SETTING INFO
Rift Name: Rupture's Fall
Rift Alignment: Dark
Location: The Rupture (Primary Fault), Skism
Destination: Vossenland
Direction: Two-Way
Size: Large
Accessibility:
- The Primary Fault of the Rupture is an extremely hot and geologically active region. The closer one gets to the fault itself, the hotter and deadlier the environment becomes. Only the most dedicated or powerful individuals can reach the Fall itself without dying of the heat.
Description:
- The Rupture is a massive fault that reaches all the way down to the upper mantle, exposing the molten materials below. It provides Skism with most of its heat and its inhabitants most of its geothermal power (formerly). Yet unbeknownst to the inhabitants, the depths of The Rupture hold something much darker and more powerful than the molten material of the Upper Mantle. Invisible to the eye is a Gateway to the Netherworld, accessible only by falling into the Fault itself.
RIFT EFFECTS
Death - Once a living being has taken the Fall, they descend the 70km or so to the molten material below. Of course the surrounding Fault is not uniform and so they are bound to take a few hits from the surrounding rocks and walls. Inevitably, they end their fall with a plunge into the deepest magma. What follows is quite simple. They will spend the next minute burning alive as the Magma consumes them.
But they never died. Nor had they ever left the ledge from which they fell. What took the fall was their purest form. Their force-signature, while their physical vessels remain locked in invisible purgatory in the same position.
Once 'The Fallen' have been consumed by the Magma, the pitch black of their melted eyes falls away to reveal Vossenland. Now, they have arrived.
The Rift also influences perceptions of observers. If there is another watching a Fallen, they will see them in their final moment before their fall, locked in a tilt towards the edge. If the Fallen decided on theatrics and took a leap, an observer will see them frozen above the Fall. If one were to look into the eyes of a Fallen, they would be pits of black. If a Fallen returns from Vossenland, their bodies blink back the edge. However, this transition is not seen by the observer. The time between their fall and the body's return to its original position is cut from the observer's mind, being remembered like a faint dream. If the Fallen does not return from Vossenland, their bodies will remain in permanent stasis in their falling moment.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Volcanoes - The Rupture is very geologically active. There are hundreds of Lava Fountains and full-size Volcanoes in the surrounding area
The Fall - Simply the edge overlooking the 70km pit below. Once a being has committed to the fall, their bodies lock in stasis in the moment their center of gravity is over the edge.
HISTORICAL INFO
The origins of The Rupture have, for as long as any S'kiss can remember, been attributed to nothing more than devastating geological activity. But there are records. Faint records from the era of the Old Republic that describe a much more sinister and chaotic origin.
Darth Nihilus, the Scourge of the Outer Rim, had an endless hunger. One that forced him to devour every shred of life he came across. It didn't take long before mere men could no longer satisfy him and his appetite grew to that of a Planet. Before he devoured devoured Katarr, he came to Skism. His Planetary appetite was new then and unpracticed. He placed his grip over the life of the planet and began his feast. But he could not complete it. His consumption was disrupted and his attempt failed. But the intense use of the Dark Side remained. It blanketed Skism's surface, coming together in a vast concentration that covered almost half the diameter. This concentration infected the world and tore it apart. This gash in the Crust of Skism formed The Rupture.
But there was Fear and Pain. The lives of all those that Nihilus had devoured at the time powered the flow of the Dark Side and flooded the veins of Skism. When The Rupture formed, their dread, fear and pain coalesced to form a gateway to the Netherworld. To Vossenland. The Land of Fear.
