The RXW-AC1 assault cannon is a hark back to the heavy weapons of older wars. A combined repeating blaster cannon and grenade launcher, this weapon is designed to take on large concentrations of enemy forces using both blaster bolts and grenades. This gives it utility, even if its weight is almost prohibitive; it has a repulsor installed in order to keep the weapon stable while being fired. In no way is this a super-accurate weapon, relying more on its rate of fire in order to handle itself. It also generates considerable amounts of heat and cannot be fired continuously for extended periods of time, usually needing a second or two to cool down between bursts. Finally, its power packs are very heavy, with only one or two spares ever being carried into battle, if that. Carrying it and the requisite ammunition requires its wielder to be in peak physical condition. Only a tiny handful of these exist, first to be tested by Captain Zane Watts as an experimental prototype, before they're rolled out to the most elite of commando teams. The cost is extremely high, but the sheer utility makes it a very valuable weapon.
This weapon has three barrels - an upper and lower blaster barrel and a central grenade barrel. Mounted on the weapon's right side is a HUD-linked weapon guide to indicate the point at which the weapon is aimed, whereas the back of the weapon just in front of the rear handgrip is the blaster power cell. Grenade racks are loaded in on the left side of the weapon.
The assault cannon has two modes of fire; repeating blaster and grenade-launching mode. The repeating blaster mode takes the upper and lower barrels and can saturate an area with fire, making it excellent for suppression. The grenade barrel is the central barrel and can fire a full volley of six standard high-explosive grenades in three seconds within a five foot radius of the intended aim point. Needless to say this weapon does lack pinpoint accuracy, but the sheer devastation that this weapon can unload makes up for this.
