which the Republic's Monarchs are elected. These aristocratic lineages, some of which are ancient and stretch as far back as to the Time of Great Suffering, form the cultural and political backbone of both Naboo and the Republic.

Right to Rule

First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women — Joran Del-Finn, House Del-Finn
Under the Royal Accords, only the princely families from the Royal Houses of Naboo may be considered for royal office. Following strict ancestral and ceremonial requirements, any would-be rulers of the Republic must:
  • Hold proof that they belong to a recognized Royal House, whether that is through birth, or marriage.
  • May not be affiliated with any dark side orders, cults, or authoritarian regimes.
  • Must undergo the Namechange Rite — the ceremonial act of shedding your personal identity, loyalties, and ambitions, in favor of service to the people.
  • Honor the prohibition of Jedi in matters of state. Regardless of status within the Royal Houses, any Jedi of noble blood that wishes to run for royal office, must formally renounce their Jedi status and rank prior to entering the race.

The Role of Nobility in Nabooian Society

"Royal blood may run through my veins along with a claim to all things that come with it; That does not entitle me to the people that put their faith in me however. This only entitles me to exemplify their values through my actions in their stead." Lossa Aureus, House Aureus

The Royal Houses of Naboo are not merely ancient relics of tradition, but living, breathing institutions that are deeply entrenched in the political and cultural framework of Nabooian society with each House controlling its own piece of it — through historical land rights, interstellar trade, military stewardship, cultural and religious custodianship, or multiple combinations of roles that have been honed through strategic inter-House alliances and calculated marriages.

To that end, the Heirs of these Houses are groomed and carefully sculpted from their earliest years by curated tutors in courtly politics, diplomatic rhetoric, philosophy, and history. To be born into a Royal House is to inherit more than a name; it's to be raised with the weight of generational legacy, expectation, and the ever-present possibility that they may one day rule — no longer just Naboo, but worlds beyond as well.

The Role of Nobility in the Republic's Expansion

"We don't inherit Naboo - we audition for her favor every generation. And I intend to leave a performance they'll never forget." — Aurelian Veruna, House Veruna

As new worlds join the Republic, some of which lacking any sort of democratic framework, members from the Royal Houses are dispatched to serve as transitional advisors, cultural ambassadors, or interim senators, working closely with planetary leadership to help guide them through this period of transition and help maintain stability. In time, these advisory roles have evolved into highly coveted positions of influence. Noble Houses may formally sponsor developing worlds—offering wealth, guidance, or military protection—in exchange for cultural alliance, prestige, or soft power. Though not permitted to rule these worlds outright, many nobles form long-standing patronage networks, vying for the hearts and minds of key systems across the Republic. These rivalries, while diplomatic on the surface, can grow heated beneath layers of ceremony and grace.
