Frontier Tenacity
NPC Storyteller
Deep within the slums of the forgotten world of Bursoll II, something festers. Away from the prying eyes of the galaxy, something alien, malevolent and lethal grows, slowly but surely, feeding upon the echoes of the countless victims of the Ssi-Ruuvi invasion into the Unknown Regions, gorging itself on all the pain, misery and destruction left behind on the planet's surface. Slowly at first, it awakens and reaches out, seeking warmblooded hosts, consuming their minds, feeding upon their life force and adding their knowledge to its own.
Too late did the local authorities notice that what was once a harmless single-celled organism has mutated into something else, something far more dangerous, twisted and corrupted by the echoes in the Force cast by those who died on the planet during those last, bloody days of the First Order. They tried their best. They really did. But with their resources stretched thin by the ongoing reconstruction efforts and without a clear understanding of what it was they were dealing with, their attempts to halt the planet's impending demise, were proven fruitless.
For what Bursoll II was facing, was no mere plague, but a sentient organism, a hive mind of sorts, one bent on spreading out, consuming all life and assimilate every being in the galaxy into itself. Armed with the knowledge of its victims and with a cold, merciless intellect, this Melding Plague, as it became known, responded to the local monarchy's attempts to cure it with swift, brutal efficiency, eventually infecting the entirety of the planet's administration, cutting off the head of the snake, then shutting down all transmissions from the planet in order to prevent the rest of the galaxy from learning the truth of what was happening.
Without a functioning government to coordinate a resistance effort, the planet quickly fell into anarchy and the plague spread and spread and spread...
Until a band of plucky, or perhaps merely desperate, survivors ventured into the planet's capital, fighting their way through hordes of infected in order to reach the former headquarters of the planet's military. Against all odds and at great cost to themselves, every member of that fateful expedition laying down their lives, they managed to reach their objective, briefly taking control of the planet's holonet relay and broadcasting a single, desperate cry for help to the rest of the galaxy, a short transmission containing all their knowledge about this deadly plague along with a very brief overview of the situation.
Picked up by several freighters travelling within the nearby Eternal Empire, the transmission made headlines in the local news, alarm spreading to every corner of Imperial society. For this deadly plague was not only sentient and hell-bent on consuming all life, but Force Sensitive as well and a single bite or scratch is enough to infect others, threatening to flood the entire galaxy with an endless swarm of monsters. Both the Imperial government and its greatest enemy, the Eclipse Rebellion, were quick to react, mobilizing all available resources to deal with this existential threat. Hot on their tails, the Black Sun criminal syndicate was quick to get involved as well, brokering a temporary ceasefire between Imperial and rebel forces, an unlikely agreement which all sides nevertheless signed up for. Regardless of political beliefs or lack thereof, they all understood what was at stake. And so, faster than anyone thought possible, task forces were quickly put together and dispatched to Bursoll II. On their success, would rest the fate of the galaxy. For if the Melding Plague was not contained and dealt with, nowhere in the galaxy would be safe.
Objectives:
Somehow, by any means necessary, the Melding Plague must be dealt with and in order to do so, a large laboratory has been set up on the planet by the Imperial forces. Staffed by some of the greatest scientists in the Unknown Regions, all pouring every effort into researching a cure, this facility is crucial for the success of the mission. Heavy security has been deployed in order to insure that the scientists can conduct their work, for once the Plague hive mind realizes what the expeditionary forces are up to, it is sure to assault this base with everything it has at its disposal, from small arms and civilian speeders, to tanks, walkers and starfighters. What's worse, every single infected individual is not only transformed into a mindless drone, but a Force Sensitive one as well, each one capable of unleashing unimaginable destruction. In order to prevent millions of drones infected with trillions of Force-wielding bacteria from leveling the research complex with some supernatural calamity, a security perimeter of Ysalamiri and Voidstones has been established, along with vast numbers of troops, starfighters and military hardware.
Objective 4: BYOO
