As the students each looked for the meaning of the candle. Some found purpose in it, direction, others questions, others a hindrance. There was a subtle grin on the Jedi Master’s grizzled face, much as he tried to hide it, imposing nothing of his own meaning on their lesson. Beginning to walk around and light the candle for each of them that needed it, thankfully the winds were stopped by the rocky shelter they were behind so the flame was safe.
For now.
“Tapas is drawing and retaining,” Amadis said as he went to answer some of the questions, making sure they all had an external candle lit. Retaining was easier than drawing but both were needed in balance, all connected from within.
Valrel Kos came to the front placing her hands together gently at her waist, and smiling.
“You’ve all used the force, you may have moved things, healed people, you might have fought with your lightsaber, done great deeds or read and studied lots of other people’s words and actions.” She smiled.
“But padawans if you choose a Jedi can do much with very little.”
Kei felt the chill, even with the layers he had on. The cold air would only get colder as the day progressed, thankfully now it was bearable for them to start and master the technique before it became more difficult. Taking off one of the scarves and layers he had wrapped himself in to better feel the chill and practice himself, they were ready.
Coming beside Valrel, Amadis breathed in and centered himself, that sense of peace that he often found was there and comfortable,
“when you connect, to feel the force, today look inside of you. Not outside to start.” Valrel closed her eyes, but Kei left his open to find center, “
the heat inside your own bodies, put your attention on your arms, legs, back, on your heartbeat. Understand your own body, what's it capable of, and listen to it.”
He wanted to get them there first, muscle control and memory, understanding of what they were capable of before he taught drawing on the force to heat themselves. Some might have not even heard their heartbeat before, others might find a pain in their muscle or tension. Less, and controlled effort was always the way to balance and mastery, the basics first, always.
The candles in their hand might flicker as stray gusts of wind threatened to snuff them out, maybe for one or two it did. Light wisps of sand might kick up and make them cough, get in their eyes, or on their skin, irritations or nips of cold and itchy sand.
Amadis watched and waited to see what happened, there were no judgments from either Master facing them at any reaction. Impatience, distraction, lack of control, lack of success all were expected. Questions were welcome. He nodded to Valrel, and the wind would pick up ever so slightly around their feet.
