Honorable Members of the Jedi Order than Republic Military, in light of the Sith Empire's rapid expansion and the likely conclusion that we are may be combating the Sith Empire I would like to pass a law that mandated one of the duties of the volunteer order of the Jedi Militant be to hold training sessions with members of the Republic Military for the purpose of teaching non-Force Users how to combat Force-using opponents. Before I put this bill through the Senate however I wished to see if members of our Military and the Jedi Militant would believe such an endeavor would be beneficial.

OOC Summary: Basically I want to get a thread going where the Jedi and Military interact with each other and the Jedi teach Military chars the best ways to deal with lightsabers, telekinesis, force lightning, etc. If y'all think this would be a fun idea I'll put a Bill/Law submission in the Senate Forum(which shouldn't have any issues passing) and afterwards I'll set up a Faction thread for Military and Jedi peeps to interact with each other.

I've been itching to have some Jedi/Military interaction so I'm game. It would also be great IC training for those military members involved, face it us NFUs are going to encounter force users eventually.

You've got my interest.

Mandatory Re-education by Self-Righteous Religious Zealots.

Or...

"Volunteer Opportunities" sponsored by the Military to encourage Branch co-operation and Force-Sensitive Awareness.

Hmm. I'd pick option 2, rather than go with a blanket 'Senate Law' that compels and forces all Jedi Militant towards Educational Leadership without qualification. But hey, that's just why I hate politics. The idea was good. The application? ...Not so much. :(

Can we skip the law compelling Jedi, and just go with the friendly 'Branch Sponsored Volunteer Opportunities'. I don't need a Jedi or a Politician telling me how to run my shizo. And if I was a Jedi, I certainly don't need it made law.

Unless the Jedi in question is a padawan than teaching is part of the Jedi's job, and they'd be more than qualified to deal with it. None of the Jedi I've @[member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""][member=""]'d have opposed this, as teaching soldiers to deal with Sith helps them as it makes the more numerous NFU soldiers more competent in dealing with Sith.

Not every soldier is going to think Jedi helping is going to help, just like not every soldier is going to appreciate having to put in PT, shooting practice, or anything else is going to help them because it's a big army and people have varied opinions. On the whole however this will improve the armies efficiency against force-users. If you would prefer not to train yourself for such situations I'd rather have you court-martialed and put in prison than die on a battlefield to a lightsaber, thus why the bill, if passed, would mandate training. This is a democracy of course and you are free to talk to your senator(OOC:IE, make one) and convince him to vote accordingly.

I would think any side you wanted to @[member="Turin Val Kur"]. It would be amusing though if you tried to teach me how to defend myself from Force-Users. A little bit of role reversal.

I like the Jedi as my mother happens to be one. :D

I don't like your Godly tone Senator. I don't like how you walk in here preaching your specific brand of righteousness as law. And no. I don't like how you would compel us to follow after 'your' opinion, of what is best for us. And as a citizen, I believe I have every right to demand you Re-educate yourself, before you go mandating to a freeman what is in his 'best interest'. Indeed. I would exercise my freedom to disagree.

No boy. I don't think you know what the word 'freedom' means.

ooc: Hi. It's Jay. Ahem. Theatrics aside, I highly recommend that every Jedi, (Militant or not), rethink the idea of allowing simple Politican's to dictate what is, and what is not, your 'mandatory' duty and good service; to the Force and the Galaxy as a whole. And if this law passes I would ask you resign, in peaceful protest, from the Jedi Militant until Senator Serifan here understands the 'precedence' of Senatoral Power he is attempting to excise over your personal Agency, your faithful duties, and sacred decision to defend free civilization.

Thank you. :D

I like the idea to get people to RP together, but making this a law is where this turns gray. When the Senate starts pressing into Jedi affairs like this, things get iffy. Actually this could be the start of something that turns the Jedi on their heads, and separates them in a sort. Hell, if we wanted to this could actually lead to a major divide with the Republic and could cause a "Great Republic Civil War" and a "Second Great Jedi Schism". Obviously no one wants to go that route, but in my mind, a law like this kinda plants the seeds for it. Just my cents.

Ben will be against this as he already feels spread thin enough teaching actual Jedi how to fight off Sith. Maybe against it isn't the right word, I just won't be doing any of the training, that sounds better.

I'm personally not against it OOC, but I won't be involved IC.

That's what I thought too... That Senate shouldn't directly command the Jedi what to do.

Think I can't handle myself? @[member="Turin Val Kur"]

I'll have you know my mother is a Jedi Master and has taught me to defend myself. I think a little bit of extra training wouldn't hurt anybody. We should be ready for anything that is thrown our way.

Yeah, I love the idea of more interaction between the Jedi and NFUs but I don't think a law was the way to go. To me it should have been voluntary to both sides.
