Ruusan Invasion

Hello everyone!

Just to keep you all informed ...

The admins of SSC decided that the invasion was to close to call, so it has been taken to the RPJs for final results.

As yet I have not heard anything on the outcome. I will let you all know when I do.

Thank you to everyone that participated in the invasion! Lots of great writing and fighting and I do hope you enjoyed it.

However, if anyone has any suggestions on how it went, or if something could have been done better, we would love to hear from you.

Cheers
~Coci

I had fun and saved Kei

but that city was crazy and confusing. If possible for future ones some sort of map or a chart to keep track because everey time a wave was destroyed seemed three more sith legions and guns decloaked all around us.

We can only tell [member="Siobhan Kerrigan"] there are naked ladies in ruins behind enemy soldiers so many times before she catches on.

I would have liked to see Haytham kill Orcus before the deadline, but that's just me :p I felt like two weeks was a little too short, personally. I'm not sure if others felt that way or if an extension was discussed (to my knowledge there can be a one week extension if both sides agree) but I know that's more of a board rule than a faction thing.

Some great writing and fun stories all around! I'm pleased with the outcome either way, as Haytham and I both got to further our story in a more public setting.

We need definition of NPC numbers. Even though the ST FAs were fine with not having that, it rapidly became a nightmare due to magical reserves.

Also, to be honest and frank, a lot of our members and all our allies flaked out early on. I heard lots of people supporting an invasion, but not too many carried through. We were left with the curious situation that most of the fighting was done by 'dark' Jedi or independents.

If we're going to fight again we need better teamwork, better commitment and better planning. ST had their backs to the wall so they resisted strongly. We didn't work as well together.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"] agreed, we worked in some places well but for the short term not the long term. I know some members had net troubles which couldn't be helped but others vanished or never posted.

still I admit I was happy and the new rules were very fun. My duel with Sinistra was an interesting duel

I agree entirely. NPCs (even thought meant to be fluff and noise) seemed to have a major factor in the issues in this invasion and even my handful of mobile artillery units drew a PM for me. *shrugs*

It seemed to me that a attacking faction was not able to bring artillery or the like which is just silly. Fair or not, it would make sense for the SSC to bring everything they could, allies as well.

Anyway...

This is something the board admins might like to consider extending. If invasions are to be story based now, it would be beneficial for the length of invasions to be extended for this to be completed. People do have interference from RL (I did in this case for a few days with RL) and it took me time to get involved in it. So a longer period of time for the official part of the invasion might be needed in the future.

Stopped paying much attention to it part of the way through. It stopped being very interesting to me, became a chore.

I readily admit that I'm biased, have one character and it was on the Silver side, but Olmondo felt like a measuring contest. One side does something, another counters. This is normal, expected, and part of the game. But there were little additions to where ridiculously minor damage was taken where there should be at least moderate damage. Then there were times when different factory standards changed things up (that was touched on fourth-wall-style in one of the later posts). Balance seemed off in places.

This is not a board rule.

Timeframes are selected by the faction admins during negotiations if there is even a timeline for how long the invasion lasts.

I could have sworn there was a time limit on length but it is only on participation. 72 hours to get five writers from either said after the invasion starts.

Either way I am ready for the next one and there could be a whole lot of fun depending on wherever we go.

I find myself agreeing with [member="Audren Sykes"] and [member="Cathbodua"]

I would have liked to have had a more impactful role, aside from having a conversation with Netherworld in character about my character's motivations for aligning himself with the SSC, but I was wholly confused going in as to what the layout of Olomondo was or where people were positioned relative to one another.

Even having a conversation, where Boo was positioned relative to Laguz became a point of contention between me and that writer later on, which is largely why I stopped replying once the deadline dropped.

[member="Boo Chiyo"] | [member="Audren Sykes"]

I'm joining them and echoing that Olomondo was a karkin' mess, and that's just putting it lightly. I had zero idea where anyone was and at one point I was questioning Laguz as well. It became very difficult to understand what was where and who was where. The next time we agree to dance with the ST, I want a flippin' map. Or no dice, sorry if that comes off as harsh but I was thoroughly confused. Then we have so much magical handwaving it's not even funny, and then the math nerds showed up (I love you Math nerds) and I was like wait, we're doing the numbers game, too? I didn't remember that from the original posting like at all. Which you know maybe there were numbers but even that started to get a bit silly after awhile.

the tl;dr summary of my two cents are:

  1. Demand Map of City.
  2. Preferably with a grid, where each square = 5ft or 10ft or something.
  3. Post NPC numbers on the opening post so everyone sees.
  4. These numbers are agreed upon by each side, INCLUDING reserve units.
  5. Next time someone wants to play a measuring game, they can just have a ruler.
Edit: There were no sexy ladies under any ruins [member="Cathbodua"]! We were under there and I checked!

[member="Charlyra Araano"] liar you just said there were no sexy ladies under the ruins... but you were under there.

But I do like your ideas for it and it is all good. Also shout out to [member="Thelma"] for being my healing buddy and running the field hospital.

[member="Boo Chiyo"], I missed you in the city... go and show Orihime your battle wounds and say "Yeah I was there on the ground."

Sorry I didn't jump in on this, but I wanted to see how things played out with the new rule set. Honestly I was a bit disappointed with the sudden materializing of a huge Sith fleet and massive amounts of ground forces. I knew there was going to be a decent amount of resistance, that makes sense, but with how little they seemed to actually take into account what the SSC brought to bear, I have to say I was less than impressed. Had this been their capital world that would have been one thing and I would have been a bit more understanding of such things, but this was on the outer edge of their territory. Seemed too convenient to me.

I was hopeful at first when things started out since the stories looked to be good driving forces for the invasion. Then what has been outlined by others and the things I mentioned above took place. It just rubbed me completely the wrong way as it devolved into the standard measuring contest and magic reserves of troops and other NPC units. Olmondo actually got me to stop following the thread completely , up until things went south I had followed every post. Depending on who all is involved in the next one as our opposition I may give it a go. I don't want to make a promise that i don't end up keeping, but time will tell.

Either way I will definitely be able to thread more soon here, I have been a bit busy the last bit IRL. So hopefully I can work out some threads with you guys since I do enjoy the IC interactions I have had with other writers here.

A short interjection, if I may. Ruusan is actually the Triumvirate's IC capital and that's where the ST became a major faction. Tef simply made - I can't even remember the world's name - that other planet the capital, because we initially forgot to add a 'Major Faction Add'-form.

So that explains why it was so heavily fortified.

That being said, I will take the feedback back to the ST and we will chat about it, see what we can do better for plausible future engagements!

MAJOR FACTION ADD
Faction That Is Added: The Sith Triumvirate
Faction Owner: Darth Adekos
Major Faction Check-In Thread: (Check-In Thread URL)
Approval Authority: Tefka
Starting Planets: Ruusan, Drogheda, Pesmenben, Farquar, Nixor, Nanth'ri, Daalang, Lannik
Capital Planet: Nanth'ri

That is what was posted in the map update thread.

No request to change the capital was made. Nor was this 'fact' made clear to us at any stage before, during or after the invasion, until now.

Whatever the intent or desire, the fact is that we were not told, officially Ruusan is not the capital, and the ST never claimed the substantial advantages inherent in a capital attack.

Thus, I am a little confused as to why this is being brought up now...and in this faction no less.

Because one of the SSC members was confused about the situation and I figured it would be beneficial to show both sides of the coin?

Yes, that form was filled in at the request of Tef after the initial map was already made with Nanth'ri as the capital of the ST hex. Ruusan has always been ICly roleplayed as the stronghold of the ST, it was even the world where the initial rebellion was started.

Anyway, I just figured I'd throw in the ST's perspective, but if that isn't welcome here I will show myself out.

[member="Cole Katarn"]
This perspective would have much more helpful when you were in the negotiation PM and failed to mention any of this.

It is all rather academic now since the invasion is over.

It does highlight the fact that greater communication is essential for both sides in all future encounters.
