The system allows for each individual weapon to choose its targets based on the computer’s calculations and predictions, even beyond the range of the weapons themselves, which when connected to its assigned ship’s targeting systems can allow weapons with better range to continue attacking fleeing or distance craft.[/SIZE]

  • [SIZE=9pt]Limited Range: As a point defense weapon, the RPD Mk.1 isn’t designed for long-range combat, keeping its primary capabilities limited to the range of most common starfighters. This means that ships with longer-range weapons can fire outside of its range without being shot back at.[/SIZE]

  • [SIZE=9pt]Fragile: Designed to be small and offer maximum range of motion, the RPD Mk.1 lacks armor plating, leaving it highly vulnerable to fighters that are able to slip within its range. Only a handful of hits from standard laser cannons would be enough to take out a single gun.[/SIZE]

  • [SIZE=9pt]EMP: EMP bursts are highly effective against the RPD Mk.1, as it lacks individual hardening from electronic warfare and can be knocked out in this way, leaving the weapon itself or the ship they arm open to attack.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=9pt]Designed to fill a purely defensive role for capital ships and even ground emplacements, the RPD Mk.1 is a weapon system made to provide an extreme volume of fire with exceptional tracking abilities. To cut down on gunner error, however, the weapons were designed with automation as their primary use, operating via ship computers rather than gunners to track and eliminate threats within their range. While this makes them vulnerable to EMP, as such a burst would cut off their ability to track and fire, it also cuts down on personnel while allowing for pinpoint accuracy.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=9pt]Though the RPD Mk.1 isn’t much on its own, multiple emplacements used tracking the same target can be lethal, capable of shredding starfighters in seconds and all but eliminating the threat of missile attacks. Using projectiles such as slugs makes it possible to slip right through starfighter shields or, if their particle shields are active, pepper it with shots to overload and destroy the shield before the craft itself.
