Yeah, I love the idea of more interaction between the Jedi and NFUs but I don't think a law was the way to go. To me it should have been voluntary to both sides.
That's what she said!

This law is currently in discussion for amendment, to where it would represent an allocation of funding to support monthly voluntary training to accomplish the same purpose.

After looking into this more, Mak would be against it. The Republic shouldn't be making laws telling the Jedi what they should do.

The Jedi and the Republic should work together, but the Republic shouldn't be controlling the Jedi by telling them what they should do.

Heaven forbid if the people of the Republic don't like the idea of mages doing as they please and being a law unto themselves, instead of being subject to the same laws as every other citizen. It is truly terrible. You are truly an oppressed minority. :p

Besides, the law would only apply to Jedi Militants. No one is forcing anyone to join them. One would expect they'd like to aid their soldier comrades. After all, them being better prepared to deal with hostile force-users might mean less casualties.

I know I wasn't asked but my feeling on it is some what on the fence because (IC) I am for the training of soldiers but not the law like many others. My difference of heart comes from the fact that I feel like a law could be made for Higher ranking officials in the Republic to have to be trained and then go on to train the soldiers that are in their squad/battalion.

My feeling IC - Say I have the opportunity to train the Commander of a battalion of soldiers who were placed in my control before trying to attack a planet ruled by the Sith and I refuse. Fast forward to the ensuing battle and we're on the ground fighting and I am confronted by a Sith which I am able to hold off easily and two more arrive. Well now the twenty or twenty five soldiers are all but defenseless when the two Sith Knight's decide to cut down the republic soldiers. In this circumstance A'donari would know that their blood was on his hands.

So maybe the Law could remain on the Republic Soldiers who are already bound by the laws of the Republic and a agreement could be made between the Jedi and Republic. I think it is forgotten that we would give our lives for the good of the universe and Galactic Republic. All that the Republic would have to do is ask any one of us to spare the time to save hundreds of thousands of lives and we would be happy to do it. Instead we always get backed into corners due to no one giving us a choice or trying to limit our decision making ability.

We are Jedi, Peace keepers and instruments of the light side of the force. Our decisions are selfless as is. Give us a chance to make these decisions and you will not be disappointed.

Indeed... Its one of my politcal party's ideologies: That Jedi needs to make their own decisions. The Senate shouldn't be ordering around the Jedi. Instead, we need laws giving Jedi more freedom.
