- Variable Fire: The SD-P1 features three firing modes which can be easily switched between based on the situation at hand. The lowest power mode is a PEP laser which allows for nonlethal shots and a silent weapon, the standard power mode allows the blaster to fire rapidly with enough firepower to damage most unarmored targets, and the highest power mode allows for single shots that are roughly equal to those of a common blaster rifle.
- Sidearm Firepower: While many other blaster pistols can output damage similar to blaster rifles or carbines, the SD-P1 notably only has one power setting comparable to larger blaster weapons. The highest power setting has a reduced rate of fire as well, meaning that the SD-P1 isn't at all suitable as a primary weapon but rather as a secondary. Its two other settings and their versatility is meant to make up for this lacking firepower.
With the armaments designed by Sanguine Defense Works already respectable and varied enough for a wide range of combat applications, the initial blaster pistol designs seemed almost redundant. There was no need, in the minds of the engineers behind the weapons projects, to make a heavy blaster pistol when their standard weaponry was already formidable enough but a more standard powered blaster pistol was lacking in utility when compared to the rest of SDW's arsenal.
The SD-P1 would be focused on filling what gaps were left in their primary counterparts, featuring three different firing modes in order to accomplish this. The standard mode, while only useful against lightly or unarmored targets, allows for a quick rate of fire to account for weapons such as the heavier blaster rifles that lack such an option. The Pulsed Energy Projectile laser encompasses the lowest power setting and enables the wielder to have a silent and nonlethal option for infiltration or security duties. The highest power setting doesn't feature anything aside from sheer firepower but when in need of a deterrent or a single shot in a dire situation it works just fine. As all soldiers know, swapping to your secondary is faster than reloading.
