Shield Penetration: Due to the unique means in which this, and other disruptors work, in which they destroy objects at the molecular level; it is capable of bypassing most personal energy shields.
Non-Detonation: In some instances these devices, even though active and armed, may not detonate as was intended. At this point the weapon is even more dangerous, as it is possible that it could potential detonate while an individual is attempting to remove or otherwise secure the device.
The Sabnach series Disruptor Grenade is a weapon intended to clear out rooms of entrenched enemies or to remove obstacles that would otherwise impede the movement of troops through an area. It is designed so that the explosive device is resting at the top of a long shaft. This shaft allows the individual throwing this weapon to fling it in a high arch, as well as providing additional leverage when the weapon is throw.
Activating the device requires the individual to twist the explosive cap - which contains the primary power cell - to arm the weapon. The length of the shaft is filled with an internal tibanna gas reserve which is utilized in the resulting explosion to create the devastating effect that is often seen when a Disruptor Rifle is fired at a target.
These weapons though can pose just as much a danger to those carrying them as those that face them. A powerful shot penetrating the explosive head of the grenade could potentially set off the grenade prematurely. In this instance it would be the individual and those within a 5 meter blast radius being disintegrated.
